Chapter 40: It's My Turn (4/4)
Chapter 40 My Turn (4/4)
He had spent half the day frying spring rolls and eggplant cakes, and the heavy scent of grease and smoke clung thickly to his clothes.
But for a true "banquet," before one could savor the finest delicacies, a proper cleansing was required—not merely of the palate, but of the entire self.
Despite the frantic rush of the day, Aunt Mary had still taken the care to lay out fresh clothes on his bed hours ago.
As he changed, he pulled out the list Aunt Winnie had given him, holding it firmly in his grasp.
"Are you going out, Brother?" asked Lunt, who had long since crawled into bed, exhausted from the day's labors.
"Yes, just out for a stroll."
"I want to come too," Lunt said, sitting up. "Today was dreadfully boring."
"I am going for a walk with Grandfather."
"Oh, I'm too tired then, I'd rather sleep. Keep Grandfather good company, Brother."
Karen stepped out of the bedroom, closed the door behind him, and walked over to Diss's study.
He took a deep breath,
exhaled slowly,
and raised his hand.
Before knocking, he paused for a brief moment,
casting a glance at the names and addresses written on the paper in his other hand,
and murmured softly to himself:
"I trust you've all had your fun.
Now,
it's my turn... to knock on the door."
