Chapter 959: Enemy Attack

Chapter 959: Enemy Attack

Upon hearing this, Li Huowang’s spirit instantly deflated, leaving him momentarily at a loss for words.

"Forget all that for now, I don't have time to explain! They've already breached our home! Get your gear ready! Move, everyone, move!"

No sooner had the words left Li Huowang’s lips than a faint disturbance echoed from outside the door.

"Shh! Danger is closing in! That was the sound of a chamber being racked." Qing Wanglai’s expression shifted, and he drew his pistol, swiftly disengaging the safety.

"How did we not notice them until now? Why does this madman attract trouble the moment he speaks? What a jinx." Ban Nanxu, chewing on something, stood up from the sofa with a look of annoyance.

Zhao Shuangdian, standing to the side, remained silent, watching Li Huowang with keen interest.

"Li Huowang, your condition is unstable. Stay inside and don't move; I’ll take the others outside." With that, Qing Wanglai grabbed his weapon and led the group toward the main entrance.

Li Huowang sneered, "That’s more like it. At least you’re good for something." He then turned and lunged toward the distant mountain of flesh with his other self.

With them acting as a blockade, at the very least, these two deities would no longer receive reinforcements.

If a deity of the Blessed Heaven thought they could come and go as they pleased in the territory of White Jade Capital, they had clearly mistaken this place for something else.

Yet, it was evident that this manifested deity was formidable; no matter how the two Li Huowangs cultivated or what methods they employed, the hollows continued to spread, and the flesh-worms kept gnawing away at the Tianchen Kingdom.

"Damn it!" The fired-up Li Huowang stopped, pulled out his phone, and dialed Qing Wanglai’s number without hesitation. "Hey! It’s me! Where do you keep the insecticide?"

"Don't ask me why! Just tell me if you have any in the house!"

Receiving a positive answer, Li Huowang tossed the phone aside and bolted for the shoe cabinet.

He pried it open, grabbed the yellow-packaged insecticide, shook it vigorously, and pressed the nozzle with all his might.

"Nana! Follow my lead—bestow death upon these things! We must ensure the deity of the Blessed Heaven never leaves this place alive!"

With a sharp hiss, the mountain of worms rising from Zuo Qiuyong began to dissolve, gradually revealing the sickening, hollowed-out pits covering his body and face.

Yet, looking at Zuo Qiuyong, now riddled with empty cavities, Li Huowang felt a headache brewing; he didn't know what to do next.

Zuo Qiuyong was being controlled; the worms were easy to purge, but the hollows were another matter. If he didn't remove the pits, the worms would simply keep regenerating, no matter how many times he killed them.

Staring at the dense, nauseating holes, a thought suddenly struck the beleaguered Li Huowang. His face lit up with a manic joy as he grabbed the phone from the sofa and dialed again. "Get Sister Chen in here! I need her special ability!"

Before long, a series of wet "squelches" echoed as the flesh-worms inside every hollow erupted like the pustules on Chen Hongyu’s face, spraying out in a mess of gore.

The next moment, the hollows on Zuo Qiuyong’s body, now purged of worms, began to rot and reek. The former mountain of worms had transformed into a mountain of putrid flesh, the stench so thick it felt almost tangible.

But soon, as the rotting flesh sloughed away, new tissue began to grow. Once freed from control, such injuries were nothing to Zuo Qiuyong, who governed the Heavenly Dao of Growth.

Just as Li Huowang let out a long sigh, thinking the problem solved, a shattering of glass rang out, and a round, dark object was tossed at his feet.

Seeing it, Li Huowang gasped, his scalp tingling. "No! It’s a grenade! Run!"

Li Huowang spun around, grabbed Yang Na, and sprinted toward the distant bathroom.

But before they could reach cover, a deafening roar erupted, the violent blast lifting Li Huowang clean off his feet.

A while later, in the dust-filled living room, a bloodied Yang Na blinked her eyes, her head spinning in agony.

What met her gaze was Li Huowang’s mangled back. Seeing that he had acted as a human shield, throwing himself over her to protect her, tears streamed down her face in a fit of heartache.

She struggled to lift him, staring at his lacerated back, feeling utterly helpless.

Sobbing, Yang Na patted Li Huowang’s face, desperate to rouse him.

Seeing him hovering between life and death, Yang Na was terrified; she feared he would fall into a slumber from which he would never wake.

"Li Huowang! You cannot die, do you hear me? Without my order, you are absolutely forbidden to die!"

"Cough, cough, cough!" Li Huowang coughed, reaching down to pull a shard of glass embedded in his flesh.

Weakly, he leaned forward, collapsing into Yang Na’s arms. "It’s... it’s alright. I’m not dying just yet."

"Why did you shield me? I am the deity who governs death; I cannot die," Yang Na said, her heart aching.

Hearing the familiar words, the battered Li Huowang offered a wry smile. He shook his head slightly, trying to steady his ragged breathing. "Go to the Fifth Sister’s room... find the medical kit."

Since the enemy had already struck, it wouldn't end easily. Even if he was wounded, this was no time to rest.

"Alright! Stay right there." With that, Yang Na turned and hurried off.

"With so many people outside, yet they specifically targeted the room... it seems they came for me," Li Huowang thought, pulling another shard of glass from his flesh.

Qing Wanglai’s home was beautifully decorated, but those shattered furnishings had now become a thousand blades.

"At least it didn't hit anything vital." Li Huowang forced himself to stand, walked to the broken liquor cabinet, grabbed a bottle of strong spirits, took a deep swig to numb the pain, and then poured the rest over the wounds on his back.

The searing agony made him tremble, his teeth grinding until they nearly cracked.

But it worked; the fog in his mind cleared, and his spirit felt significantly sharper.

Li Huowang pulled out his phone and dialed Qing Wanglai’s number again, but after a long wait, only static answered.

He tried calling the others, but no one picked up.

"It seems they’re engaged in battle, but why are there no gunshots outside?" Dragging his injured body, Li Huowang crept toward the door.

Before he could reach it, another dark object was tossed at his feet. Seeing the object within arm's reach, Li Huowang’s mind went blank.

There was no time to run. With a surge of resolve, Li Huowang grabbed the grenade with one hand and hurled it with all his might out the window.
