Chapter 125: 125, Forced by life
This time, Ren Xiaosu had ulterior motives in saving Luolan—to breach the 109th Wall through him!
The scene of Luolan living in harmony with the soldiers had been etched in Ren Xiaosu’s mind, and he could sense the Qing Clan Consortium’s combatants’ support for Luolan and Qing Zhen. Such a person must possess extraordinary qualities.
Thus, Ren Xiaosu pondered whether this life-saving grace could dissolve past grievances. If not, he could always kill Luolan himself later.
He had considered concealing his identity, perhaps using another name, but dismissed the idea—Luolan had seen Yan Liuyuan and Xiao Yu Jie!
“Brother, lend a hand!” Luolan wiped his face and said, “I can’t get out myself.”
Ren Xiaosu dragged Luolan from the car: “Quickly, the experiment subjects are about to breach the line.”
After speaking, Luolan wrenched free from Ren Xiaosu’s grip, staring blankly toward Tang Zhou’s group, where they were nearly submerged by the experiment subjects.
Gunfire erupted along the defensive line, punctuated by grenade explosions. The experiment subjects, for a moment, could not break through the Qing Clan Consortium’s defenses.
This battle alone demonstrated the exceptional combat prowess of the Qing Clan’s fighters!
Ren Xiaosu spoke calmly, “They’re doomed. If you rush back now, their deaths will be in vain.”
Luolan inhaled deeply: “No, thank you for saving me, but I can’t leave!”
Ren Xiaosu saw Luolan genuinely cared for these soldiers—otherwise, he wouldn’t have instinctively checked on them when he heard the experiment subjects were breaking through.
This contradicted Ren Xiaosu’s perception of the consortium as cold, aloof beings.
Chen Wudi turned to Ren Xiaosu and asked, “Bajie and the others have fled far. What do we do now?”
“We leave,” Ren Xiaosu glanced at Luolan, ready to abandon him. Luolan was already sprinting toward the defensive line. He wouldn’t accompany Luolan to die just to breach the wall.
Ren Xiaosu noticed Luolan’s fear—anyone would fear, given the refugees’ total annihilation, with only a few survivors. This place had become a death zone.
But he couldn’t fathom why this fat man could overcome fear to return and die. This wasn’t for show; going back meant certain death!
Just as they prepared to leave, a wolf’s howl pierced the sky from afar!
The howl was jarring, and Ren Xiaosu’s heart sank—was this another misfortune?
To his surprise, the experiment subjects gradually ceased their assault, retreating swiftly within a minute, leaving the battlefield.
What was happening? Ren Xiaosu stood frozen, puzzled—were these subjects afraid of wolves?
He had assumed the wolves’ arrival would worsen their plight, but they instead counterbalanced the experiment subjects!
Ren Xiaosu didn’t wish to know the truth between the wolves and the subjects. He only wanted to reach the 109th Wall safely.
He told Chen Wudi, “Wudi, go stop Wang Fugui and the others…”
Chen Wudi paused: “Who’s Wang Fugui?”
“Go stop Bajie and the others… Don’t come back. If anything happens, keep fleeing,” Ren Xiaosu corrected.
How could they not even mention the ‘dharma name’?
Chen Wudi scurried off, and Ren Xiaosu followed Luolan back to the Qing Clan’s base.
“Boss, why are you back?” Tang Zhou gasped, leaning against a corpse: “Leave quickly—they might return soon.”
Luolan crouched beside Tang Zhou, surveying the area. The soldiers who had fled with him from the wall were nearly all dead.
The remaining five or six were gravely wounded, unlikely to survive, let alone reach Wall 109.
The experiment subjects’ brutality was shocking.
Luolan crouched by Tang Zhou and asked, “Is there anything you need to settle?”
Tang Zhou smiled: “You said we’d visit Wall 109 to experience the world. We probably won’t make it. When the time comes, boss, play it back for us.”
Luolan sighed, “Then I’ll probably die inside Wall 109…”
Both laughed, as if sharing a grim joke.
Suddenly, Tang Zhou said, “We don’t regret it.”
“Mm,” Luolan murmured.
“Wait,” Ren Xiaosu interrupted, unable to contain himself: “These people don’t have to die.”
Tang Zhou and Luolan froze, lifting their heads to stare at Ren Xiaosu. Tang Zhou laughed, “Young brother, don’t joke. My blood won’t stop flowing.”
But Ren Xiaosu ignored them, pulling out a small porcelain bottle: “My medicine for external wounds is unparalleled. Rest assured, you won’t die—but I won’t heal for free.”
Ren Xiaosu looked at Luolan: “In return, I need you to take us into Wall 109, granting us legal residency.”
Luolan didn’t heed the latter part, fixating on the black medicine in Ren Xiaosu’s hand—the porcelain bottle felt oddly familiar…
Luolan’s expression shifted from calm to shock: “This can heal wounds?! Wait—you’re the Miraculous Hands of Spring, Ren Xiaosu!”
What the hell, Miraculous Hands of Spring! Recalling the battle flag, Ren Xiaosu nearly kicked Luolan to the ground!
After all, Ren Xiaosu was now a wanted man by the Qing Clan. Luolan never expected him here, let alone saving him.
Suddenly, Luolan remembered someone mentioning Ren Xiaosu was a doctor in the settlement—this gave him hope!
Seeing Tang Zhou and the others needing Ren Xiaosu’s aid, Luolan abandoned his identity, cozying up to him: “With our connection, you can let as many people into the wall as you want!”
Ren Xiaosu paused: “What connection?”
Luolan was stumped, finally blurting, “Doctor-patient relationship…”
Ren Xiaosu wordlessly tossed three small bottles of black medicine to Luolan: “Apply them to their wounds.”
Luolan hesitated: “No side effects?”
“None. Hurry—if the experiment subjects or wolves come, none of us will survive,” Ren Xiaosu snapped. In truth, treating Tang Zhou’s group would bind Luolan to him. Though the jeep had overturned, the truck remained intact.
Once Tang Zhou’s group recovered, they could drive the truck, escorting Yan Liuyuan and the others.
This would ease everyone’s burden.
“Wait,” Ren Xiaosu suddenly recalled: “You won’t try to capture me after they heal, will you?”
“No, no,” Luolan quickly shook his head: “Our main target is Xu Xianchu. You’re just a bonus.”
Ren Xiaosu’s face twisted: “That’s good…”
He could only mutter inwardly, “Xu Xianchu, my brother—I’m sorry!”
Though this might betray Xu Xianchu, what could Ren Xiaosu do? Wasn’t this survival’s necessity?
