Chapter 217: Studio Bug

Chapter 217: Studio Rat

After the meal, Chen Daqiang and Xing Tage, who were already fans of Su Qingcen thanks to Meng Fan’s endless recommendations, had completely transformed into obsessed devotees.

"Brother Shan Jin looks even better in person than on screen!"

"How can one person have such flawless skin?"

"Watch your language—is that even a person? That is a goddess!"

"Exactly! How could a mere mortal possess such skin, such elegance, and such a smile?"

"And tell me, how can someone as big a star as Brother Shan Jin be so incredibly approachable?"

Listening to the two of them gushing like schoolgirls after Su Qingcen had left, Meng Fan was speechless. Why was she so approachable? Did they really have no self-awareness at all?

"Qiangzi and I are heading to the Cultural Park. What about you?"

"You two go ahead; I’ll drive over and drop you off."

Xing Tage’s car had been parked near the Huanglong Sports Center since last night. He drove it over, dropped Meng Fan and Chen Daqiang at the Cultural Park, and hurried away.

Meng Fan was a partner at Damei Studio. Zhang Zhouwei was often tethered there helping out because of Wang Yanan, and Chen Daqiang had been spending most of his time there lately for the post-production of Meng Fan’s manga. Xing Tage felt that if he stayed in the dorm alone, he would surely be the last one left behind.

"Boss Meng, what brings you here today?"

Qin Jiu couldn't be at the studio every day, so the daily operations were managed by Wang Yanan and a senior alumna.

The alumna, Yan Xixi, had graduated three years ago. Unlike the other members, she had been personally invited by Qin Jiu. She was already a well-known illustrator in the industry who could have thrived on her own.

She joined because of her friendship with Qin Jiu and her own ambition to gain management experience for a future studio of her own.

"I have a meeting in the park, so I thought I’d drop by to inspect the work."

Meng Fan chatted cheerfully about the studio’s recent progress, focusing on the novel illustrations and his manga post-production—the studio’s two "major projects."

After a while, the milk tea and coffee Meng Fan had ordered arrived. He chatted a bit longer, checked the time, and left the studio.

The person Meng Fan was meeting that afternoon was Director Charlie, whose dubbing studio was located right within this same Cultural Park.

Following the address, he soon arrived. He paused when he saw the studio’s name hanging on the door.

Chocolate Factory!

Was it named after the film *Charlie and the Chocolate Factory*?

Or perhaps the saying, "Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get"?

Dubbing was much the same—you never know what kind of surprise the next character will bring!

Meng Fan blinked. Was his associative power really that strong? Did it have something to do with his increased imagination?

"Hello, are you looking for someone?"

"Hello, I have an appointment with Director Charlie."

"This way, please."

A young man with a thick beard led Meng Fan inside, glancing back curiously every few steps. Finally, he couldn't help but ask, "Are you... that manga artist Meng Fan who sings so well?"

Meng Fan smiled. "I suppose so."

The bearded young man was thrilled. "I’m a fan of yours!"

Meng Fan was taken aback. That was quite a leap in conversation.

"Little brother."

Soon, Meng Fan met Director Charlie.

The director’s hair seemed much thicker and no longer messy—presumably a wig. As for the scratches on his face, they were still visible if one looked closely.

"Coffee or tea?"

Charlie’s office was spacious, though it looked more like a businessman’s office than that of a voice director.

After pouring the tea, Charlie got straight to the point. "Here’s the thing: your voice has a charming quality, but it carries such a strong 'leading man' aura that, even though I’ve kept your recordings, I haven't found a suitable role. To be honest, you have no dubbing experience, so it’s very difficult to land a lead role based on a demo."

"However, because of the ring incident, I looked you up. I watched your streams and heard you sing; your voice has great plasticity. I asked you here to see if you’d be interested in roles other than the leading man."

Charlie’s reasoning was simple. He knew Meng Fan was talented in streaming and basketball machines, so he worried Meng Fan might be arrogant and only interested in lead roles. But after meeting him briefly, he felt Meng Fan was easy to get along with, so he decided to ask directly.

If Meng Fan insisted on lead roles or overnight fame, they would just be acquaintances; there would be no future in dubbing. At least not yet—unless Meng Fan became so famous that people would cast him as a lead regardless of his lack of experience.

Meng Fan was stunned. "Are you saying my submissions were ignored because they were all skewed toward 'leading man' roles?"

Seeing Charlie nod, Meng Fan slapped his forehead. He finally understood why his submissions had vanished into the void despite his "Presence" buff. So that was the reason!

He was lucky his "Luck +1" effect had led him to Director Charlie; otherwise, he would never have known why he failed.

"That’s my lack of experience! I only sent what I thought I was good at, never realizing that was the issue. I have no requirements for the role—I truly love this. Lead, supporting, even a bit part is fine," Meng Fan said honestly.

Charlie realized his assessment was correct and didn't dwell on it. After a few more words, he said, "Our studio mainly handles animation and games. I have a few roles in mind that suit your voice. Interested in a trial?"

Beyond the good impression from the ring incident, Charlie was drawn to the charm of Meng Fan’s voice. Despite the lack of experience, Charlie trusted his instincts: Meng Fan’s voice was an untapped treasure.

"Let’s head to the recording booth."

Charlie took Meng Fan to an empty booth and called the bearded young man to assist.

"I’ve heard your song *The Rest of My Life*. It’s soulful and warm. These two roles require a warm tone. Take a look, and we’ll start in five minutes. That’s fine, right?"

Since it was for a game, there wasn't much plot to worry about—just the character profile.

"Dreams are guiding the way."

The first line was simple, just five words.

"Huh?!"

As soon as Charlie heard it, goosebumps broke out all over his body.

Meng Fan was also startled. With his newly added 2 points of "Voice Infectivity," he had truly unleashed his potential to the fullest.

"Meng Fan, make the breath a bit softer."

"Draw out the sound of 'guiding' just a little more."

"Alright, let’s record a formal take."

"Perfect! That’s the one!"

Though shocked by the texture of Meng Fan’s voice, Charlie still pushed for perfection.

As he finalized the take, a notification chimed in Meng Fan’s mind.

"Ding! Achievement quest [Studio Rat] triggered."
