Chapter 309: Blind Landing

Chapter 309: Blind Landing

At the very moment Chen Jian received a message from Fuxi, Lei Jie also saw the incoming intelligence.

He understood the gravity of the information more than anyone else; without sparing a second, he leapt from the aircraft that was about to take off and immediately issued new orders.

"Fuxi, locate a landing site near the target's rendezvous point!"

"Ground crew! Offload all ammunition and supplies, clear the cargo bay for me!"

"Jiang Yu, be ready!"

"We may have to head to Haozhou and use the abandoned airfield there for landing."

"The target airfield is complicated, the take‑off and landing conditions are harsh, both approaches are extremely difficult."

"This time we’ll proceed in a two‑plane formation."

"If I fail to land, you’ll take over!"

"Remember, we must bring the cargo back at the fastest possible speed!"

"Is the mission clear?"

"Clear!"

Jiang Yu, who had also jumped from the plane, answered swiftly; then the two of them sprinted toward the gate of Base 011, rode the lift, and arrived in the operations command room.

At that moment, Fuxi had already marked the three Imperial Guard’s positions on the map, and staring at the tiny flickering red dot, Lei Jie asked:

"How shall we establish contact with them? Do they have radios?"

"They have radios."

Fuxi’s voice resonated within the command room.

"But their radios are damaged; the signal is terribly unstable."

"Since we first intercepted their transmission, we have completed two communications in total."

"From the last contact until now, we have been out of touch for twenty minutes."

"I assess that their radio equipment is likely completely destroyed."

"Deploy a drone to airdrop communication gear to them and re‑establish contact."

Lei Jie issued the order, and Fuxi replied without delay:

"Attack‑17 mission directive has been issued, loading now; we will airdrop PDA devices onto the target."

"The drop should be completed in fifteen minutes; if all goes well, contact can be restored immediately."

"Understood."

Lei Jie nodded slowly, then continued:

"Close‑range imaging of the equipment; send the pictures to Shen Yue and Jin Zhong."

"They previously encountered a similar monster in Liangxi City, but no intact corpse was left behind."

"Ask them to confirm whether this creature is of the same kind!"

"Copy that, reconnaissance drone is on standby."

Having received Fuxi’s reply, Lei Jie pressed on:

"Can we pinpoint a landing site nearby? Where is the nearest viable point?"

"G36 highway—based on earlier balloon reconnaissance imagery, there is a 1.2‑kilometre stretch of relatively smooth pavement, essentially suitable for take‑off and landing."

"That landing spot lies 1.6 kilometres in a straight line from the target’s position."

"Set that as our point; commence the operation!"

Lei Jie sprang to his feet, a sudden clarity washing over him.

To him, every preparatory task was already completed.

Now his sole objective was to fly the plane there, land, load the cargo, and turn back without delay.

Without a hint of hesitation, Lei Jie and Jiang Yu left the command room and raced toward the airfield.

Meanwhile, the two Mosquito bombers were fully serviced; as Lei Jie had demanded, all armaments had been stripped, leaving only empty bomb bays.

Lei Jie and Jiang Yu boarded in succession, the engines roared to life, and the massive whine of the propellers filled the air.

"Maintain a thousand‑meter low‑altitude flight!"

Lei Jie shouted loudly:

"The straight‑line distance is only 120 kilometres; we have no time for a circling descent maneuver."

"Fast! It must be fast!"

"Understood!"

Jiang Yu tapped his helmet, signalling that he was ready.

Moments later the bomber rolled slowly along the runway, and as soon as it reached the minimum take‑off speed, it lifted sharply.

Lei Jie’s heart hammered in his chest. He did not know what he would see, but he understood that if this device truly possessed the power the three Imperial Guard described—control over the beast tide—then it could become a heavy trump card for the Huaxia forces in the decisive battle against the tide.

It might even allow humanity, after the beast tide is utterly eradicated, to finally put an end to the monsters’ reign over this land.

Moreover, the truth behind the beast tide would rise to the surface.

The enigmatic “puppet master” would at last have his veil torn away.

Whether he hails from the mountain city or any other corner of this world,

the Huaxia army will find him and eliminate him.

The bomber’s altitude gradually climbed; staying below a thousand metres kept them within the honey‑comb network’s coverage.

When they were forty kilometres from the objective, Lei Jie received images captured by the reconnaissance drone.

A massive cubic apparatus.

He finally understood why the Imperial Guard had chosen to hand the intelligence over to the Huaxia side.

Such a thing is clearly beyond the handling capacity of the Mechanical Cult.

They had made the right choice.

Lei Jie lowered the flight altitude slightly, scanning the terrain for the smooth stretch of highway that Fuxi had marked on the map.

But the weather was brutally severe; a rolling haze shrouded the ground, rendering everything invisible to his eyes.

Blind landing?

That maneuver can only be performed with electronic assistance and ground guidance.

The very site he was to touch down on wasn’t even a proper airfield!

Would he truly have to gamble and plunge down?

Lei Jie drew a deep breath, then spoke:

"Jiang Yu, I will continue to lower altitude."

“ The clouds and mist on the ground are too thick; the landing conditions are terrible.”

“ Once I fly over, the haze should clear a bit.”

“ You must swiftly pierce the fog, pinpoint the landing site, and seize the chance to touch down!”

“ Understood.”

Jiang Yu, aboard another bomber, answered at once.

She made no superfluous pleas, even though she knew that “splitting the clouds” was in fact far more perilous than a direct landing.

Yet the squadron leader had already decided, and she could only obey.

Moreover, she could not afford to miss what might be a once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity.

She drew a deep breath and spoke:

“ Eleven kilometers out, prepare to circle, prepare to land.”

Lei Jie instinctively nodded, then said:

“ Prepare to descend.”

“ I see you!”

Before he could finish, a clamor crackled through his headset.

The voice continued:

“ Give us a few minutes!”

“ We have received your transmission!”

“ That Fuxi says we must guide you to a landing strip.”

“ We are igniting, give us a few minutes.”

It was the Imperial Guard.

Lei Jie's eyes suddenly brightened.

“ Copy that, we’ll hover for five minutes.”

He pulled the control stick up again, and the aircraft rose slowly.

At the instant the wing tilted, he saw clearly a long fiery dragon stretching across the ground.

The bonfire that had cleaved the mist was now alight.

The runway was illuminated.

He inhaled deeply and ordered:

“ Prepare to land!”
