Chapter 224: A Valuable Cave
The cave was by no means narrow; on the contrary, even a giant dragon could pass through without hindrance, a testament to its sheer spaciousness.
Roning observed as he walked, noting that the walls here were remarkably uniform, as if they had been intentionally polished, and moreover, lighting fixtures were installed upon them, which emitted the purplish-red glow seen from outside the cave at night.
"A magic crystal lamp?"
Roning removed one of the lighting fixtures from the wall; its appearance differed from the magic crystal lamps in Fort Ushan, and he wondered what sort of structure lay within.
"These lamps go out, and I often see people taking them down to infuse them with energy, after which they regain their brightness."
Carlos recounted what he had witnessed. "Over these years, I cannot recall how many times Natalia and the others have done such a thing."
A rechargeable device?
Roning's eyes lit up. "Elrond, take two of them over to study as well."
"Yes, my Lord!"
Elrond could not understand Carlos's words, but he too harbored some curiosity toward the light fixtures on the wall, and hearing Roning say this, he could not resist walking over to take one down.
Rechargeable magic crystal lamps were available back in Fort Ushan, though the production cost was much higher, and the manufacturing craftsmanship was naturally far superior to ordinary ones; Roning had never encountered this field of knowledge, though he could study it when time permitted.
Although research of this nature was even more expensive than Elrond's crafting of magical potions—to the point where some advanced mages obsessed with the craft would go bankrupt because of it.
Nevertheless, mastering a technique, or even a resource, constituted a form of capital. Should the day come when it was needed in the future, there would be no need to search far and wide for information, or even beg others for assistance.
The two men and the dragon lingered for a moment before continuing forward.
Within the cave lay corridors, grand halls, and even secret chambers and rooms; the place was like a castle built inside a mountain.
The sole discomfort was that the air inside did not circulate well, resulting in a very unpleasant odor.
"Master, here is the altar used to control me."
After rounding a corridor, Carlos arrived in yet another relatively spacious room.
In the center of the room stood a circular altar, engraved with intricate patterns; based on Roning's experience, this ought to be a magic circle, and an exceedingly high-end one at that.
For when Roning concentrated his mental strength to observe it, a stinging sensation arose in his mind.
"How did Natalia operate it?" Roning inquired.
Carlos walked to the side. "She infused energy into this palm print area, which activates the magic circle upon the altar."
"Oh?"
Curiosity piqued, Roning walked over and attempted to infuse battle qi into the palm print, but the magic circle showed no change whatsoever.
He switched to infusing mana into it, yet the result remained the same.
"Elrond, you give it a try."
The light mage emulated Roning'
No wonder Carlos said it often went hungry—this method of fishing, consuming extraordinary power, could only be performed five or six times a day even if Natalia and all the others joined in; bad luck meant nothing to eat.
Ronin gazed at the magic circle reappearing before him; he knew its value was incalculable.
Perhaps, the most valuable thing within this cave was none other than this very circle.
“Teleportation… should belong to spatial magic, wouldn’t you say?”
The seven gods commonly spoken of represented the seven elements: earth, wind, water, fire, lightning, light, and darkness.
Ronin had never heard of a spatial magic user before. (End of chapter)
