Chapter 1008: Devour Heavenly Dao
Chapter 1008: Devouring the Heavenly Dao
"Nana!!" Li Huowang's heart-rending scream echoed through the room; Yang Na was dead, gone right there in his arms.
Looking down at Yang Na, who lay peacefully in his embrace, Li Huowang felt as if a rusted, blunt blade had been driven into his heart and was being twisted incessantly.
"Don't panic, stay calm! Stay calm, we haven't lost yet! We haven't lost!! There must be a way!" Gasping for air, Li Huowang gritted his teeth and struck his head with the hilt of his knife, desperate to use the pain to force himself into composure.
But the method that had never failed him before was useless now; no matter how many times he struck himself, he felt nothing. The Deity of Pain was dead, too!
Just as Li Huowang began to feel his vision blurring, he heard a faint, indistinct sound of music.
Scanning the room littered with corpses with his single eye, Li Huowang’s gaze finally locked onto Zhao Shuangdian’s computer; it was a notification sound coming from the laptop!
Battered and bloodied, Li Huowang stumbled toward it, only to find the data on the screen gone, leaving behind nothing but an empty symbol of infinity, ∞, pulsing there.
Staring blankly at the mark, Li Huowang immediately understood this was the hint Zhao Shuangdian had left him before she died—there was still a chance!
"This... what does it represent? Infinity? A cycle?" Li Huowang stared at the mark, his expression twisting in agony as he struggled to think.
But no matter how he racked his brain, he could not fathom what the symbol meant.
Even as he desperately beat his own head with his severed hand, it was to no avail; the pain had vanished.
"Why... why can't you just speak clearly? Why can't you just say it! Why must you make me guess!!" Roaring in fury, Li Huowang lunged forward and kicked Zhao Shuangdian’s corpse.
Yet, as he saw the body shift from his kick, the eyes of the frantic, desperate Li Huowang suddenly lit up.
"I don't understand because the Heavenly Dao I command is Bewilderment. Although I can't yet grasp what Zhao Shuangdian's Heavenly Dao is, if I can absorb it, I will surely understand the secret behind the message she left!"
Understanding everything, Li Huowang prepared to devour the Heavenly Dao within Zhao Shuangdian’s body.
But before he could even begin, his consciousness began to fray, and an overwhelming wave of drowsiness washed over him; not only was his body failing, but the lingering pain was fading away entirely.
This was no good omen; Li Huowang had experienced this before. The disappearance of pain was the sensation of dying, and he was about to follow in the footsteps of the other Deities.
"No... no! I cannot die, not yet! If I die, everything is over! I am the only chance left!"
"Think, think of a way, there must be a way!"
Li Huowang struggled desperately, but even as he plunged his combat knife into his own thigh, the drowsiness in his heart grew heavier.
He did not know how it happened, but when he came to his senses again, he saw Yang Na’s body lying peacefully before him, as if she were merely asleep.
Li Huowang was startled by the sight and stumbled backward. "No! Nana! I cannot do this!! I cannot take your Heavenly Dao of Death! I cannot!"
Though he said this, as Li Huowang collapsed to the ground, on the verge of being crushed by the encroaching sleep, he roared in grief and rage with a twisted expression. "Qing Wanglai! Just you wait!!"
He truly did not want to do this, but if he wished to survive, the only path was to seize the Heavenly Dao of the Unborn Mother.
He must not die; if he died, Yang Na would never truly return.
With blood and tears streaming down his face, Li Huowang used his final ounce of strength to crawl to Yang Na’s side, trembling as he lifted her head and kissed her tenderly.
As he fully devoured the Heavenly Dao of Death, Li Huowang felt the sensation of impending death stall; it neither worsened nor faded.
Though he would not die for now, Li Huowang, clutching Yang Na’s head to his chest and weeping, felt a heartache so profound he could barely breathe.
Even so, he had no time for sorrow, for if he stopped now, all his previous efforts would be in vain.
"It's alright, Nana, I won't leave you here all alone; we go together!" Forcing himself to stay calm, Li Huowang lifted Yang Na’s hair and wrapped it around his own neck.
Ji Zai looked down and saw the ever-changing chaos of the Unborn Mother hanging against his chest, keeping him company.
"Nana! Let's go! We go together! It isn't over yet! There is still a turning point!!"
Li Huowang stumbled back to his feet and walked toward Zhao Shuangdian, continuing the task he had left unfinished.
With his single, bloodshot eye, he stood up and stared fixedly at the symbol on the computer screen.
As he watched, he gradually understood the meaning behind the symbol. That factory—that factory was the key to breaking the cycle. That factory was not dead!!
Even if he was poisoned, even if they were all dead, there was still a chance; it was not over! As long as he found that factory and destroyed it completely, he could rewind time once more! Everything could start anew!!
Thinking this, Li Huowang stood up without hesitation, ready to head out and find the factory beneath the Gobi Desert.
But as he passed by the Dice, he looked at the reflective sunglasses on its face, knelt down to take them for himself, and then snatched the Heavenly Dao from the Dice as well.
As Li Huowang stood up, feeling the infusion of various Heavenly Daos, he felt much better than before.
He wiped his mouth forcefully and, without hesitation, gripped his weapon and walked toward the tightly shut door.
Gasping for breath, Li Huowang grabbed the bolt, took a deep breath, and pushed the door open with a sudden burst of strength; the familiar Gobi Desert appeared before him once more.
With a grim expression, Li Huowang stepped over the dilapidated threshold and strode out into the desert.
The Gobi was dry and scorching, and sweat mixed with blood streamed down his body, but Li Huowang felt little thirst, pressing forward along the path he had walked before.
But the Gobi was vast, and every direction seemed the same; for a moment, Li Huowang wondered if he had taken the wrong path.
Just then, he spotted a black speck in the distance and began to walk toward it.
After about five minutes, Li Huowang reached the black speck.
Only when he was this close did Li Huowang finally see what it was: it was the previously deceased Chen Hongyu, and the blackness was a thick layer of flies covering her body.
