Chapter 271: Taking Down Boulder Castle
The defensive capabilities of Boulder Keep were formidable indeed. With the drawbridge raised, any professional knight attempting a charge against the gates would inevitably be subjected to a devastating barrage from the defenders atop the ramparts.
Yet, relying on the magic cannon, Ronin could launch an assault on the stronghold's gates from over a hundred meters away.
"Boom, rumble..."
The colossal impact made the very earth tremble. The soldiers upon the walls were thrown off balance, shaken to their very souls.
Behind the castle gates, the knights who were bracing against the iron barrier with massive beams bore the brunt of the strike; the sheer kinetic force of the magic cannon's single blast knocked them off their feet in chaotic ruin.
"Hold the line!"
Brissot roared at the top of his lungs, commanding the castle knights to guard the entrance once more as he seized an iron beam himself to prop against it.
"The magic cannon drains a knight's combat aura heavily. They can only manage two or three shots at most. If we endure this, we win!"
Two or three shots?
If Rydal were alone, he would indeed be limited to three blasts to preserve a sufficient reserve of combat aura.
However, Rydal was far from the only fire-attribute Silver Knight present; both Marvin and Toru shared that distinction.
A Silver Peak Knight could fire this magic cannon three to five times, to say nothing of Toru, a genuine Gold-tier powerhouse.
"Quick, quick, let me take a couple of turns."
Marvin rubbed his palms together, nudging Rydal aside, while Toru approached with keen interest.
Boom! Boom!
One shot, two shots, three shots...
No matter how sturdy the iron gates of Boulder Keep were, they could not withstand the continuous bombardment of sixth-tier magic.
Finally, after the fourth detonation, the iron doors could no longer endure the titanic impact. Tearing free from the stone walls, they were blasted inward into the castle courtyard by a scorching wave of air.
The knights positioned behind the gates were thrown through the air; some were crushed instantly beneath the iron doors, while others crashed heavily to the ground, unable to rise again.
"It is breached!"
Spirits surged through the ranks.
Ronin drew his Flame Flow Sword, his voice echoing across the battlefield: "Charge!"
Though the drawbridge had been raised by Coreyn, a width of a dozen meters was no obstacle for professional knights; they could clear it in a single leap.
"Kill!"
Viscount Marvin’s body erupted with the glow of combat aura armor. Bending his knees, he lunged off the ground, launching himself forward like a cannonball to land heavily on the opposite side.
He was not alone; Toru, Taren, Philip, and Thorstein moved almost in unison.
A crowd of Bronze and Advanced Knights ignited their own combat aura armor and followed closely behind.
Aptop the ramparts, Coreyn grew pale, never imagining the situation would deteriorate so abruptly.
He had observed the contingents from Wushan Castle and the Northern Territory, yet he had seen no sign of a weapon like a magic cannon. How had they suddenly produced such a monstrosity?
The shattering of the gates dealt a heavy blow to Coreyn, pushing him to the brink of doom.
He knew full well that without the castle's defenses, he lacked the leverage to contend with the noble coalition.
The battle was lost.
Yet, he refused to surrender.
Coreyn grabbed a longbow, notched an arrow, and unleashed a magical shaft that flew like a bolt of lightning. Though the arrowhead veered slightly, it still pierced an Advanced Knight's shoulder, pinning him to the ground.
"Everyone
Since we cannot butcher the noble coalition, then you shall die instead!
To take Ronin’s life had been part of their plan from the very beginning.
Boulder Castle was utterly finished now; relying on them to unite with Red Mountain Town and slaughter the noble alliance was a lost cause.
Thus, Brissot resolved to slay Ronin before making his retreat.
In doing so, this alliance would at least bear some small fruit.
A Golden Knight was a presence capable of taking the enemy commander's head from the midst of ten thousand soldiers, and Brissot indeed possessed such confidence.
"Not good, he wants to kill Ronin!"
Marvin and the others turned pale with fright.
Torru had already rushed onto the battlements to hunt for Corian, leaving them alone to intercept this Golden Knight.
"Stop him!"
The four of them instantly lunged toward Brissot.
"A pack of Silvers thinks they can keep pace with my speed?"
Brissot glanced disdainfully at his pursuers, darting and weaving through the chaotic throng until he burst through the castle gates, carving his way across the drawbridge, only to find the knight at Ronin's side lunging toward him.
"Get out of my way!"
Brissot thrust his sword forward, intent on piercing Rydal's heart.
Battle qi erupted across Rydal’s body like armor as he raised his blade to parry.
A resounding clash echoed, and the battle qi exploded into a violent tempest that swept across the battlefield, forcing the surrounding infantry to stumble backward.
Brissot’s strength was formidable, forcing even Rydal to recoil, yet the momentum of his assault was effectively shattered.
"A Silver, and at the peak no less?"
Brissot inwardly cursed Ronin's deceitfulness; this Silver Knight had never been registered and belonged entirely to his hidden forces.
Seeing this display, Marvin and the others revealed looks of sheer surprise.
They had suspected this man was concealing his true strength ever since he operated the magic cannon, and now those suspicions were vindicated.
"Even at the peak of the Silver rank, do not dream of stopping me!"
Brissot roared furiously, attempting to break through Rydal's defense, but he was arrested in his tracks by the latter’s relentless, continuous counter-offensive.
This brief delay allowed the four pursuing knights to swiftly close the distance and surround him.
Even as a Golden Knight, Brissot found it difficult to ward off five Silvers simultaneously, and he was quickly brought low.
On the other front, Corian was simply no match for Torru.
After a mere two or three exchanges, one of his hands was severed, and he was captured alive by Torru.
With the two strongest men of Boulder Castle captured one after another, this siege had drawn to its final close.
