Chapter 566: Beyond-Visual-Range Ultra-Large-Area Forbidden Spell Carpet Bombing
Chapter 566: Beyond Visual Range, Wide-Area Forbidden Spell Carpet Bombing
Li Wei crushed the communication crystal in his hand,
to prevent the Elemental Tower's master from overhearing what followed.
The transmission crystal on the tower lord’s side lost contact, yet he felt no unease.
He simply assumed Li Wei was fleeing for his life and had no time to speak.
Li Wei turned toward the legendary lich and said, “You heard it too. This place is about to be utterly destroyed.”
The legendary lich nodded. “Mm, I know.”
“Then I’ll await your word,” Li Wei replied.
The lich nodded back. “Very well.”
The legendary lich cast a teleportation spell and departed.
Li Wei also opened a spatial portal, glanced once more at the endless sea of undead stretching across the horizon,
shook his head, stepped through the gate, and vanished.
Everything here was destined for annihilation.
Li Wei appeared far from the Death Shroud, hovering midair as he gazed into the distance.
He was curious—just what method would the Elemental Tower employ to obliterate such an immense army of the undead?
Suddenly, a colossal, smooth mirror materialized in the sky before him.
Li Wei froze momentarily.
He quickly looked toward the other side of the mirror—and saw that its reflection revealed the Elemental Tower itself.
“What is this?”
It was the first time Li Wei had ever seen the Sky Mirror of the Elemental Tower.
Upon closer inspection, he noticed a group of legendary mages standing atop the upper platform of the tower.
Their robes were dazzlingly ornate, unmistakably identifying them as legendary figures.
Through the Sky Mirror, Li Wei could sense no chaotic magical fluctuations emanating from the Elemental Tower.
Yet he saw those legendary mages raising their staves high.
That alone told him—they were casting a spell.
A spell so powerful even legendary mages needed to gather their strength to unleash it.
Undoubtedly—a forbidden spell.
Could it be...?
Staring up at the massive mirror suspended in the heavens, Li Wei faintly grasped its purpose.
Was this mirror some kind of portal?
Had the Elemental Tower used it to transmit the forbidden spell directly from the tower to where the undead horde gathered?
To deliver a long-range, wide-area bombardment with devastating forbidden magic?
Before long, reality confirmed Li Wei’s suspicions.
From the staves of the legendary mages atop the Elemental Tower, streams of radiant magical light burst forth.
These beams passed through the Sky Mirror and emerged above the undead army,
scattering in all directions.
The brilliance of the forbidden spells erupted.
In an instant, Li Wei felt as though dozens of suns had ignited before his eyes.
Suns of every color imaginable.
Even hundreds of kilometers away, he still felt the overwhelming surge of magical energy sweeping over him.
The world lost its natural hues, replaced entirely by the kaleidoscopic radiance of the forbidden spells’ explosion—
a dazzling, multicolored spectacle.
Beneath that extraordinarily brilliant and gorgeous rainbow glow lay hidden the scent of death.
This was the color of destruction.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Countless undead were consumed by torrents of apocalyptic flame.
Endless ranks were shattered and frozen by absolute cold that stopped all motion.
Great whirlwinds tore across the land, shredding countless more into nothingness.
Thunderclouds blanketed the earth, unleashing bolts of lightning that annihilated everything beneath them.
Waves rose from nowhere, becoming tsunamis hundreds of miles wide, crushing all in their path.
The ground quaked and cracked open, swallowing legions whole.
Sacred light descended, purifying filth and corruption alike.
Nature surged forth—countless emerald vines sprouted, coiling like serpents to crush everything they touched.
Heaven and earth overturned. Mountains crumbled. The world collapsed.
Li Wei stood in awe of the power of the forbidden spells.
Such force was akin to divine calamity.
And yet, compared to what came next, even these mighty spells seemed ordinary.
As dozens of beams of forbidden magic gradually dimmed,
the boundless undead horde had been torn apart into countless fragments.
But still, vast numbers remained alive.
The Elemental Tower’s strike had eliminated barely four-tenths of the undead.
A great many still roamed the battlefield.
Just as Li Wei thought the tower might launch another round of forbidden spells—
A blinding beam of blue-white light shot out from within the Sky Mirror.
Its speed was incredible—it struck the earth in the blink of an eye.
Wherever the beam passed, Li Wei sensed a stark void—an unmistakable absence of magical essence.
It meant the beam had stripped the surrounding area of all ambient magic.
The beam pierced deep into the earth.
The ground split open, cracks glowing with eerie blue-white radiance.
Those fissures spread rapidly, racing across thousands of li in mere moments.
Liwei noticed the fissure snaking rapidly toward where he stood.
He sensed a terrifying surge of magical fluctuations churning beneath the earth.
Without hesitation, Liwei cast a teleportation spell to distance himself.
No sooner had he stepped through the portal.
Than a violent gale buffeted his back, threatening to sweep him off his feet.
He spun around to look, watching as a colossally vast pillar of blue-white light erupted into the heavens.
The terrain was violently uprooted, sending shattered fragments of earth hurtling into the sky.
Countless undead vanished instantly within the radiant beam.
Rumble!
The ground beneath his feet shuddered violently.
The seismic tremors triggered by the aftermath rippled across thousands of kilometers.
Liwei flew higher into the sky and beheld an utterly breathtaking sight.
The expanse once shrouded by the canopy of death had completely ceased to exist.
In its stead remained a gargantuan crater spanning over a thousand kilometers in diameter.
Every last vestige of the undead army had dissolved into nothingness.
Such was the terrifying majesty of a single strike.
Even Liwei felt a profound sense of shock and dread welling up within him.
"I wonder if the protective dragon scale gifted by the Sacred Dragon King could have withstood this blow?"
Liwei pondered to himself.
Hum!
The Mirror of the Sky faded from view.
Liwei knew the assault from the Elemental Tower had reached its conclusion.
In truth, that was precisely the case.
Following the devastating strike of the Oblivion Magic Ray, over ninety percent of the undead legion had been annihilated.
The remnants could no longer pose any meaningful threat to the Storm Great Wall.
Furthermore, stripped of the Legendary Lich's leadership, the scattered undead would never rally into a tide, their fractured forces stripped of all menace.
Liwei opened a spatial portal and returned to the Elemental Tower.
By the time he stepped back inside, the citizens throughout the floating city were already in a fervor over what had just unfolded.
The commotion caused by the Mirror of the Sky and the Oblivion Magic Ray was simply too massive.
It was impossible to conceal.
Everyone within the floating city had witnessed it.
Naturally, they had also seen the spectacle of the endless undead legion being utterly obliterated.
At this moment, every face shone with the radiant joy of victory.
The undead scourge had plagued the Elemental Tower for nearly a year.
Over the past year, its impact on the residents of the floating city had been far from trivial.
Following the outbreak of the undead scourge, the Elemental Tower had sealed its portals, forbidding residents from entering or leaving to avert unnecessary trouble.
They had essentially been grounded within the floating city for a whole year.
Now, the crisis of the undead scourge was resolved.
With everyone regaining their freedom, an irrepressible wave of excitement and delight swept through them. When Liwei reached the upper echelons of the Elemental Tower, the Legendary Mages gathered there all wore smiles as well.
Though they did not converse as passionately as the common residents below, maintaining a reasonably composed demeanor.
The smiles on their faces betrayed the absolute thrill surging in their hearts.
Seeing Liwei arrive, the Master of the Elemental Tower walked over and spoke: "The credit for thoroughly resolving the threat of this undead scourge belongs primarily to Liwei."
"I hereby declare the induction of Liwei as an official council member of the Elemental Tower."
Liwei feigned a darkened expression, speaking with visible dissatisfaction: "You almost cost me my life."
"I can overlook the Forbidden Spell, but what on earth was that at the very end? I was nearly killed by it!"
Faced with Liwei's accusation, the Tower Master quickly moved to placate him, saying: "I am deeply sorry for what transpired just now, but the decision was made in extreme haste, and I notified you to retreat at the very first moment; time was simply too pressed, and I had no other choice."
"The might of the Oblivion Magic Ray did indeed surpass my expectations, and I am profoundly apologetic for the fallout that affected you."
"Of course, Councilman Liwei, if you have any grievances, you may voice them, and I will find a way to compensate you."
Toward the greatest hero of this campaign, the Tower Master proved to be exceedingly amicable.
Hearing this, Liwei's expression softened slightly as he remarked: "I haven't thought of what I want yet; I'll let you know when I do."
The Tower Master nodded in agreement: "Very well, so long as it does not exceed the regulations of the Elemental Tower."
"These are the four Forbidden Spells promised to you."
The Tower Master produced four magical scrolls inscribed with Forbidden Spells and presented them to Liwei.
The four scrolls bore distinctly different colors—red, blue, yellow, and green—representing the Forbidden Spells of Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind.
The elements of Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire formed the bedrock of foundational elemental Forbidden Spells.
The more advanced elemental Forbidden Spells included those of Lightning, Light, Nature, Ice, and Darkness...
Liwei had only requested the Forbidden Spells of the four foundational elements.
Seeing the Forbidden Spells secured in his grasp, a flash of joy crossed his mind as he hurriedly stowed them away.
The Master of the Hall of Truth approached, handing Liwei an identity token.
He spoke with a warm smile: "From this day forth, Councilman Liwei is a member of the Sunflare Top-Secret Research Laboratory; I look forward to working closely with you."
Accepting the token, Liwei quickly returned the courtesy, saying: "Many thanks, Hall Master, you are far too kind."
He harbored quite a favorable impression of the Master of the Hall of Truth.
He had heard that when the Church of the Holy Light demanded the Elemental Tower hand him over last time, the Hall Master had spoken quite a few good words on his behalf.
Naturally, Liwei's attitude toward the Master of the Hall of Truth was highly amiable.
Next came the celebration.
The Elemental Tower also drafted a battle report to dispatch to the Empire, claiming credit and requesting rewards.
On this day, the entire Elemental Tower was bathed in the joyous celebration of a monumental victory.
Liwei attended the victory banquet held within the Elemental Tower.
Afterward, he walked alone toward a manor.
Just as he stepped through the gates, a voice echoed from within.
"Esteemed guest, our master is temporarily away from home. If you have business to discuss, please come back at another time."
Upon hearing the voice, Li Wei chuckled and said, "Kuro, don't tell me you've forgotten me too?"
The magical butler Kuro stepped forward, revealing a look of surprise upon seeing Li Wei.
"Master Li Wei, you're back."
Li Wei sat down on the sofa with Kuro standing beside him. Diana brought over a cup of tea and placed it before him.
Li Wei found this somewhat odd and asked, "Where has Master Valen gone?"
Kuro replied, "Our master left the Elemental Tower for the imperial capital. He didn't inform us when he would return."
Both Kuro and Diana were magical constructs imbued with human souls and emotions. After Zog Valen had departed from the estate, they remained within its confines without venturing out. They required no food, sustaining themselves instead through daily recharging via magic crystals. Thus, they were rather unaware of events occurring beyond their domain.
They hadn't even known about the celebrations marking victory in the great war, which explained why they were so surprised by Li Wei's sudden arrival.
Hearing this, Li Wei nodded and said, "Very well then."
"I'll be staying here for some time."
Kuro bowed slightly and responded, "Of course. The room where Master Li Wei previously resided has been kept clean by Diana all along."
Li Wei glanced toward Diana, who stood nearby dressed as a maid, her expression stern and unsmiling.
"Thank you," he said.
"It is a maid's duty," Diana replied simply.
Back in his former quarters, Li Wei retrieved four forbidden spell scrolls given to him by the Elemental Tower:
*Apocalypse Fire*, the ultimate fire incantation;
*Rage of the Sea God*, the supreme water spell;
*Cataclysmic Earthquake*, the devastating earth invocation;
*Storm of Ruin*, the annihilating wind enchantment.
For one such as Li Wei, who possessed a proficiency panel, learning these forbidden spells was not particularly difficult. He quickly mastered all four.
What remained was gaining fluency in casting them—a matter of practice.
Yet that wasn't truly his goal.
Li Wei studied forbidden spells not merely to become adept at wielding them. He already possessed offensive capabilities rivaling—if not exceeding—the power of such spells.
His purpose in learning them was to further enhance his own destructive might.
Once basic spells like *Fireball* reached the sixth-tier perfected stage, they could progress no further.
Li Wei realized that perhaps only after mastering forbidden spells could he begin developing seventh-tier magics.
Learning forbidden spells elevated the upper limit of his magical evolution.
Moreover, studying them broadened his understanding of high-level arcane arts.
At night, Li Wei trained intensively within his dream realm, grinding his mastery of forbidden spells.
Forbidden incantations were inherently complex, making skill acquisition far slower than ordinary spells.
By dawn, he had barely achieved mastery over one fully-developed forbidden technique. The others remained at beginner levels.
He wasn't concerned—he had ample time now. There was no rush.
During the day, Li Wei visited the Sunflare Research Laboratory inside the Hall of Truth.
One reason for returning to the Elemental Tower was to obtain genuine sunflare essence—to analyze its connection to solar energy and deepen his comprehension of elemental fusion principles.
When Li Wei requested access to actual sunflare samples, Fuanlides informed him that none remained. Currently, there was no stored sunflare within the tower.
They would need to wait until the next cycle to gather more from the Astral Plane.
All available sunflare had been used crafting Radiant Mage-Cannons—an unfortunate necessity born of desperation.
Faced with the looming threat of undead apocalypse, the Elemental Tower had spared nothing to bolster its defenses immediately.
Additionally, large quantities of Radiant Mage-Cannons had been purchased by the Empire, depleting reserves entirely.
As a result, research activities within the Sunflare Lab had essentially halted, awaiting sufficient new supplies before continuing work.
Li Wei inquired, "When will the next sunflare collection occur?"
Fuanlides answered, "Approximately seven days hence. Only once the sun ejects streams of solar flame into the Astral Plane can we attempt harvesting fresh samples."
"Seven days? That should suffice."
After pondering briefly, Li Wei decided he could use the time to perfect his Astral Wandering Technique.
He declared, "I wish to participate in the next sunflare expedition."
Fuanlides cautioned, "I must seek permission from the Hall Lord first. Collecting sunflare is extremely perilous—those ejected flames rival the force of forbidden spells."
Li Wei acknowledged, "Understood. Please submit my request on my behalf."
Seeing Li Wei’s determination, Fuanlides made no further objections.
Unable to acquire sunflare, Li Wei turned to other pursuits.
He went to the Saint Velia Library, searching for information regarding magical seeds while also seeking details about the Jade Prince.
Eliminating magical disasters and confronting the Jade Prince were among his objectives for coming to the Elemental Tower.
