Chapter 815: Li Sui
Chapter 815: Li Sui
"Dad! Dad, where are you?!" Li Sui cried out in despair and anxiety, her eyes scanning frantically around her. This forest was alien to her; all the leaves were red, and she had never been to such a place with her father before. She had no idea where she was.
It was the first time she had truly left Li Huowang, and many of her tentacles had been severed, her body torn apart. Pain and fear gripped her.
Instinctively, she looked down at the young man beneath her, who was coughing up blood. She had seen him before—this boy who had spoken to her just before their departure.
Now, she didn’t have time to wonder why he was here. Seeing that he was dead, Li Sui devoured his internal organs and donned his body, using it to mend her own wounded and frail frame.
With nourishment from the food, her pain lessened slightly, but her predicament remained unresolved.
She looked up at the sky and realized the hole she had fallen through had already closed. Even if she wanted to return, it was impossible now. Her body no longer carried dragon energy—any attempt to go back would be suicide.
After shouting for a while without response, Li Sui began to encourage herself inwardly. “It’s okay. Dad is busy above. Once he finishes, he’ll come down soon. I just need to wait here.”
Her two eyeballs popped out of their sockets and were raised by tentacles toward the heavens. She stared like this for a day and night, yet still saw no sign of Li Huowang.
Even though she was simple-minded, she knew something was wrong.
“Could it be...” Thinking back on Li Huowang's earlier situation, a sense of unease welled up inside her.
“Yes! Dad said he needed dragon energy. He needs dragon energy—I must go get it for him!” Suddenly invigorated, Li Sui ran along a dirt path ahead.
“That big emperor has dragon energy. I need to find him quickly and bring the dragon energy to my dad!” As she spoke, dozens of tentacles emerged from her body, moving rapidly.
Li Huowang never kept anything from her. Though she didn’t understand much, she had heard most of what happened.
When she noticed wheel tracks on the road, Li Sui became excited and immediately followed them.
Soon, a carriage appeared in her sight. She pounced on it and seized the horse pulling it without hesitation.
Then she asked the stunned driver, “Where is there fighting? I want to go there!”
The driver trembled as he answered, “No fighting… nowhere near fighting…”
“How can there be no fighting?! So many people died! Isn’t this Nanping?” Li Sui grew anxious. It didn’t match what she knew at all.
“Nanping? Never heard of it. This is Great Qi!”
A scattered sound of footsteps pulled Li Sui out of her thoughts. She walked to the window and saw children wearing tiger-head caps and tiger-shoe slippers running joyfully through the alleys outside.
Among them, a little girl with pale patches on her face staggered behind, tightly gripping a lit incense stick.
They darted hither and thither, eventually finding their target at the village entrance—a pile of steaming fresh cow dung.
“This isn’t good. Dad said we should collect cow dung and use it to make cow dung cakes for the walls,” one child said.
“Collect dung? Who wants to do that when you can blow it up instead? Everyone move aside! I’m lighting it!”
One child shoved a red firecracker into a pile of cow dung. A bigger kid took the burning incense from the little girl and reached toward the firecracker.
As sparks flared, everyone scattered in panic. Those who moved slowly got splattered with cow dung.
Yet they all continued to enjoy themselves, laughing heartily as the cow dung exploded like fireworks across the air. For children, happiness could be so simple.
This scene was witnessed by Li Huowang, sitting on a roof beam basking in the sun from afar. “Why are there so many kids in the village? Why not play something else?”
Just as the firecracker was lit again, Li Huowang lightly raised his index finger. The firecracker that should have exploded suddenly went silent.
As the children pulled out new firecrackers and prepared to stuff them into the dung, Li Huowang gently lowered his finger. The delayed explosion erupted instantly, sending the children flying in terror, covered head to toe in cow dung.
“Heheh,” Li Huowang chuckled softly, when a large shadow blocked his light from behind.
“Sit down a bit? It’s nice to bask in the sun during snowfall,” Li Huowang patted the ridge of his house to his left.
“Dad, there’s something urgent at the Supervisory Heaven Department. I need to go back and won’t be able to spend time with you and Mom,” Li Sui sat beside Li Huowang, dressed in a red Daoist robe.
“The Supervisory Heaven Department doesn’t even take the New Year holiday? At least wait until Lantern Festival,” Li Huowang replied.
“Although the Law Sect is gone, the timing hasn’t returned yet. The Supervisory Heaven Department in Nanping also needs rebuilding, and…”
“And what?” Li Huowang looked at his daughter.
“And now the Forgetful Dao has returned too. There are too many things to deal with.”
“The Forgetful Dao!” A glint of killing intent flashed in Li Huowang’s eyes. “I’ll handle this myself!”
“Dad, there’s no need for that. As long as the Lie Heaven Dao exists, the Forgetful Dao will never die out. If they overstep, just give them a warning,” Li Sui said calmly.
“But that’s the Forgetful Dao!”
“You can’t destroy the true Heaven Dao just to eliminate the Forgetful Dao, right? As long as the Heaven Dao exists, the Forgetful Dao will always remain.”
Hearing this, Li Huowang narrowed his eyes. The Heaven Dao couldn’t be removed—even the most useless and dangerous one had its value. Losing even one would cause chaos throughout the land. Especially since this Heaven Dao was under his control—the True and False Heaven Dao.
Li Sui continued. “Besides, if we really think about it, you yourself are part of the Forgetful Dao. You can’t cut off your own roots.”
“Don’t talk nonsense. Don’t drag me into it,” Li Huowang frowned, remembering that persistent ghost-like figure. “I couldn’t figure out his intentions before. I never thought he’d use my lies to return.”
Li Sui remained calm in response. “Dad, the Forgetful Dao is indeed troublesome, but ultimately it’s a minor issue.”
“Is it really minor? Don’t forget—it almost stole the Dragon Vein of the Great Liang.”
“He couldn’t steal it. We gave it to him. And if not for his help, how could there have been the Seasonal Calamity? There’s also his karma involved.”
Li Huowang frowned at Li Sui. “Sui Sui, why do you always side with him when speaking?”
