Chapter 519: Joyful News
In earlier years, when Ronin was still the Baron of Shanlin Town, he had established an annual martial tournament at year’s end. Though many years had passed and Ronin’s forces continued to expand, this tradition had never ceased.
Yet due to the growing number and wide dispersion of knights, Ridal and others decided that each regional knighthood would hold their own contests.
Thus, at this very moment, whether in Misthaven, Wubei Territory, or Zilei Domain, grand tournaments flourished with great festivity.
Ronin and Blanche watched the final match from the stands of Misthaven’s training grounds—battles ranging from novice knights to Shooting Star Knights, all roaring with excitement.
“I never thought Placido could push Ainelu this far. I half-suspected his title as a Shooting Star Knight was just for show!”
Ronin commented from the viewing platform, observing the duel below.
As Sophia’s personal guard, Ainelu was not only a Shooting Star Knight but also Chief Mage.
It was precisely through the masterful fusion of these two strengths that she subdued Placido and claimed victory in the final.
Ridal chuckled. “You feel that way because during the assault on Watchward Fortress, Placido offered no resistance against us.”
Blanche smiled lightly. “So… it’s not that he’s weak, but rather that you’re too strong?”
Ridal gave a gentle nod. “My lady speaks truly.”
Macken approached. “My lord, it’s time for you to present the awards to the champions!”
Ronin rose with a smile and walked down toward the podium.
To elevate the knights’ regard for the competition, he had specially crafted gold, silver, and bronze medals for the top three finishers.
After all, for some, a token of honor meant far more than wealth.
After the lively matches came an even livelier banquet.
Ronin made his rounds, then excused himself early and returned to his chambers.
“Why back so soon? The feast hasn’t ended yet, has it?”
Blanche asked, helping him off with his coat.
“Not by far. Ridal especially loves his drink—he’s still toasting with the knights.”
Once a knight reached the Gold rank, ordinary alcohol could no longer intoxicate them.
Still, some savored the sensation of drinking, deliberately refraining from dispelling its effects.
Like Ridal, who dulled his nerves to maintain a pleasant, tipsy haze—yet remained lucid when needed. It was a kind of indulgence.
Ronin hung his coat aside and drew Blanche close.
“This is your first New Year spent away from home. I worried you might grow bored, so I left early to keep you company.”
Touched, Blanche took the coat back down. “It means a lot that you think of me, but you should spend time with your men. Future wars will be fought by them; the lands we conquer will be governed by them.”
“We’ve come this far—there’s no turning back now.”
He swept her into his arms. “Right now, I’d rather cherish every moment with you.”
Blanche wrapped her arms around his neck, her head resting against his chest. “I want that too. But not tonight. To be precise—not for the next while.”
Hmm?
Ronin frowned. “What’s wrong? Is it your cycle? But I remember—it’s not due yet.”
“I have good news,” she whispered, lifting her head to murmur in his ear. “I’m pregnant, Ronin. We’re going to have a child.”
Ronin froze. Then his eyes widened, joy bursting forth. “Truly?”
Blanche nodded softly. “I’ve felt the change within me.”
“Let me see!”
He gently laid her on the bed, placing his palm over her abdomen, sending his spiritual sense deep inside.
And there it was—the unmistakable presence of new life stirring within her.
In that instant, he was enveloped by pure elation.
“Ha! Brilliant, Blanche—you’re incredible!”
He kissed her cheek fiercely, hand tenderly stroking her belly. “No heartbeat yet—the conception must be less than a month old.”
He calculated the time. It must have happened about ten days ago.
Had Blanche not been an advanced mage with formidable spiritual awareness, she likely wouldn’t have sensed it yet.
Holding her hand, he spoke gently. “Even though you’re a high-level mage, you mustn’t overexert yourself from now on. Delegate all duties in the territory. Focus solely on nurturing our little one.”
“I know.”
Blanche nodded, her face glowing with happiness. “But my body and spirit are strong. Handling light matters won’t be a problem.”
After all, they were both beyond mortal limits—far from fragile.
“Hmm…”
Ronin stroked his chin. “The enemy shows no sign of attack now, but Misthaven remains a frontline fortress—war could erupt at any moment. You can’t stay here.”
He stood, pondering deeply.
“Return to Wubei. It’s our rear stronghold, guarded by Belora, Simon, Elron, and Carlos—utterly secure.”
Especially Elron. With that supreme physician present, any emergency could be handled.
Blanche blinked. “Is it really necessary? I’d rather stay with you.”
“I won’t risk your safety.”
Having lived two lifetimes, this was Ronin’s first time becoming a father. Amidst his excitement was deep trepidation. Protecting Blanche was paramount.
“At my current strength, I can return to Wubei swiftly without relying on Carlos. So don’t worry about missing me. And if need be, I’ll leave Misthaven under Ridal and Macken’s command and remain in Wubei myself.”
“Alright then. I’ll follow your arrangement.”
Blanche sat up, leaning into his embrace. Nothing brought her greater joy than being cherished by the one she loved.
The next day, Ronin departed Misthaven with Blanche.
On passing through Wushan Fortress, they paid a brief New Year’s visit to Rulans and Vincents, offering greetings for the new year—and sharing the news of Blanche’s pregnancy.
Hearing such joyful tidings on the first day of the year sent Rulans into raptures.
When he learned Ronin intended to send Blanche to Wubei for rest, the old man nearly dispatched an entire knightly regiment for her protection. Only after much persuasion from both Ronin and Blanche did he finally relent.
In the early stages, only the inner circle knew of the pregnancy. Sending a full knightly escort would be excessive, drawing unwanted attention.
Unable to assign guards, Rulans instead arranged for several trusted, capable maids—women experienced in caring for expectant mothers.
In short, everyone rejoiced at the prospect of new life within the Wushan lineage.
Even Vincents, usually reserved, found himself delighted at the thought of becoming a grandfather.
Ronin pondered whether to share the news with Bruno.
Though the child was born of him and Blanche, it was also a living testament to the bond between the Oduin and Wushan houses.
Even Garrett, despite strained relations, might welcome the child’s safe arrival.
Yet after careful consideration, Ronin abandoned the idea of sending word.
There will be time to talk when we meet; it's not too late then.
For the next few days, he busied himself with arranging Branqi’s residence, servants, and all manner of tedious matters.
Meanwhile, after days of tireless effort and persuasion, Garrett finally succeeded in convincing Count Ural and the other captives, turning the group into his loyal followers.
In the grand hall of Audoin, Bruno listened to Broll’s report and nodded with satisfaction.
“We can grant Count Ural and his people land, wealth, and power. Their decision to follow Garrett is a wise one.”
With a smile, he said, “Tell Garrett to bring his new followers to the Audoin Hall tomorrow. I shall bestow titles upon them myself.” (End of Chapter)
