Chapter 716: Author's Postscript
Chapter 716: Afterword
From May 2023 to November 2024, Wenxi's first book has finally stumbled its way to completion.
There are many problems, significant flaws, so this is less a reflection and more a letter of apology, to be precise.
First, about the ending.
From when I uploaded it at noon until now, Wenxi hasn't dared to open the comments; I snuck a glance and saw a chorus of scolding.
First, let me apologize to you esteemed readers. (Stop scolding, stop scolding.)
Many friends in the group chat said the ending was too rushed.
Actually, I have my own thoughts on that.
In my vision, Li Jun was just a martial man; his initial goal was simply to survive. But as he met more and more people, he found more and more things he couldn't bear to part with, and was reluctantly drawn into Zhang Fengyue's revolution.
Yes, in my view, he didn't truly want to be part of it.
But he saw too much enslavement and injustice, forcing him to stand up and resist.
This might also be Li Jun's instinct as a transmigrator.
But what he has done here is already enough.
Going forward, how the Sequence develops, where the Great Ming goes, who takes over the mess, what world the future becomes—these should not be his concerns.
If the story were continued, it would no longer be about Li Jun.
He merely ignited many sparks; how they will set the prairie ablaze should rest with Zhang Siyuan, Yang Baize, Zhao Qingxia, Chen Qisheng, Zou Sijiu, and the others.
So Wenxi chose to stop here.
Of course!
If you scold, there must be reasons; if I didn't satisfy you, it's Wenxi's fault. I'll stand straight and take the criticism, never talk back.
......
Second, about the process.
At the start, Wenxi didn't really know what story he would write, nor how to write it.
To get the contract signed, I simply threw everything together.
So many readers initially called it a stitch monster, borrowing a bit from here and there; they were right.
But this created an irreparable congenital defect in the book.
Problem One: Decline in story quality.
The reason is there was no outline; I wrote every day after work, often knowing the plot only a few hours ahead of the readers.
This is the main reason many readers reported the story went off track and quality declined after the Japan region.
In short, it was poor planning.
It's also a lack of ability; having never written something this long, by the later parts I didn't know how to continue and could only let the characters' personalities roam freely.
Problem Two: Rough sequence setup.
Many times, a name change meant promotion, with no changes described or abilities clarified. The crucial rituals were also written indistinctly.
I'm aware of these flaws; I tried to go back and fix them, but too much was missing, and it became too deep to salvage.
Problem Three: Proficiency point data errors.
This is purely a personal shortcoming; I truly can't calculate it clearly.
Problem Four: Too few updates, too many leave requests.
This is because it's a side project, and my typing speed is slow, so the update count never increased.
Even when the book was on promotional slots, I sometimes took leave and didn't update. Thinking about it now, I'm sick with regret.
From now on, Wenxi will sleep less and work more; if I can update a thousand more, I'll never update just five hundred!
......
Third, about the beginning.
When I wrote the line, "When the first drop of night rain fell from the sky, Chengdu Prefecture in the southwestern region of the Great Ming Empire finally began to awaken," last May, I never imagined I could write a book with nearly ten thousand subscriptions (9950 average subscriptions, very frustrating). There's nothing more to say, only gratitude.
Wenxi, together with Old Li, Old Chen, and Old Zou, thanks you, esteemed readers, for your support.
I also hope you will continue to support Wenxi in the next book; I will certainly build on the strengths and do my best to make up for the weaknesses.
During this year and a half, if Wenxi wrote anything that dissatisfied you, I hope you can be lenient.
If any story made you smile knowingly, then Wenxi is fully content.
One last line, borrowing a movie quote often used in this book.
You are very important to me.
