Chapter 19: How Legends Are Born
[Rolling on the ground begging for recommendations and collections!]
Fang Qi, knowing the plot, naturally controlled the timing with absolute precision; had he been even a fraction of a second slower, there would likely have been no chance left to fire the flare!
"Old Wu, if you were to face it, what are your chances?" Liang Shi looked toward the full-bearded man beside him, his expression grim.
"Before this, I would say seventy to eighty percent," Wu Shan’s countenance grew exceedingly solemn, "but now... it is difficult!"
Such offense, defense, and regenerative capability, combined with a speed that had just accelerated to a terrifying degree!
It was nearly perfect! Simply impossible to contend with!
Wu Shan was the strongest warrior present, and if even he possessed not a shred of confidence, the countenances of the others naturally grew even darker!
The name of the Tyrant truly lived up to its reputation! It was simply too formidable!
Of course, had they known this was merely a first-generation prototype, one wondered what expressions they would wear.
Fang Qi took a deep breath, finally drawing the long-awaited Magnum!
The Magnum possessed immense power, ensuring sufficient lethality even at medium range, yet throughout the entire game, relying on his rich gaming experience to scavenge every single bullet available, he had gathered no more than a dozen rounds.
And now, the remaining Magnum ammunition he held had dwindled to single digits!
Fang Qi pulled the trigger, pouring several successive rounds of the devastating Magnum bullets entirely into the Tyrant!
Yet such an attack seemed merely to stir a minor ripple upon the surface of a deep and vast lake!
The other team members opened fire one after another, but the onslaught of ordinary firearms was, to it, akin to nothing more than a mere scratch!
"The boss is almost out of bullets!" Among them, Song Qingfeng possessed the most extensive gaming experience, and thus he alone understood most clearly what the consequence of running dry would be.
Song Qingfeng’s words caused the hearts of the other onlookers to sink to the very bottom.
Not only that, but they witnessed the Tyrant launching a charge toward Fang Qi at a blinding speed!
Its colossal frame, in full charge, was far from slow; instead, it carried the overbearing momentum of Mount Tai crushing an egg!
Could he evade it once more?!
The hearts of everyone, without exception, hung in suspense!
Fang Qi, however, remained exceedingly calm at this moment.
Choosing Chris bestowed upon him the character's inherent combat techniques!
Though he was originally a warrior who had not even reached the peak of Body Refinement, through these days of constantly familiarizing himself with Chris’s combat skills, he had begun to merge these techniques into his own being, turning them into his own knowledge!
Furthermore, he had trained himself using Hunters as adversaries, and some of the Hunters' attack patterns were remarkably similar to the Tyrant's—charging, pouncing, clawing, tearing—these were all the methods of assault Fang Qi was most familiar with!
Moreover, he possessed a level advantage higher than anyone else present, the highest in the field—level twenty-three!
With multiple factors stacking together, Fang Qi's combat prowess could by no means be measured by ordinary standards!
Fang Qi leaped high into the air, immediately planting a foot firmly against the right wall to propel his form higher still, evading the Tyrant’s pounce by a mere hair’s breadth before pulling the Magnum’s trigger once more!
Three successive shots fired, the three bullets forming the shape of the character "Pin," all slamming into the heart region behind the Tyrant!
The continuous and powerful assault was evidently something even the Tyrant’s defense struggled to withstand!
It stumbled, and from the spot where it had been struck upon its back, blood erupted like a spring!
"The boss is incredible!"
"To think he could survive under such circumstances?!"
"Facing this kind of monster in a duel without using inner qi! Is the boss even human?"
The eyes of the people behind Fang Qi stared wide and straight!
To think he could evade even that!
To achieve such a feat without the ability to use inner qi was simply beyond belief!
Even if he lost this battle, it would be a feat well worth boasting about!
"You haven't seen the boss clearing out late-game minions with just a single knife!" Lin Shao shouted from behind, spit flying wildly, "That was what you call smooth and flowing!"
"Clearing minions with a knife?!"
"Isn't he afraid of infection?"
"Too confident, isn't he?"
Lin Shao's words immediately triggered another wave of exclamations from the surroundings.
"The Magnum is out of ammo!" Song Qingfeng voiced a stark and severe reality.
In truth, having experienced this game deeply, they had gradually come to understand what kind of world this was—a world devoid of inner qi, yet humanity had invented all sorts of powerful weapons to combat their enemies!
When they held ammunition in their hands, even foes several times stronger than themselves could be easily crushed! But if these weapons ran out of ammunition, the situation would become exceedingly awkward!
It was impossible to engage it in close combat with a knife, nor was that a good choice by any means!
A single moment of carelessness would absolutely result in being torn to pieces!
It was too difficult!
Even as mere onlookers from behind, they felt a wave of numbness wash over their scalps!
Fang Qi quickly ran in the opposite direction of the Tyrant, while the Tyrant, brought to its knees by Fang Qi’s few shots, was clearly unable to give chase for the time being!
But there was no ammunition left!
One must remember that Chris was merely an ordinary man who knew no inner qi; without a gun, how could he contend against such a monster?!
"It's over, no need to watch further." Although a sufficient distance had been opened from the Tyrant, despair settled into the hearts of everyone.
"The Tyrant is too strong!" Xu Zixin shook her head and let out a sigh, "I afraid Chris won't be able to clear the game; looks like I'll have to switch Jill out when I go back too."
Song Qingfeng also remarked with regret, "It seems Chris was only meant for us to familiarize ourselves with the gameplay... even the boss can't pass..."
"This Umbrella Company or whatever, to actually manufacture so many powerful monsters!"
From the sky, the loud, rhythmic thrumming of helicopter blades resounded!
Fang Qi's face lit up with joy, and taking advantage of the fact that the Tyrant had not yet caught up, he hurriedly waved toward the helicopter in the sky.
A square, elongated case was hurled down from the helicopter!
Simultaneously, Fang Qi executed a roll on the ground, swiftly retrieving the elongated black box.
"Got it!" Fang Qi rejoiced inwardly; it had finally arrived!
His flight in the opposite direction had not been for the sake of escaping! Rather, it was precisely to secure the time needed to retrieve this item under the Tyrant's assault!
"What does the boss intend to do?"
The crowd, who had already given up all hope and were preparing to turn and leave, were completely bewildered by Fang Qi’s action.
"What is that thing?" Everyone's eyes fixed curiously upon this elongated black box.
They saw that from the front of this elongated "black box," four thick, cylindrical gun barrels extended outward.
Whether it was its outer casing reflecting a metallic luster or those silvery-white, thick barrels, it exerted a soul-chilling sense of deterrence!
Fang Qi hoisted it steadily upon his shoulder, and seeing the Tyrant charging forward, he showed no fear, but instead pulled the trigger directly!
Swoosh!
A single rocket streaked forth from one of the barrel chambers!
The projectile, thick as a man's forearm and trailing a long plume of flame, roared out with a deafening supersonic shriek!
Sensing imminent peril, the Tyrant instantly crossed its massive, razor-sharp claws to shield its vital organs!
Immediately following came a cataclysmic, earth-shaking roar!
The very ground shuddered violently in response!
Countless fragments of flesh and bone erupted amidst a colossal bloom of fire, and a wave of scorching heat sent Fang Qi staggering back several paces!
"One shot to seal the deal!"
Fang Qi inverted the launcher with satisfaction and blew gently at the nonexistent smoke drifting from the muzzle, his undershirt already drenched in sweat!
"Good thing I’ve practiced!" Fang Qi laughed heartily, finally breathing a sigh of relief.
Dead silence.
The entire internet cafe fell so still that one could have heard a pin drop!
No one could believe that the unremarkable "black box" in Fang Qi's hands possessed such terrifying might!
Such was the allure of hot weaponry!
Such was the destructive majesty of hot weaponry!
Unlike the bloody, blade-to-flesh struggles of cold weapons, firearms were entirely focused on the result!
It was a magnificent, breathtaking explosion! This was the ultimate romance belonging to men!
They stared fixedly at the screen, gazing at the rocket launcher in Fang Qi's hands; such a weapon would surely strike dread into the hearts of not just Grand Martial Masters, but likely even the high-and-mighty Martial Kings and Grand Cultivators!
Shouldering the rocket launcher, Chris boarded the helicopter alongside his comrades as the nightmarish mansion below crumbled to ash in a colossal detonation!
Beside him, Rebecca had already fallen asleep from sheer exhaustion, while Jill leaned tiredly against Chris's shoulder; sunlight broke through the scattering dark clouds, bathing Chris's chiseled, slightly blood-smudged face in its glow.
At this moment, the onlookers felt as though they were gazing upon a deity!
What a man!
What absolute dominance!
Was this truly the ending of Resident Evil 1?!
After long anticipation, they had finally witnessed this scene!
The helicopter soared into the deep blue sky, a scene of immense grandeur and magnificent scale!
Every game, no matter how engaging, was not meant to be pure fun at every single moment.
There was the arduous toil of battling Hunters, the brain-racking frustration of solving puzzles, the deep fatigue born of endless monster-slaying, and the disheartening despair when stuck on an impassable stage.
Yet upon witnessing this final scene and looking back, they realized that everything had been entirely worth it!
To be sure, not everyone in the world could be called a hero, but the innate heroic passion within their hearts would never be extinguished because of that!
And because of this, this epic-worthy sequence was exceptionally precious!
It perfectly and vividly portrayed all the lofty ambitions and heroic spirit exclusive to a true hero!
If they had previously been stuck on the mere mechanics of how to clear the game, they now began to understand how a game truly ought to be played!
This final scene was simply too magnificent!
By comparison, their own previous playthroughs felt utterly uninspired and worthless!
Watching the helicopter dissolve into the depths of the radiant sunshine, the hearts of everyone present—whether veterans like Song Qingfeng or newcomers who had just touched Resident Evil today—could not find peace!
This was the very scene they all yearned for in their hearts, and now it had been laid bare before their eyes!
They cast complex gazes toward Fang Qi, who, in tandem with the familiar credit music, chose that precise moment to log out of the game.
Turning around, he blinked in surprise: "Why are you all crowding around here?"
"The boss is mighty!"
"A pure man! A true warrior!"
"I feel as though I just witnessed a biographical chronicle with my own eyes."
"No, it was an epic poem!"
"This is what a real man should do!" The burly Liang Shi watched on, his blood boiling with fervor.
"To think... to think it could actually be done like this?!" Song Qingfeng clenched his fists tightly.
"Suddenly, I think the boss looks so handsome!" The newly arrived Xi Xiaoyun murmured softly, "Watching the boss play makes me feel like this game isn't even that scary anymore. How about we give it a try in a bit?"
"This contraption makes me think of a cultivator's spiritual treasure." Wu Shan, sporting a full beard, had been watching from behind for a long time and couldn't help but feel his hands itch, "I really want to try it myself! If one had a weapon like this? What cultivator would we ever have to fear?!"
"Zixin!" Shen Qingqing called out with mounting impatience, "I want to play too, teach me, alright!"
"Didn't you just say you wouldn't play?" Xu Zixin glared at her, exasperated; she had wasted so much breath earlier, and now Shen Qingqing was actively asking to play?
"Watching you play just isn't as fun!" Shen Qingqing giggled, "Look at how brilliantly the boss played."
"..." Xu Zixin's beautiful face instantly broke into a dark scowl; what did she mean, watching her wasn't fun?
Look at how deftly I maneuvered to dodge those zombie dogs, you literally understand absolutely nothing, alright!
