Chapter 63: Power Comparable to a Tier 2 Spell!
Chapter 63: Power Rivaling a Second-Rank Spell!
That afternoon, Li Wei stood atop the city walls, watching waves of adventurers depart from Hansha City.
With orcs constantly harassing the city, Orin had directly dispatched adventurers to clear out roaming orc bands nearby.
Compared to their role in full-scale warfare, adventurers proved far more effective in these small skirmishes.
Li Wei remained within the city, content to cultivate and strengthen himself.
He idly played with a fireball in his palm.
The sphere shifted shape ceaselessly—until gradually, it transformed into the form of a tiny flaming bird.
“Is this the effect of basic mana control?”
At his mental command, mana poured steadily into the little bird.
Its body rapidly swelled in size.
In the past, the longer he sustained a fireball, the faster his control over it would deteriorate.
But now, he felt no such decline.
“Li Wei, what are you doing?”
Puff!
The fiery bird dissipated, scattering into embers that vanished into the air.
Feixiya stared at him, blinking, wondering if she’d imagined it.
For a moment, she could’ve sworn she saw a flaming bird in his hand.
“What was that just now?” she asked.
Li Wei casually waved his hand. “Nothing.”
“I thought I saw a firebird,” Feixiya insisted.
“You must be mistaken. Where would a firebird monster come from here?” Li Wei replied solemnly.
“Well… maybe I did see wrong.” She wasn’t so sure anymore.
Feixiya looked at him again. “Li Wei, let’s form a team and take on missions to earn merits.”
Li Wei shook his head. “Too dangerous. I won’t leave Hansha City.”
She pressed on. “Don’t you want an Awakening Potion? The cheapest one only costs eighteen hundred merits. With it, you can become a true mage!”
“I don’t want it,” Li Wei said flatly.
Seeing him so immovable, Feixiya deflated.
“Fine.”
She returned to Jonah and Dales. Dales glanced at Li Wei before turning to her.
“Why do you keep insisting on bringing him? He’s too cowardly—he’ll only slow us down.”
Jonah nodded. “Right, Dales is correct.”
Feixiya glanced at both of them but said nothing.
Why invite Li Wei? Because she saw his potential.
Evening fell. They descended from the wall.
Rota looked at Li Wei and asked, “Do you know any adventurer squads?”
“No. Why?” Li Wei replied.
“How about joining me?” Rota invited. “I know an established squad—all members are high-rank first-tier adventurers.”
“Appreciate the offer, but I have my own plans,” Li Wei said.
“Alright then.”
Rota didn’t press further.
As Li Wei passed the barracks, he saw wounded adventurers returning with spoils, their faces lit with joy upon receiving merits.
Others came back grieving, injured, hollow-eyed.
Some rejoiced; others suffered.
“Master Guze, when did you return?” Li Wei met Guze on the path.
Guze turned, smiling. “Just now.”
Noticing bloodstains on his robe, Li Wei asked anxiously, “Are you hurt, Master?”
Guze glanced at the stain. “I’m fine. This is my teammate’s blood—from helping him dress his wounds.”
“Today was truly perilous—we encountered a group of orc adventurers in the wild…”
They walked together as Guze recounted the day’s events, sharing combat insights.
“In the future, don’t naively wear your mage robes outside. On my way back, I saw an entire squad—only the mage was slit by an assassin. The rest weren’t even scratched.”
“The orcs outside the city are specifically hunting mages now. If you ever go out, stay alert. Even inside the city, never let your guard down,” Guze warned.
“Yes, I understand,” Li Wei replied.
Back in his room, long before midnight, Li Wei slipped into the dream realm.
Only here could he use magic without restraint.
“Let me test the power of the Mastered Fireball!”
He cast the spell—completed in just 2.5 seconds. Before him floated an orange-red fireball.
His senses told him its destructive force far exceeded that of the beginner-level version.
Amplified by the Fire Elemental Body’s affinity for fire spells,
he couldn’t precisely gauge how much stronger it had become.
“Nightmare Snow Bear won’t do anymore—who should I face next?”
In dreams, he could simulate any enemy he’d fought before.
The accuracy of the simulation depended entirely on how well he understood the foe.
The simulated opponent wouldn’t display abilities he himself didn’t know.
After brief contemplation, Li Wei chose a suitable target.
The figure of Mage George materialized.
Under Li Wei’s control, George raised a Magic Shield, then stood motionless—a mere target.
Whoosh!
The enhanced, master-level fireball launched forward.
Boom!
It struck George—the explosion instantly tearing through his first-rank magical shield.
A streak of blue light flickered into existence, blocking the lingering force of the fireball.
Last time, Li Wei had barely shattered the magical shield after exerting every ounce of his strength.
Li Wei was deeply satisfied with the destructive power the fireball spell had demonstrated.
This level of force was now sufficient to threaten even second-rank transcendents.
With a wave of his hand, George vanished, and the room returned to its original state.
He cast the fireball spell once more.
"This isn't my limit yet. Now that I possess the supernatural trait of mana control, I feel that even with only mastery-level proficiency in fireball, I can still employ charging techniques."
Li Wei channeled mana steadily into the fireball.
The sphere swelled violently—within moments, its diameter expanded to nearly a meter.
He poured one-third of his total mana reserves into it.
Sensing the violent elemental fluctuations within the one-meter-wide fireball, even he couldn’t help but break into a cold sweat.
He had reached the limit; any further infusion would trigger an explosion.
And if it detonated here, it would be suicide—no chance of survival.
With a thought, the room rapidly expanded around him.
He hurled the blazing orb toward the distant end.
Fifty meters out, the fireball lost stability. The elemental turbulence surged instantly to its peak.
Boom!
Blinding flames forced Li Wei to squeeze his eyes shut instinctively.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
A searing heatwave roared past from fifty meters away, pressing his invisibility cloak tightly against his body, flapping wildly with sharp rustling sounds.
Only when the glare faded and light returned to normal, when the heat weakened, did he slowly open his eyes.
Over forty meters away, a crater more than a meter deep and five meters across scarred the ground.
"Damn! The power is terrifying!"
"This rivals Elder Al’s Flame Serpent spell!"
Back then, Al had stood atop the city wall, unleashing a single Flame Serpent that incinerated a mid-tier second-rank Snowman Knight, leaving behind a crater wider than five meters in the snow.
A look of delight crossed Li Wei’s face. Given enough time to charge, he could now slay even second-rank foes.
"The power is tremendous—but the charging time takes three full minutes, and the magical resonance it generates is intense, impossible to conceal."
Though devastating, using this technique in actual combat demanded extremely harsh conditions.
No enemy would simply stand there, watching Li Wei gather energy, waiting to be blown apart.
