Chapter 104: Giant Qinyuan

Chapter 104: The Giant Qinyuan

Two cat‑cars turned around and sped toward the nearby highway exit, then exited near Xu Family Village and drove straight into the water‑filled ditch beside the road.

The lights were switched off, the personnel concealed on the spot, only the drone continued its aerial patrol and tracking.

The colossal monster remained active three kilometers away, constantly sensing the lingering traces of biological activity through the olfactory sacs on its antennae, darting through the forest in relentless hunts.

This was Chen Jian’s first sight of the monster’s predatory behavior, and the shock it gave him far exceeded anything words could convey.

He had once heard that in the mountains a tiger need only roar once to paralyze its prey, leaving it at the beast’s mercy.

Such a claim was obviously exaggerated and dramatized, yet now he witnessed a genuine example.

The monster kept emitting a howling roar; its high‑decibel sound could not be blocked even by dense woods.

Nearby small prey collapsed instantly under the sonic shock, with no chance to resist or flee.

From the drone’s viewpoint he saw tiny heat sources flicker in the forest, and shortly thereafter the monster would glide to them, impaling the prey with its auxiliary limbs and stuffing it into its maw.

Chen Jian’s hair stood on end; he could not imagine what would happen if his squad lacked the drone’s forward reconnaissance and instead blundered straight into the monster.

Although active‑noise‑cancelling earphones could muffle much of the din, once the sound exceeded 180 dB it was no longer merely a question of 'noise'.

Sound ceased to be sound; the energy carried by the pressure wave pushed air aside, forming a blast that struck the body directly.

Intense resonance would make the viscera and muscles twitch and spasm, even rupture and bleed, rendering a person completely immobile.

When I first underwent indoor seismic‑blast training, a single detonation left me no time to react; the violent convulsions in my stomach made me vomit outright.

Back then the blast’s noise was only 170 dB.

This was undoubtedly a formidable adversary.

Chen Jian pulled the PDA from his chest and handed it to Xie Liu, then asked in a low voice:

“You said Qinyuan—does it look like that?”

Xie Liu took the PDA, examined it for a moment, and replied:

“I’ve never seen a Qinyuan, but from the descriptions I’ve heard… it’s very similar.”

“Quite likely, then—it’s probably an abnormally enlarged specimen.”

Chen Jian exhaled softly and continued:

“Besides its size, what other traits does this Qinyuan monster have?”

“Traits.”

Xie Liu frowned, thought for a moment, and answered:

“It’s said that the spines on its tail carry a deadly toxin; contact causes flesh to split and burn, leaving only a skeleton.”

“A corrosive venom—perhaps a special digestive fluid.”

Chen Jian immediately updated the information on the PDA and then asked:

“What about its hearing, smell, and perception?”

“There isn’t much detailed information.”

Xie Liu shook his head and said:

“But legend has it that Qinyuan is extremely fast and capable of short‑range flight, like a flying squirrel.”

“Understood.”

Chen Jian stared at the drone’s feed, then rendered his judgment:

“This thing looks like it can’t fly—altitude insufficient for gliding.”

“Yet its speed is indeed great, with very high instantaneous acceleration.”

“A body of that size maintaining such velocity means its agility is maxed out.”

“What do we do? Is there any good plan? How do we fight it?”

The words had barely fallen when Lei Jie spoke first:

“It’s tough; unless we hit it head‑on, our weapons can’t inflict effective damage.”

“But the problem is, to guarantee a direct hit we need to close to within three hundred meters.”

“We’re still three kilometers out, and the decibel level is already in the eighties—at three hundred meters it’ll be off the charts?”

“Who can withstand that kind of noise? Zeng Yi, can you?”

“Obviously not.”

Zeng Yi whispered:

“We’re more sensitive to sound than you; battlefield explosions and gunfire are mostly torture for us, which is why we rarely use firearms.”

“That’s a problem.”

Chen Jian let out a long breath.

“We need guided weapons. Damn, I wish we’d had Zhou Qin scrounge up some sleeve‑arrows.”

“Such low‑power weapons might not do much damage, and the jungle is too thick for guided munitions to work well.”

Lei Jing furrowed his brow, thought a moment, and said:

“The only thing that could possibly take it down is a 14.5 mm heavy machine gun, but the HMG can’t move freely, its field of fire is limited, and the target keeps moving at high speed—hitting it would be as unlikely as winning the lottery.” “So what we really need isn’t guided weapons, but remotely operated weapons.”

“Can you do it? Aren’t you the one who can repair weapon stations?”

Chen Jian asked at once:

“Not enough time.”

Lei Jing shook his head:

“By the time I get back and build a remote‑weapon station, the yellow flowers will be cold.”

“At present the best plan is to sneak up while it’s resting and then deliver a single, decisive shot.”

“Does it ever sleep—do monsters sleep?”

“Yes.”

Zeng Yi answered firmly, then added:

“But we can’t gamble on it sleeping; what if it doesn’t and storms straight into Huangshi City?”

“Monsters also seek safe places to rest, but we’re out of luck—around here the only truly safe spot seems to be the island on Lake Dazhi.”

“There’s nothing we can do.”

Chen Jian picked up the PDA again and said:

“Its long‑range projection is weak, and close combat means we’ll have to endure its roar.”

“We can’t fight it in the wild; we have to pull back.”

“Split into two groups.”

“Hesuo, Zeng Yi, Lishi, Lei Jing, Xie Liu—you go back first and work out the battle plan.”

"Shen Yue follows me, trailing the monster to test the limits of its combat range."

"If we can get within 500 meters, with all our recoilless guns and rocket launchers, I refuse to believe none of our shots will hit it."

"As long as we can destroy its vocal ability, we can toy with this thing."

"Understood!"

"At the command, the squad immediately split up."

"Chen Jian led the team back onto the cat vehicle, quietly approaching the distant monster."

"Meanwhile, He Shuo and the others rushed toward Huangshi City, every second counting."

"They must make thorough preparations."

"If Chen Jian ultimately confirms they cannot get close, the city's limited long-range projectile weapons will be their last line of defense."

"At the same time, on the distant river surface."

"A powerless small wooden boat lay moored quietly at the riverbank."

"Zhou Qin stood respectfully beside a man, who handed him his binoculars and then spoke:"

"This is the giant Qin Yuan from Jiugong Mountain."

"As I said, the heretics' wicked deeds indeed invite severe retribution; it is simply natural law."

"Now, this Qin Yuan heads toward Huangshi City, and the heretics there will not live much longer."

"Zhou Qin, you should delay for at least another day."

"If we can gain a day, those livestock and poultry won't be wasted in vain, and we won't have to trek all this way."

"As the man's words fell, Zhou Qin nodded at first, but then hesitated and asked:"

"Supervisor, do you truly believe this monster will utterly annihilate those heretics?"

"Of course."

"The man spoke confidently:"

"This monster called Qin Yuan has nearly reached the standard of a second‑grade monster; let alone them, even an entire Holy Guard brigade of the Machine God Sect could not easily dispose of it."

"To destroy it, a price must inevitably be paid."

"And Huangshi City lacks sufficient expendables."

"They will surely all die, which saves us a great deal of trouble."

"Let us hope so."

"Zhou Qin nodded in agreement, yet doubt rose unbidden in his heart."

"It is merely a monster, albeit one approaching second‑grade status."

"But can this monster truly do anything to those so‑called Huaxia Army?"
