Chapter 526: Splitting the Soul

Chapter 526: Severing the Soul

“How do you sever a soul?” Gorsevi asked.

Li Wei did not know how to sever a soul either.

He was not skilled in such matters.

However, he knew someone who was exceptionally adept at it—

the legendary lich, Torresta.

Yet now, seeking out a legendary lich for the method seemed far too late.

“No… perhaps there’s still time.”

A flicker of inspiration struck Li Wei’s mind.

There was something on his person that might allow him to contact the legendary lich immediately.

Li Wei raised his left hand, revealing a bone ring hidden within the flesh of his middle finger.

The Golden Bone Ring.

A treasure passed down to him by the legendary lich from the dream world.

It was said to be a legendary-grade artifact.

Currently, Li Wei had yet to fully unlock its power.

Beyond controlling undead skeletons, the Golden Bone Ring could summon twelve death attendants.

Savignia the Bone Flute Dancer, Ano the Undead Minotaur Warrior, Mophis the Mountain Behemoth, Darkwind Trace, and Elizabeth the Undying Ghost…

Li Wei had already met five among the twelve.

Through the Golden Bone Ring, he might be able to reach the legendary lich and obtain the spell for severing souls.

Though he wasn’t entirely certain whether it would succeed.

He glanced at Gorsevi and quickly said, “Wait for me a moment.”

With that, he turned and walked out of the cage.

Gorsevi nodded and replied softly, “Mm, alright.”

Her eyes followed Li Wei’s departing figure, a glimmer of hope appearing in them.

Monis watched Li Wei leave, her thoughts unknown.

Gorsevi reached out and took Monis’s hand, feeling an icy chill unlike any human touch.

She gently comforted her, “Monis, it’ll be okay. Li Wei will definitely find a way to save you.”

Feeling the warmth from Gorsevi’s palm, Monis, who had been tense beyond measure, slowly relaxed.

She remained silent, lifting her gaze toward the ceiling above, lost in thought.

After leaving the cage, Li Wei found a safe place.

He activated the power of the Golden Bone Ring.

His consciousness plunged into the ring, descending into a dark space.

Twelve dim silhouettes floated within the darkness.

As he drew closer to those figures, Li Wei could sense different auras emanating from each one.

These were the soul flames of the twelve death attendants, preserved within the Golden Bone Ring.

Through these soul flames, Li Wei could summon the death attendants to fight by his side.

But right now, he didn’t need them to fight.

He only needed one to help him contact the legendary lich and acquire the soul-severing spell.

The problem was, Li Wei couldn’t communicate with the death attendants over long distances through the soul flames stored in the ring.

Simply summoning them here would serve no purpose.

The Golden Bone Ring only had the ability to summon—it couldn’t send them back.

Unless… the death attendant had the ability to communicate across vast distances with the legendary lich.

Li Wei pondered for a long while, carefully sensing the twelve distinct auras before him, trying to identify which soul flame belonged to whom.

The soul flames looked nearly identical, differing only slightly in color.

Li Wei could only distinguish them by the unique aura each carried.

So far, he had only identified five of the attendants he’d already met.

When he sensed a particular aura, his heart stirred slightly.

If it were her, perhaps it would work.

Li Wei gazed at the translucent blue soul flame before him, reached out, grasped it, infused it with power, and initiated the summoning.

Once the target was selected, the surrounding black void swiftly receded.

Li Wei returned to the Ice Jade Palace, a translucent blue soul flame floating in his palm.

As magical energy flowed into the flame,

the translucent blue fire rapidly expanded, forming a vortex as tall as a man. A semi-transparent figure gradually emerged from within.

Whoosh!

The vortex of soul fire dispersed like smoke, sparks fading into the air.

Elizabeth the Undying Ghost appeared before Li Wei.

She bowed gracefully in noble fashion. “Lord Li Wei.”

Li Wei greeted her, “Elizabeth, long time no see.”

After exchanging pleasantries, he got straight to the point.

“Elizabeth, do you know the spell for severing souls? I recall you having such an ability,” Li Wei said.

Elizabeth replied, “Regarding the spell for severing souls—I don’t. My abilities are all innate instincts.”

“May I ask why Lord Li Wei is inquiring about this?”

Li Wei explained, “Right now, I want to safely separate someone’s soul from their body.”

Upon hearing this, Elizabeth paused in thought before replying, “Perhaps my master possesses such an ability. I’m sorry, but I cannot do this myself.”

Li Wei asked, “Where is your other self? Is there still a fragment of you over there?”

“Can you help me contact your master and have him pass on the soul-severing spell to me?”

Hearing this, Elizabeth nodded and said, “If it’s just contacting my master, that shouldn’t be a problem.”

“Please wait a moment. I still have another fragment active outside; returning to the camp will take some time.”

Li Wei nodded. “Mm, understood.” He glanced at the remaining sunlight on the horizon, thinking of Torresta.

Torresta had already vanished.

Though the legendary lich and Toresta were one and the same,

Levi could not bring himself to see them as the same person.

Seeing Elizabeth stirred within him an uncontrollable wave of longing for Toresta.

Levi asked, “What have you all been up to lately?”

Elizabeth stood quietly beside Levi and replied, “We’ve been gathering the undead from the ancient battlefield, hunting down those who refuse to submit to our master.”

A flicker passed through Levi’s eyes. “Toresta… your master—what does he intend to do?”

Elizabeth shook her head. “I don’t know. Our master hasn’t told us. He simply gives each of us tasks.”

Levi glanced at Elizabeth beside him, then turned his head slightly and murmured, “Is that so?”

The legendary lich was gathering the undead from the ancient battlefield—how could Levi not suspect that he intended to unleash a true undead apocalypse?

Months ago, the legendary lich had already triggered a small-scale undead cataclysm.

Millions of undead surrounded the Elemental Tower, causing no small amount of damage.

But compared to a real undead apocalypse, millions were nothing.

If all the undead within the ancient battlefield left and launched an assault on Middle-earth, it would undoubtedly be a catastrophe beyond imagination.

Levi didn’t know what the legendary lich truly intended.

Was he seeking revenge against someone in the Human Empire?

Or was he gathering the power of every undead in the ancient battlefield to challenge the Dragon King?

Tap, tap, tap!

Footsteps echoed from outside the courtyard.

Guswei rushed in and saw Levi and Elizabeth.

Her gaze sharpened as she looked at Elizabeth. “Levi, be careful!”

“Why is there an undead here?”

She sensed the aura of undeath—and it wasn’t weak. At the very least, it was a sixth-tier undead.

That’s why she had hurriedly left her cage and followed the scent straight to Elizabeth.

Levi saw Guswei raise her Frost Staff, ready for battle.

He quickly raised his hand to stop her. “Wait, don’t act rashly.”

Only after calming Guswei did Levi find time to explain Elizabeth’s origins.

Guswei stared at Levi in astonishment. “You can summon undead too? How do you know necromancer spells?”

Then realization struck. “Could it be... the Arcane Codex?”

Levi gave a bitter smile and shook his head. “No, it’s far more complicated than that. I can’t explain it all right now. Just trust me—Elizabeth won’t harm anyone.”

“Elizabeth, this is Guswei. She’s the mayor of this city, Voldred.”

Levi introduced Guswei’s identity.

Elizabeth gracefully curtsied. “Greetings, Mayor.”

Guswei studied her for a moment before grabbing Levi’s arm. “Not just mayor—she’s also mine.”

Elizabeth looked at her, then at Levi, a subtle shift in her gaze.

Levi could only smile silently.

Once the misunderstanding was cleared, Guswei became extremely curious about Elizabeth.

“Are you a ghost? Why is your body transparent?” Guswei asked.

“Yes, I am of the Wraith race,” Elizabeth replied.

“If your body is transparent, why are your clothes transparent too? How do you even wear them?”

And so the conversation drifted off course.

Levi quickly interrupted Guswei’s questions and turned to Elizabeth. “How did it go?”

Elizabeth had been about to answer Guswei when she heard Levi’s question and responded first.

“They’ve returned to camp. We should meet our master soon.”

“Our master?” Guswei frowned.

Her gaze shifted between Levi and Elizabeth.

She asked with confusion, “Levi, didn’t you summon her? Isn’t she yours?”

Before Levi could speak, Elizabeth explained, “Lord Levi is one of my masters. The ‘master’ I refer to is the one who created me.”

Guswei blinked. “The one who created a sixth-tier wraith?”

Just how powerful was the master Elizabeth spoke of?

And Levi actually knew such a formidable being?

Instinctively, she turned to look at Levi.

Levi sighed and explained helplessly, “In a way, Elizabeth’s master is my mentor.”

“Your mentor? But isn’t your mentor…”

Guswei recalled what Guze had told her.

She knew that although Guze was Levi’s teacher, the one who truly instructed Levi was another person—

the strongest mage in Guze’s tower, and its master.

Suddenly, Elizabeth spoke up. “Master has given me the Soul Division spell.”

Hearing this, Levi’s face lit up. “Excellent.”

Then he frowned again. “But if you can’t cast spells, how am I supposed to learn Soul Division?”

Elizabeth extended her hand. “Lord Levi, if you hold my hand, you’ll see.”

Without hesitation, Levi grasped Elizabeth’s outstretched hand.

Soft, like holding nothing at all.

In the next instant, Levi felt a sensation of souls intertwining.

Elizabeth channeled a force through her palm directly into Levi’s soul.

It was her spiritual energy.
