Chapter 341: New World
Chapter 341: A New World
Darkness.
Endless darkness.
Lin Yu strained to widen his eyes, yet saw nothing.
The sensation filled him with terror.
He felt as though he had been thrust back to the age of six.
The first time he was locked in the punishment chamber, he had beheld the same black void.
Weariness and drowsiness rose like a tide, but he dared not close his eyes.
For each time he shut them and opened them again, the same impenetrable darkness greeted him.
The void threatened to swallow him whole; he flailed his arms, only to find he could touch nothing.
All sensation had fled; even the act of breathing left him unaware of any air filling his lungs.
He wanted to scream, but when he opened his mouth no sound escaped.
So.
Am I dead?
Lin Yu's heart hammered, yet even the very notion of a heartbeat seemed a phantom.
He stared in desperate desperation, quietly gazing into the boundless emptiness.
And in that instant a gentle voice whispered at his ear.
"Don't be nervous."
"Newcomers are all like you."
The words fell, echoing through the vacant space.
And then, the next second.
Lin Yu was suddenly revived.
He felt the fierce pressure of blood surging with each pulse, the tangible friction of skin against cloth.
His lungs drew in air, a faint, sharp hiss escaping his nostrils.
The dry air bit him with a subtle sting.
Yet that sting made his existence feel unmistakably real.
Am I still alive??
Or have I been given life again??
But where am I now??
Lin Yu jerked upright as the surrounding lights flared on.
He realized, with a start, that he stood inside a completely sealed white room.
There was no bed beneath him, only a smooth floor.
He had just lain on that floor, yet the soft sensation—where did it come from?
Is this heaven, or a dream?
His mind swirled in chaos; he recalled that he had perished in the battle against those mountain‑city folk.
When those red eyes ignited, he fought his final struggle with all his might, but in the end his body was pierced by a large‑caliber bullet.
Shattered.
He remembered the last image before darkness claimed him: a limb torn by the bullet, a thin strand of flesh and blood clinging to broken bone.
——
Now, his hands are whole.
Do those mountain‑city people truly possess such power?
Even a Saint‑blooded one could not fully heal from wounds so grievous, could they??
Lin Yu stared in horror at everything before him, and at that moment the voice sounded again.
"Just as you suspect, you have indeed died."
"In the medical sense of death."
"But we have granted you rebirth by another means."
"We did not mend the broken arm; we repaired your spirit."
When the words fell, terror etched itself across Lin Yu's face.
"Who are you?!"
"How can you read my thoughts??"
"That is irrelevant."
The voice continued:
"What matters is that you must adapt to everything you now see."
"Adapt to what? What do you want me to adapt to?!"
Lin Yu shouted his questions, while the voice remained calm and steady.
"I need you to adapt to this world."
"Then first tell me where I am!"
"Am I still in the mountain city? In its underground??"
Lin Yu scanned his surroundings, searching for an exit.
In his mind he plotted: if he could burst out, perhaps he could eliminate a few of those mountain‑city foes.
Seizing their weapons would surely sow chaos beneath the ground.
Even if escape proved impossible, he could draw their attention and aid any assault that might arise above.
The Chinese army.
They should have arrived by now, shouldn't they?
They will certainly come.
The thought flashed through his mind, and the voice sounded again the next instant.
"You place great trust in those friends of yours."
"They are indeed trustworthy." "Just as you think, the offensive on the surface has already been set in motion."
"But alas, they will probably never be able to breach the ground."
"Even if they wield nuclear weapons, the result would be the same."
At that moment, Lin Yu's hair stood on end.
“How on earth do you know what I'm thinking??”
He shouted in fury, his voice echoing through the empty chamber.
But no answer came.
Only a flat, even cold remark.
“It doesn't matter.”
After a pause, the voice continued:
“You'll understand later.”
“Later? When exactly is later??”
Lin Yu suddenly flopped onto the floor and closed his eyes.
“It seems you want me to do something.”
“Stop fantasizing.”
“I will say nothing, and I will do nothing.”
“I will just lie here.”
“I have no power over you, and you have none over me.”
“At worst, you could just kill me.”
That was the only recourse he could conceive.
In this utterly inescapable room, he clearly had no room for resistance.
Yet the owner of that voice granted him a “limited freedom.”
That proved he was of some use to it.
And to oppose it, the best strategy was to turn “useful” into “useless.”
He shut his eyes tight and began counting down from a thousand in his mind, trying to thwart the voice’s “mind‑reading.”
It seemed to work, indeed.
The voice’s owner adopted an even softer, more “seductive” tone.
“Don’t you really want to take a look?”
“Often you all believe you are right.”
“Just as before the so‑called ‘Huaxia army’ arrived, you thought you were correct.”
“Now, the situation is no different at all.”
“You know nothing of us, yet stubbornly refuse to accept it.”
“If you were right, you could never be hiding here!”
Lin Yu snapped his eyes open, only to be startled by a door appearing on the previously sealed wall.
He had no idea where that door had come from.
But the light that poured in from beyond the door.
was warm, gentle sunshine.
Lin Yu was stunned.
Instinctively, he rose to his feet.
And the voice sounded, perfectly timed:
“Whatever the case, go out and have a look.”
“It won’t hurt you.”
“Even if you distrust us, once you see everything we possess, you will surely change your mind.”
Lin Yu stood silently where he was.
After a moment, he clenched his teeth and stepped toward the doorway.
He beheld what lay beyond.
It was something he had never seen before.
A vista utterly alien to this world.
A village, trees, sunlight
People.
Lin Yu instinctively reached out his hand.
At that instant, the voice continued to urge him.
“Go.”
“Take that step.”
“Embrace a new world!”
