Chapter 720: Purification - God's Servant! (2/4)

Chapter 720 Purification God's Servant (2/4)

Karen shook his head "Who knows what the future holds I have no interest in playing matchmaker for young lovers"

As he spoke Karen seemed to recall something and set down his teacup looking equally depressed

Madame Tangli said "His grandfather was actually quite pleased with that girl from the Felscher family I truly wonder if the old man has gone blind"

"The weather is lovely today"

"Heh you slippery rogue your own marriage was settled long ago so you are unwilling to pay a bit more attention to your younger brother"

"My marriage was arranged by Grandfather Richard's marriage should also be arranged by you Grandmother"

"If only my words carried weight this family after all is surnamed Guman and I am but an outsider"

"Very well tomorrow I will call the Guman residence and request that you be brought out to live in the castle Grandmother"

"Heh I actually find living here rather agreeable I have met your fiancée and I like her disposition very much it is exactly like your grandmother's in her youth"

"My grandmother"

"Yes your grandmother"

"I recall asking you about my grandmother once before and you did not tell me"

"Because there was nothing worth saying it is all matters of generations past some old grievances of those years were settled by your grandfather long ago"

"I was merely somewhat curious"

"Curious about what Curious about your grandmother's identity Curious about what kind of woman was fit to match your grandfather In truth there is nothing complex about it in the eyes of outsiders does your fiancée not also seem unworthy of you"

"Grandmother please do not speak that way"

"I speak the truth and besides the soundproofing here is excellent your fiancée cannot hear us so it will not affect your relationship" Madame Tangli stood up "Very well I shall not sit any longer seeing you well sets my mind at ease you must be quite busy lately"

"A little"

"Once you are done with your tasks remember to visit the house very well I must return your grandfather is already busy there once he is finished he can return on his own"

"In such a hurry We could finish afternoon tea together"

"Richard has been home for two days and has already received three beatings when I left the house he was being given his fourth"

"Then you must hurry back"

"Yes I must hurry back otherwise I will miss my chance to strike"

"Are you joking"

Madame Tangli's lips curled into a meaningful smile and looking at Karen she said "Since I cannot strike you this grandson of mine right now I can only strike my other grandson"

Karen knew that his grandmother had seen through his true state at this moment which was why she had said from the very beginning "I will not ask about your affairs"

"Then Grandmother please call me after you arrive home"

"Must you also remind me to be careful on the road"

Karen spread his hands and said "That would be too much of a cold joke"

"Hahaha"

Grandmother walked out the door with a laugh

A moment later

"Hahaha"

Grandmother returned with another laugh and with a thud tossed little Kanna inside

Then she truly departed

Sitting on the floor little Kanna spoke "Sister Puer told me who she was to you otherwise I would not have permitted her to carry me off like that"

Karen smiled "You cannot defeat her"

Little Kanna shook her head "But her bones are old"

"From whom did you learn this way of thinking"

"Woof"

"Oh"

"It told me that as long as I learn to wait until I grow up fewer and fewer people will dare to act unequally before me because time will only make me stronger and stronger"

"Do you not think that its words carry very little persuasion"

Little Kanna showed a look of contemplation and then she nodded "What you say makes a lot of sense"

Philomena pushed a dining cart inside and she asked "The old lady has departed"

"Yes departed" Karen nodded "Philomena when you usually spend time together during lessons is she always like this as well"

Philomena shook her head and said "Before you she has already restrained herself a great deal"

"Then do you blame her"

"I do" Philomena nodded as if it were a matter of course "My grandmother only wished to replace me but from childhood to adulthood she never intentionally beat me for amusement"

"The old lady's method of teaching might be a bit harsh..."

"No" Philomena said very earnestly "At times I can feel her joy when she beats me it is true joy"

"Very well" Karen picked up a cookie and took a bite "But at least it is not a loss"

Devilish training methods yielded devilish progress

"Correct" Philomena was very candid "I learned things and she obtained joy we both obtained what we desired"

"Heh"

Karen could not help but laugh aloud upon hearing this

Little Kanna stood up walked over and reached out to take a pastry

Karen asked "Did you take your medicine today... no did you eat today's meal"

Little Kanna frowned deeply "If I take the medicine I cannot eat any of this"

"Then you should eat a bit of this first the medicine must still be taken" Karen paused then added "It is much more expensive than these pastries"

"Fine"

"You two continue eating I am going out for a moment"

Karen had originally intended to find Eunice by himself but Philomena followed with the dining cart and little Kanna directly sat at the bottom of the cart to follow along

The two of them were indeed performing their duties as bodyguards well at a time when the object of their protection possessed no power

However Karen had not intended to do anything of note he was merely preparing to take an afternoon nap

Eunice lay on her side beside Karen and said "Grandmother came today"

"I know"

"Grandmother gave me a bracelet"

"You may just accept it"

"Should we send a return gift?"

"If the manor's storeroom holds fine herbs for treating internal and external wounds, have someone deliver them to the Guman family as our reply."

Eunice reached out, her fingers gently smoothing Karen's hair, her voice soft and tender.

"You are hurt again."

"Yes."

"Sleep now."

"Mm."

Karen closed his eyes and drifted off.

Eunice looked up, her gaze resting on little Kanna and Philomena standing nearby, and smiled. "Why don't you two take a afternoon nap as well?"

Philomena replied, "He is wounded. I must protect him."

Little Kanna said, "I haven't bathed, so I cannot go to bed."

...

This time, Karen slept for a long while. Having lost his spiritual power, his perception of his surroundings had dulled significantly, shielding him from external disturbances.

Furthermore, the Scythe of War had been dissolved by divine pollution, so it could no longer misbehave while he slept.

Karen intended to reclaim most of what he had lost to that divine taint, but he hesitated regarding the Scythe of War; he could always sense that the weapon seemed to hold a personal grudge against him.

This slumber carried Karen from the afternoon all the way into the next morning.

It could not be helped. After emerging from the underground cavern, he had been forced to receive a relentless stream of visitors, leaving him no time for proper rest. Fortunately, this deep sleep swept away all his lingering exhaustion.

When he opened his eyes, Eunice was still beside him, quietly turning the pages of a book.

Philomena sat out on the windowsill, letting the breeze drift over her.

Little Kanna was curled up at the foot of the bed, her head resting against his leg.

"You are awake?"

Eunice set her book down and looked at Karen.

"Waking up to find my wife right beside me is a wonderful feeling."

Eunice smiled warmly. "Having you here with me brings me great happiness, too."

Karen prepared to get out of bed to bathe. Though his movements were light, little Kanna was a young bone dragon, not a little pig.

She woke up, rubbing her eyes as she sat up, and said,

"I bathed before I got into bed."

Pu'er maintained a strict household; sleeping had to be done in a bed, and a bath was mandatory before getting in.

Evidently, the concept of bathing had left quite an impression on little Kanna's mind.

Karen emerged from the washroom after his bath and changed into a clean divine robe, though for the time being, he still had to put his mask back on.
