Chapter 156: Super Fireball Spell!
Chapter 156: Super Fireball!
Boom!
The volcano erupted.
Countless streams of molten lava shot into the sky, falling back down as an endless rain of fire that blanketed the entire island.
Monstrous beasts fled in panic, trampling over one another in their desperation to escape.
The remaining competitors stared in horror at the erupting mountain, bewildered.
How could the volcano have erupted so soon after the contest began?
Wasn’t the competition supposed to last a full day?
Thud, thud, thud!
A stampede of monsters surged across the land as fiery meteors rained from above.
The contestants faced trials beyond imagination—
one misstep, and they would be crushed beneath thundering hooves;
one stroke of bad luck, and a falling fireball would obliterate them where they stood.
High in the air, Li Wei floated safely, untouched by the blazing projectiles descending from the sky.
“Ahh!”
A cry pierced through the chaos.
Li Wei instinctively turned his head.
Melissa and Lilith were trapped on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by flowing rivers of lava.
Above them, a flaming meteor hurtled toward their position—death descending from the heavens.
Suddenly, a streak of white light shot upward into the sky.
Li Wei froze for a moment before realizing—someone had chosen to exit the secret realm.
Whether by choice or forced by peril, they had been teleported away.
Melissa looked up at the plummeting fireball, her face pale with terror.
“We’re finished.”
Surrounded on all sides by molten death, there was no path left to flee.
Lilith gazed upward, calm and composed.
Melissa tightened her grip on her staff, her expression grim. “Lilith, I’ll cast a spell to block the falling fire. You leave the realm first.”
She began chanting.
But the rain of fire fell faster than she anticipated.
And misfortune never came alone.
A second surge of lava burst from the volcano, rolling down the mountainside like a tidal wave, swallowing every high ground in its path—
including the rock where they stood.
Even if she shielded them from the sky, they could not escape the molten flood rushing toward them.
Melissa’s face twisted in despair. “Damn it… too late!”
Tears of shadow streamed from Lilith’s eyes, spreading outward like ink in water, enveloping both of their forms in darkness.
Whoosh! Boom!
Fire rained down, shattering stone, crashing into the lava, sending waves of molten spray flying.
From a safe distance far away, a patch of darkness shimmered—and then emerged two figures unharmed.
Breathing heavily, Melissa exhaled in relief.
Then she stared at Lilith in shock.
“What kind of magic was that?”
Lilith did not answer.
Instead, she turned her gaze toward the sky—toward the spot where Li Wei hovered.
“You should go back,” she said. “It will be dangerous ahead.”
Melissa blinked in surprise. “You’re not leaving?”
Lilith shook her head, silent.
Seeing this, Melissa could only depart alone.
Now, with the volcanic eruption, fire elements in the air raged wildly, chaotic and untamed.
Other elemental forces near the volcano were severely disrupted.
The power of water-based spells weakened once more.
Melissa’s strength was likely reduced to only sixty or seventy percent of her full might.
With her abilities crippled and the trial growing ever deadlier, she had no choice but to withdraw—ending her contest early.
“I quit the secret realm.”
As Melissa voluntarily exited, her score froze at exactly 60 points—unchanging from that moment on.
Lilith melted into shadow once more, vanishing swiftly against the tide, racing back up the mountain.
At the crater, Russell, Bear Two, and Savis formed the unluckiest trio.
They had already retreated from the volcano’s mouth when the lava giant departed.
Yet when the eruption came, they were still dangerously close.
Now, they faced the full fury of the blast head-on.
Trapped on a small highland within the crater, they were encircled by rivers of boiling magma and suffocating fumes that burned their eyes and choked their breath.
“What do we do now?” Bear Two asked.
If they exited the realm now, they’d almost certainly end at the bottom of the rankings.
They had rushed straight for the lava giant, barely slaying any monsters along the way.
“There—fire elementals!” Savis pointed to the right.
They turned. A few fire sprites danced playfully within the molten flow.
Russell’s eyes lit up. “Lure them over and kill them. That should give us several hundred points at least.”
The three exchanged a glance, realizing there was no other choice.
Russell sent forth his fire elemental spirit, weaving it among the enemies, luring them closer.
Trusting its kin without suspicion, the fire elemental approached near the trio.
Savis cast his spell.
Second-tier ice magic!
"Ice Chain Bind!"
Icy chains surged forward, wreathed in deep frost, coiling tightly around the fire elementals, pinning them in place.
The chilling force steadily sapped their fiery strength.
Savis’ face tightened. "Hurry! I can't hold on much longer!"
Ice magic was already pushed to its limit here.
Chains that could easily bind high-level second-tier magical beasts elsewhere now trembled after only seconds—
on the verge of shattering at any moment.
"Leave it to me!" Bear Two roared.
"Rage of the Frozen Bear King!"
A colossal ice bear rose behind him, radiating bone-piercing cold. With one mighty swipe, it struck the trapped fire elementals.
At the front stood a second-tier fire elemental. It bellowed, hurling a massive fireball.
The others followed suit, launching their attacks in unison.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Fireballs collided with the bear’s icy paw, erupting in violent explosions.
A blast of freezing wind erupted outward, cooling the surrounding magma.
But soon, the molten rock melted through the frost once more.
Second-tier ice magic!
"Frost Nova!"
A sphere of glacial energy detonated among the fire elementals.
First-tier ones vanished under the spell’s might.
"Shatterfrost Palm!"
The ice bear’s palm gathered a thick layer of rime, then slammed down again.
Striking the second-tier fire elemental, wave after wave of frost encased its body—
freezing raging flames into solid ice, creating an impossible sight.
Then, in the next heartbeat, overwhelming force crashed down.
The frozen elemental—and the ice entombing it—shattered together.
Crack!
Boom!
Its body exploded apart.
Savis seized the moment, delivering the final blow.
All credit flowed to Savis.
Bear Two and Russell locked eyes.
"Hand over the score card," Russell said.
Savis raised an Ice Barrier Shield and shouted, "Exit the realm!"
"Not so fast!"
The ice bear swept its paw sideways, blocking Savis’ retreat.
On the brink of infighting—
suddenly, a powerful presence loomed nearby.
Before them stood a towering lava giant, wreathed in roaring flames.
Russell, Bear Two, and Savis paled instantly.
Together, they cried: "Exit the realm!"
If they didn’t flee now, they would die here.
Three pillars of white light descended, enveloping their forms.
Just as they were about to vanish, they glimpsed a shadow appearing midair.
A blinding, radiant orb materialized in the sky.
Li Wei stood there, one hand clutching the Flame Spirit Pearl, drawing fire essence to replenish his magic,
the other weaving a charged Fireball Spell.
