Chapter 626 – The Long Night Fades (Chapter Five)
“Come with me!” the call echoed, relentless, as a multitude of figures emerged from the swirling waters, their voices rising like a tide. The crowd surged forward, flooding the narrow corridor lined with the towering presence of the sacrificial altar.
Xu Qianlong leaped over the outer wall, his body arcing through the air in a vertical leap, landing with a thud just short of the altar’s edge. From there, he was engulfed by a vortex, emerging moments later clutching the altar’s wooden box.
“Give your master a death!” Xu roared, his voice cracking with fury. With a swift motion, he thrust his blade straight at the head of his opponent.
Crack!
A burst of azure lightning erupted beneath him, striking the blade with force. The energy sent shockwaves through the air, and with a final, decisive strike, Xu sent his adversary flying across the chamber.
Thud!
The sound of shattering bricks and the acrid scent of burning wood filled the chamber as Xu’s shadow fell over the scene. One blade, a single hand, and a desperate cry echoed through the air—his left arm lay shattered, his fate sealed.
“Get your mother’s ass!” Xu bellowed, his anger boiling over.
His blade flashed in the dim light, its edge gleaming, as if testing the air around him. Yet even in that moment, it remained steadfast, refusing to yield. With a swift motion, he swung the blade in a wide arc, sending it careening toward Xu’s face.
Ping!
The blade struck with a thunderous impact, sending a shower of sparks into the air. A cascade of fireworks erupted, their bright sparks illuminating the chaos.
Crack!
Two silhouettes crashed into the ground, their bodies crumpling. The wind howled through the ruins, scattering embers and ash. In the chaos, Xu stood alone, his blade still raised, his expression unreadable.
With a final, defiant thrust, his blade pierced the chest of Xu Qianlong, anchoring him to the ground.
Xu gripped the blade tightly, his hands trembling as he stared at the fallen warrior. His own blade, a slender etching of the five stars, gleamed in the dim light.
“Wait up!” Xu called out, his voice barely above a whisper. “You know, today you’ll be the one who walks alone.”
The altar trembled as the wind howled through the ruins, carrying with it the echoes of battle and the promise of a new dawn.
A hard implant placed in the neck scrapes against the walls, and a wave of genuine, unvarnished pain constantly reminds Li Caijian of a reality.
He has already implanted a spirit, sacrificing his pure flesh in the process.
“Since you insist on seeking your own demise, I will fulfill you. I will rip you apart, dismember you, and hang you on the highest floor of Chengdu’s city, so that those acrobatic performers in the Dragon Throne’s domain know—there is no qualification for such a spectacle!”
“Do you think playing these old tricks will make the Sage of the Dao completely surrender here?”
The rogue’s brow furrows, watching the crimson-eyed face of the former lord, whose disdain stirs his irritation.
“What are you talking about? You’re full of nonsense!”
With a forceful thrust into the blazing flame, Li Caijian feels the hard palm of the spirit claw into his chest, forcing him to stagger back.
“Ah!”
Suddenly, the rogue screams, his form shattering as a massive wound splits his body.
Pff!
Li Caijian rises, striking the rogue’s chest with a determined blow, driving him back.
Hmph.
Meanwhile, the spirit’s blade trembled, its flickering fire carrying a tone of concern.
“Hold on! You don’t want to break your mind too easily. If you’re that reckless, you’ll end up like that fool!”
The spirit’s cold breath lingered at the edges of Li Caijian’s vision, promising him a fate of brotherly vengeance.
“Forget the illusion, don’t let this simple trick fool you. If you’re foolish enough to play with the Sage of the Dao, you’ll pay the price.”
The spirit vanished into the shadows, leaving behind a single message etched in the dust of history: “The Dragon Throne’s power is eternal, but so too is the will of those who dare to challenge it.”
