Chapter 140: Each Showing Their Own Divine Skills
Chapter 140: Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, Each Showing Their Divine Power
Crash!
The waves surged violently forward.
Riding the wind, Vex hurriedly veered to change direction, dodging the wall of water.
The low-altitude flight of his wind track did not allow him to surpass the height of the waves.
If he crashed headfirst into them, he would inevitably be dragged down into the ocean depths.
A vast number of water-attribute magical beasts lived beneath the surface; no one knew if they could emerge alive after falling in.
Seeing the waves roaring toward him.
Levi leapt into the air, no longer caring about exposing his ability to fly at this critical moment.
He had no desire to be swallowed by the sea.
Crash!
Soaring into the sky, Levi spotted the water-attribute magical beasts stirring up the waves behind them.
Several magical beasts had joined forces to create the surge, aiming to capsize everyone.
Seeing Levi take flight to avoid the water.
A fish-like magical beast opened its maw, spitting a high-pressure jet of water straight at him.
Levi dodged in a rush.
Whoosh!
The high-pressure torrent swept past his side.
Levi caught the salty, brine-scented air as mist sprayed against his face.
He raised his hand and cast a fireball spell.
Whoosh!
The sphere of flame shot toward the beasts.
The creatures dove into the water one after another to evade the attack.
Bang!
The fireball exploded upon the surface, kicking up a spray of seawater and billowing waves.
Seeing this, Levi accelerated with all his might, flying toward the island.
His priority was to leave the attack range of those few beasts behind.
Vex looked up and saw a figure swiftly receding into the distance.
A look of shock crossed his face.
"A flight spell?"
Could there be a third-tier mage participating in the contest?
A moment later, perplexity washed over Vex.
He felt no fluctuations of the wind element.
The opponent was not using a wind-attribute flight spell.
Noticing that the waves were gradually calming down without the beasts driving them forward.
He quickly quickened his pace, rushing in the direction of the island.
He also wanted to catch up with the flying Levi to see exactly what was going on.
Levi sped through the air for a moment, and seeing the ocean below grew calm, he descended.
The shadow servant carried him, swiftly closing the distance to the island.
Suddenly, he felt a biting wind assail him.
Turning his head, he saw the seawater not far away freezing into solid ice.
A figure walked slowly along the icy path, advancing toward the island with unswerving determination.
"Like the Eight Immortals crossing the sea, each showing their unique flair!"
The closer he got to the island, the more people Levi saw.
There were water mages standing atop the waves, carried forward by the swell.
Earth mages who had condensed stone into boats.
Fire mages sitting upon the shoulders of floating fire elementals.
Mages of every element were displaying their supreme talents.
There were also mages cooperating with one another to overcome the hardships.
Out on the ocean, a small boat woven from vines carried several mages, advancing slowly toward the island.
Levi stood behind his shadow servant, treading across the waves.
Suddenly, a ripple of water shot rapidly from not far away.
Bang!
The water ripple struck Levi, and a massive force knocked him backward.
Caught off guard, he was blasted back several meters.
Fortunately, the shadow servant held strong, otherwise he would have capsized.
Levi turned his head to look, catching sight of a dark shadow swimming through the sea.
"It was a spell! There is someone underwater."
A thought flashed through Levi's mind.
Someone wanted to eliminate threatening opponents in the very first round.
Water mages held the upper hand in this first stage, without a shadow of a doubt.
By the same logic.
Fire mages would possess all the advantages in the final round, while water mages would fall into a disadvantage.
After all, the venue for the finals was a volcano.
It was a perfectly normal strategy for water mages to want to eliminate fire mages right in the first round.
The further they went, the greater the fire mages' advantage and the larger their threat would become.
The scene of Levi casting his fireball spell had likely been spotted, making him a target.
Seeing the strike fail and realizing Levi was a tough nut to crack, the person in the water quickly retreated.
Levi glanced over but did not give chase.
The pressing matter at hand was to reach the island and secure his qualification for the second round first.
“Wait, what spell were you using to fly just now?” Wickes caught up from behind and called out to Li Wei.
Li Wei glanced back, but didn’t respond.
“Move.”
The Shadow Servant darted like a silver fish, carrying him toward the island.
Yet even so, its speed couldn’t match the “Wind Track” spell.
Soon enough, Wickes overtook him.
When he saw that Li Wei was the armored man he had mocked earlier, a faint flicker passed through his eyes.
He drew closer. “What spell was that?”
“None of your business,” Li Wei replied flatly.
“If you’re willing to hand over the spell’s model,” said Wickes, “I’ll pay you a fortune.”
Li Wei ignored him.
Wickes opened his mouth again—
A dark shadow surged beneath the water.
Boom!
A towering wave erupted, hurling both men into the air.
Li Wei quickly cast telekinesis, launching himself upward.
Wickes plummeted toward the sea, his face twisting in alarm.
From the depths, a monstrous maw burst forth—a beast lunging to devour him mid-fall.
“Reinforced Jet!”
Boom!
A gale exploded before him, thrusting his body skyward.
The jaws snapped shut on empty air, then vanished beneath the waves.
Li Wei looked down—the beast was already gone.
He had wanted to act, but there was nothing left to strike.
Wickes, nearly killed, no longer dared to linger.
He rushed toward the island, desperate not to be eliminated in the first round.
Li Wei landed softly, caught by the Shadow Servant.
He stared at the ocean below.
That attack—no mere coincidence.
Someone had summoned the beast.
Or worse—controlled it.
He pressed forward.
After a while, the island’s edge came into view: white sand, coconut groves swaying in the breeze.
Wickes touched down on the beach, turned back to gaze at those still struggling across the water, and smirked.
“I’m first.”
The smile hadn’t fully formed—
When the sand beneath his feet erupted.
A figure clawed its way up from the dunes.
A colossal crab-like monster, towering and grotesque.
Whoosh!
Its massive pincers snapped toward Wickes, aiming to split him in two.
He barely dodged.
On land, he had more room to fight than in open water.
Dancing aside, he launched spells at the beast.
Rat-tat-tat!
Gusts of wind struck the crab’s shell, shattered into swirling motes of elemental force—harmless.
“Damn it! Why is this thing’s magic resistance so high?”
Others arriving on shore soon realized the beach teemed with powerful beasts hidden beneath the sand.
Merely setting foot here was no easy feat.
Strangely, though—the creatures didn’t pursue with killing intent. They only drove the intruders back toward the sea.
Li Wei, slower than most, reached the coast late.
By then, the shoreline was already crowded.
Rumble—rumble—rumble!
A giant hermit crab, armored and hulking, burst from the sand and charged at him.
Boom!
It struck Li Wei, sending him staggering back—but he quickly noted the blow lacked real power.
These beach-bound monsters were all first-tier.
Whoosh!
He flung a small fireball.
Boom!
It hit—exploded—leaving only a charred mark. No real damage.
“Such high magic resistance?”
Even Li Wei frowned.
If every beast within this island’s secret realm possessed such defenses, things would get difficult.
The Shadow Servant stepped forward, shielding him from another assault.
Li Wei cast Fireball once more.
But this time, he feigned weakness—slowed his incantation deliberately.
Whoosh!
The fireball struck.
An instant before impact, the hermit crab retracted into its shell.
Boom!
The explosion tore through the armor, shattering a fragment.
Li Wei picked up the broken piece, studying the intricate patterns etched upon it.
Moments later, a smile appeared.
"So that's how it is!"
