Chapter 339: New Errand (Bonus Chapter 19 for Average Subscriptions)
For the initial minor errands, there was nothing amiss with Boss Fang steering clear of the offline mode, but it was clear that the Fleeca Job was merely an introductory tutorial of relatively simple difficulty; the subsequent assignments would require players to operate a vast assortment of instruments, where not only driving, but piloting airplanes and helicopters would become matters of routine, while various disparate skills would also have to be mastered.
Thus, even Boss Fang found himself with no choice but to retreat to the offline mode to catch up on his lessons.
Take, for instance, the impending Prison Break, while the Humane Labs Raid would demand the piloting of a Valkyrie helicopter and a Hydra fighter jet, essentially requiring the players to possess the prowess to ascend to the heavens and plunge into the earth.
As a man who only knew how to drive an ordinary automobile, it was naturally impossible for Boss Fang to master such contraptions without a period of rigorous practice.
Of course, as far as the online mode was concerned, such errands were by no means the only way to amass wealth; should one be inclined, they could even dabble in the stock market, acquire real estate, engage in underground racing, and the like.
Playing the stock market was not merely tethered to the economic system of the in-game characters; the financial flow of the players themselves would likewise influence the rise and fall of the stocks.
As for acquiring real estate, one could rent out properties to act as a landlord, or perhaps purchase an abandoned factory or a hangar to engage in the arms trade; how one chose to proceed naturally depended entirely on one's personal proclivities.
In truth, the system version of the game was far more liberated than many could ever conceive; for example, it was not out of the question to procure a storefront and conduct some honest business, and no one would bar a player from directing movies to become a celebrity within the game.
Michael, for instance, one of the three protagonists, had indeed starred in a film.
Naturally, the prerequisite for all of this was the possession of sufficient capital, while simultaneously ensuring that one would not incur a loss or suffer a complete disaster.
Consequently, the most secure path remained these "special" errands undertaken by Boss Fang.
After all, if one perished, one could simply begin anew, whereas a financial loss afforded no such recourse.
Therefore, in order to freely roam the skies and earth in the online mode thereafter, Boss Fang commenced his journey into the offline mode at this very juncture.
The entire narrative progression of the offline mode, irrespective of its amusement, featured three characters who could be described as uniquely distinctive and thoroughly dramatic.
The tale of three men and a dog comprised Trevor, who had returned from a flight following that incident nine years prior, somewhat neurotic yet fiercely loyal; Michael, ensnared in a midlife crisis; and Franklin, who was ordered about each day to perform trivial tasks such as grand theft auto (coercive repossession), yearning to rise above the life of a petty thug, and frequently accompanied by a Rottweiler.
When three such extraordinarily dramatic personas collided, it was glaringly obvious that some intensely dramatic events would unfold.
For example, when Franklin went to Michael's residence to repossess Michael's son's vehicle, he chanced upon the tennis coach and Michael's wife entangled in an affair, an incident that left Michael thoroughly cuckolded.
(A touch of ambiguous plotting, do not let your thoughts stray.)
Thus occurred the dramatic acquaintance between the old fox Michael and young Franklin.
Thereafter, an enraged Michael, upon learning the truth, mistakenly demolished the villa of a certain mafia boss.
Even later, in order to prevent his daughter from entering the adult entertainment industry, he charged single-handedly onto a luxury cruise ship.
Trevor and Michael would unexpectedly mend their broken bonds to collaborate once more, and so forth.
A series of diverse incidents unfolded; perhaps one could say that eccentric people lead eccentric lives, but it could also be viewed as observing the entire world from a highly peculiar vantage point.
And while Boss Fang was engrossed in these missions, the contingent of players within the shop engaging with this game was also gradually multiplying; setting aside the former enthusiasts of counter-terrorism and resident evil who came to sample this brand-new title, the artifact masters like Li Haoran and Jun Yangzi, who had already begun researching firearms, were a given.
Because the disparity in levels exerted no overbearing influence, many players who frequented "The Legend" would occasionally drop by to try their hand at this game.
The adage that the love of beauty is inherent in women's nature was absolute truth; hence, when most female players amassed some coin, they did not contemplate unlocking subsequent missions, nor did they balance both, but rather chose to adorn themselves first.
Take Su Tianji, for example; at this moment, she had not merely purchased a submachine gun, but had also acquired several sets of interchangeable raiment.
Fang Qi felt that if her funds were not so sorely lacking, the acquisition of a designer outfit or two would have been an inevitability.
Yet even with modern attire, long robes and sweeping skirts remained the preferred choice for this crowd.
"Master! Look at the garments in this boutique, which one looks more pleasing to the eye?" In any case, the wealth had been acquired through highway robbery and was not to be grieved over; Su Tianji was already seen leading her two disciples into a clothing store.
As for Liu Ningyun, having finally earned some coin amidst many stumbles, she drove an initial sedan, clad in a cerulean floral long dress and a white blouse, wearing a pair of large dark sunglasses, occasionally driving down to the coastal scenic belt to catch the breeze.
In the game, discarding those errands and missions once in a while to drive about aimlessly, to gaze upon scenery unattainable in their own world, and to become a connoisseur of vistas was by no means a poor pursuit.
Or perhaps engaging in a race with Mo Xian and several other senior and junior sisters of her sect—who could say this was not a valid way to play?
One manner of living existed in reality, while another entirely different existence unfolded within the game; this was indeed profoundly fresh and intriguing to them.
It was worth mentioning that the characters within the game could elevate various attributes such as strength, stamina, driving, and flying; this phenomenon would likewise reflect upon the players themselves.
Although the elevation of a mortal was but a drop in the ocean compared to a cultivator, certain elements were still better than nothing, such as flying and strength.
Daoist Master Xi Chi harbored a deeper interest in this aspect, particularly after hearing that the cultivators of the Wuwei Daoist Alliance had already commenced research into these matters, and had achieved certain results in fusing these iron mechanisms and apparatuses with runes and formations.
Had the sect not been somewhat overwhelmed by certain matters of late, she would likely have dragged several great cultivators of the Nanhua Sect along with her at this very moment.
While these maidens were inspecting garments and touring the metropolis, and the male cultivators were researching various armaments, Boss Fang was already standing inside the vehicle dealership, purchasing an Armored Kuruma.
Barely capable of piloting various mechanical devices, Boss Fang hollered, "Is anyone available to take on a new errand?"
"A new errand?"
"What is that?!"
One must realize that many individuals across both shops had not even thoroughly deciphered the Fleeca Job at this time, yet the proprietor was already shouting for a new errand?
Liu Ningyun presumably desired to purchase a sports car, so this wealth still had to be acquired.
In fact, she had already met the prerequisites to undertake the new errand: "I have received a new errand and have already commenced it with my Master and sisters. Boss, look for someone else."
Sitting near Boss Fang today, Liu Ningyun clearly paid his offer no heed.
"The four of you are going to attempt the new errand?"
"Mhm!" Liu Ningyun spoke as if it were a matter of course, "We are all veteran drivers now, and the Fleeca Job was an absolute breeze. Is there an issue?"
"..." One must know that the Fleeca Job was entirely Lester's benevolent accommodation for novices, which was why its difficulty was so trivial.
Boss Fang inquired tentatively, "Would you care to start over?"
"Why should we start over? We are nearly at the destination." Liu Ningyun glared at Boss Fang, "Could it be you think we are incapable of accomplishing it?"
Boss Fang shrugged, his eyes already fixed upon their mission objective: "Steal the Velum."
This was a five-seater airplane, and evidently, an airplane could not possibly be transported by a car; thus, without any need for guesswork, one could deduce that their task was to fly this aircraft away...

PS: Thanks for the reminder, the various attributes in the game can indeed be mentioned.
Uh... updating so early tonight because of insomnia last night, so I pounded out a few more words yesterday evening.
Therefore... off to sleep first, I have become an exceptionally exhausted student now...
