Chapter 395: Demonic Power
Boss Fang's game progress had always been a step ahead of everyone else's, so whenever Boss Fang started playing, a huge crowd would inevitably gather behind him, watching him navigate Devil May Cry.
To cultivators, this game was indeed a bit too difficult; even though the protagonist possessed swordsmanship and a formidable combat prowess for the players to wield—just like in Legend of Sword and Fairy—this was by no means a game for ordinary people, as Dante's attack and movement speeds, along with the monsters' attack and casting speeds, were restored to their proper, realistic standards.
Take the giant demon world centipede in the Temen-ni-gru, located past the Cerberus; this massive centipede could control clusters of lightning and ball lightning, and since it cast its spells using its own powerful demonic energy and innate talent, the omens and casting times were incredibly brief, to say nothing of the ball lightning itself, which in the original game only floated slowly, moving at a speed slower than the most common real-world ball lightning (5 meters per second)—a speed at which not only the true Dante, but even any random warrior in the shop could dodge back and forth several times.
Yet the system's version of the ball lightning cluster was clearly different, as real ball lightning could travel from stationary to unimaginable velocities (over 20,000 kilometers per hour), and the ball lightning in the game evidently adhered to these limits (though under the control of the demon centipede, it still could not reach its maximum speed).
Consequently, forcing cultivators to suddenly deal with these crises in the manner of a martial warrior proved somewhat difficult.
All of this was challenging enough, to say nothing of the advanced techniques Boss Fang employed; the gameplay of these cultivators was still stuck on basic, repetitive slashing.
But while they could not pull off these flashy techniques themselves, it did not hinder their enjoyment of watching Boss Fang play in the slightest; in fact, unlike the warriors of Jiuhua City who bitterly practiced their controls, these cultivators watched with even greater enthusiasm.
At this moment, whether it was Black Demon, Tang Yuan, and the other few Sea of Consciousness Realm Grand Cultivators playing Devil May Cry, or Mo Xian, Daoist Master Xi Chi, and the rest of the cultivation crowd, even Ning Bi stood at the back with a cup of milk tea, watching Boss Fang's maneuvers.
Floating in the sky was a flying quilt: "This... this venerable one thinks highly of this kid, he possesses quite the style of the Saint Race!"
As it spoke, it took another sip of milk tea: "Oh my, why is the weather so cold?!"
Even if Boss Fang did not broadcast his gameplay, a vast crowd would still gather behind him.
Countless terrifying demons lurked within the demonic tower, and all one encountered was endless combat; yet similarly, Dante also obtained quite a few weapons from this place.
For instance, Artemis, the moon god gun found in the tower, was a demon world firearm capable of unleashing a massive barrage of demonic arrows.
The manufacturing principles of this firearm were clearly entirely different from technological firearms; this was a true magical firearm.
If the technological firearms in Counter-Strike, Resident Evil, and Grand Theft Auto V were considered the basics, then weapons like Ebony and Ivory, Artemis, and Lady's multi-purpose missile launcher—which could fire highly powerful heat-seeking tracking missiles—could be said to have given them a clear path toward the research and development of advanced weaponry in Devil May Cry 3.
At the same time, it came with distinctly styled combat methods.
Firearms were practically divine artifacts for cultivators when their cultivation was low, as they consumed little energy and possessed considerable power, but in battles between Grand Cultivators, their damage remained somewhat weak, which was why few ever used such things in high-level duels.
But once they researched and utilized the firearms and combat styles from Devil May Cry 3, the future might be a different story.
Boss Fang was seen controlling Dante as he advanced, his combat becoming increasingly proficient.
Coupled with the gradual upgrading of a series of skills, his combat style grew more rich and colorful, featuring maneuvers like the Royal Guard's perfect airborne defense and the various incredibly flashy gunplay styles of the Gunslinger.
And after defeating the flame-and-ice headless horsemen, he could even tame the twin ice-and-fire blades transformed from the two headless horsemen.
"These two great blades can actually talk?!" The onlookers watched in pleasant surprise; the three-section staff transformed from the Cerberus earlier had been astonishing enough, but they had not expected these twin blades to be even more so, for not only did they possess terrifying combat power themselves, but upon being defeated, they actually called out to Dante in deep, muffled voices, requesting to follow him.
Dante seemed to be considering whether or not to take them along, and after a moment of thought, he spoke: "Okay! But you two, no talking!"
As he spoke, he already held the twin blades in hand, red and blue flames rising from the edges, and as he brandished them, red and blue flames danced like streams of light through the hall, instantly transforming into a massive, interlocking storm of red and blue fire!
A wave of gasps and screams erupted from behind Boss Fang.
The ensuing first battle with Vergil required even less explanation; contrary to Vergil, who worshipped their father's power and thus wished to activate the demonic tower to open the gateway between the human and demon worlds, Dante had inherited their parents' love and mission for humanity, and as a demon hunter, though he refused to admit it with his lips, he possessed a human side deep within his heart.
Yet these twin brothers with utterly opposite personalities, entangled by fate, initiated their first battle atop the summit of the demonic tower.
The towering demonic tower seemed to reach the roof of the world, and the bright moon, resembling a massive white jade plate, seemed to hang just outside the tower, as if one could reach out and grasp the water-like silver moonlight.
"So, this is what they call a heartwarming family reunion? Huh?" Dante maintained his characteristic playful and mocking attitude, while Vergil on the other side held his blade with one hand, his expression cold and solemn, looking just like a cold, ruthless demon.
Beneath a few wisps of dark clouds, fragments of moonlight were obscured, the wind whipped the hem of the blue trench coat, and then, a flash of a blade erupted!
The light of the Yamato was brighter than the moonlight, so much so that even the moon in the sky lost its color.
Vergil was clearly more powerful than Dante, and in this battle, he revealed just a tip of the iceberg of his terrifying swordsmanship.
Compared to Dante, Vergil's swordsmanship was more meticulous and orderly; his teleporting, drawing, and sheathing of the blade made him seem like an elegant noble, yet the formidable strength he displayed with such composure left everyone even more breathless.
"How does this guy feel even cooler than Dante!"
"There's someone cooler than Dante?! Where?!"
More people crowded around.
"So fast!"
It was not merely fast; the sheer force capable of cleaving a hard-to-kill Grim Reaper into pieces that exploded into scattered demonic mist meant that Vergil's blade was like a weapon that claimed lives directly!
The onlookers felt as though they were watching not a game, but an incredibly exhilarating movie.
Of course, without even learning Devil Trigger, Dante was no match for Vergil in this scene no matter how one fought, and it was precisely at the end of the battle that everyone witnessed Dante gaining control over the demonic power within his body, feeling that instantaneously erupting, terrifying power even through the screen.
This game was clearly not just exhilarating to play; even the crowd of onlookers behind found it supremely gratifying to watch.
"This is the power of a demon?!"
"Hmph hmph! This little guy is still not as powerful as this venerable one! Gulp..." From overhead came the sound of someone drinking milk tea through a straw.
