Chapter 81: Rota's Overthinking
Chapter 81: Lota's Elaborate Assumptions
Seeing Gu Ze, Li Wei walked forward with delight.
"Teacher Gu Ze, you are back!"
Gu Ze said with a smile, "I am back."
"Many things happened after you left, I will tell you when we return."
Li Wei glanced behind him; over twenty people had gone from the Mage Tower, but only nineteen had returned.
Even two official first-tier mages had been lost.
It could be described as a grievous wound.
Li Wei thought secretly to himself: It seems war is not as easy as Teacher Gu Ze said, otherwise there wouldn’t be such heavy casualties.
When he communicated with Gu Ze in the Magic Net, Gu Ze always adopted a tone of being safe and well, everything going smoothly, and there being no need to worry.
It had made Li Wei believe the war truly was progressing smoothly.
Clop, clop, clop!
Hearing the sound, Li Wei looked over, spotted a figure in the ranks, and shouted, "Rayna."
Hearing this, Rayna spoke to the person beside her and rode her horse over to him.
Nearing him, she flipped over and dismounted.
Clang!
The heavy armor struck the ground, making a sharp sound.
Rayna took off her helmet, hung it on the saddle, and pulled out her long hair hidden inside the armor to catch some air.
"Li Wei, I heard you came back early before the great battle, that is truly a bit of a pity, missing many opportunities to earn military merits."
Li Wei smiled and said, "It's fine, the battlefield might still not suit me, I am more suited to staying in the Mage Tower doing magic research."
He took a few extra glances at Rayna.
More than a month of war had tempered Rayna's originally careless and thick-skinned nature to be more steady, yet without losing her straightforwardness.
Rayna nodded and said, "True, the characteristics of different professions are also different."
She looked at Li Wei and said with a smile, "Do you still remember the challenge match between us?"
Li Wei said, "Of course I remember."
Rayna said, "I hope there will still be an opportunity in the future."
"Just take it as a goal to work hard for!"
Without waiting for Li Wei's reply, Rayna said, "I must go, there are still many things waiting for me to handle, see you next time."
Flipping onto her horse, Rayna rode her warhorse and merged into the ranks.
Li Wei looked at Rayna's retreating figure with a face full of confusion.
Gu Ze patted his shoulder, sighed, and said, "Look on the bright side, her talent is simply too strong!"
"In just one month, she broke through from the peak of the first tier to the mid-level of the second tier, rising two levels in a row."
Even Gu Ze could not help but lament and feel envious.
Hearing this, Li Wei was somewhat surprised, but not entirely shocked.
War was the catalyst for a War Knight's strength.
That Rayna could have this speed of promotion was not terribly surprising.
If there were no subsequent wars, Rayna's upgrading speed would slow down.
However, Li Wei felt that the number of subsequent wars might not be few.
The Kingdom of Maqier failed to react in time to stop Oates this time, so they would definitely find ways to interfere, obstruct, and weaken Oates in the future.
The simplest way was undoubtedly to launch a war.
If Oates wanted to successfully establish a country and conquer the remaining three powerful cities, war was also inevitable.
This might be the result that Orne wanted.
War was the catalyst for a War Knight's strength; it was effective for Rayna, and it was also effective for Orne.
"The speed of strength promotion is truly fast!" Li Wei lamented.
As for what Rayna said about taking her as a goal to cultivate hard.
Li Wei just listened to it and completely did not take it to heart.
Is a mid-level second tier very strong?
For the current him, it was not matchless.
In terms of level, he was indeed inferior to Rayna, but true combat power, not necessarily!
"Master Lota."
Seeing an acquaintance, Li Wei called out.
Lota nodded, his face also bearing joy, and he asked, "I heard the Elemental Feeding Method was conceived by you?"
Li Wei nodded, "Why does Master Lota ask this?"
He smiled and patted Li Wei's shoulder. Li Wei shrugged his shoulders, why did all these people love to pat shoulders.
Lota said amiably, "Thanks to your Elemental Feeding Method, I have also broken through the first tier."
When Li Wei heard him ask about the Elemental Feeding Method, he was already mentally prepared, so he was not too surprised.
However, he still appropriately displayed a trace of pleasant surprise.
"Really? Then truly congratulations to Master Lota."
Lota looked at Li Wei, the corner of his mouth curling slightly, revealing a look of knowing understanding.
He said in a low voice, "You have also broken through the first tier, right?"
Li Wei was stunned, and after a little thought, he knew the reason.
True, if he himself created the Elemental Feeding Method, how could he himself have not yet broken through?
He glanced at Gu Ze, then looked at Lota, and asked, "Besides you two, who else knows?"
Gu Ze shook his head and said, "No one else, I only spoke once to Master Lota about the theory you told me, and he comprehended it himself."
Lota smiled and said, "After I comprehended it, I tricked the truth out of Gu Ze's mouth that it was you who told him the Elemental Feeding Method, do not blame him for exposing you."
Li Wei shook his head and said, "I will not blame Teacher."
Hearing this, Gu Ze breathed a sigh of relief in his heart.
Before this, he had been thinking all the way about how to explain this matter to Li Wei.
He also had not intentionally exposed Li Wei.
He also had not expected that with just a casual mention by himself, Lota would actually be able to comprehend it.
And from his words, I deduced the theory originated from Li Wei.
Rota looked at Li Wei and said, “I understand if you wish to conceal your strength. I won’t go spreading this around.”
“Did you inherit knowledge from some high-ranking mage?” Rota ventured cautiously.
He couldn’t believe the Elemental Feeding Method was something Li Wei had devised himself.
The theory came from him, yes—but surely not conceived by him.
A secret of magic unknown even to archmages—how could an apprentice possibly know it?
Li Wei must have inherited it from a powerful mage.
Hearing Rota’s words, Li Wei’s lips twitched. You really are good at guessing!
But this worked out perfectly—it gave him an excuse to explain everything.
“Well,” Li Wei said, “I did receive inheritance from a mysterious mage. He never told me his name. He only sends me magical knowledge every now and then, instructing me to train on my own. He said that once I become an archmage, I must seek him out in a certain place—he’ll only formally accept me as his disciple then.”
Rota nodded knowingly. “Just as I thought.”
Guze stared at Li Wei, astonished, his expression clearly asking: How come I didn’t know this?
Rota continued, “Your master might be an ancient mage. They tend to favor this kind of hands-off apprenticeship.”
Li Wei forced a smile. “Ah, yes, exactly.”
Whatever you say.
He’d stopped trying to think altogether.
Rota expressed deep gratitude to Li Wei and solemnly swore he would never reveal the secret.
Li Wei could only shake his head helplessly.
“Fine, whatever makes you happy.”
(Inside, he muttered:) You’re impossible.
The three returned together to the mage tower.
Only after Rota left did Guze bring up the matter.
“Do you really have a mysterious master?” Guze asked skeptically.
He didn’t think so.
Otherwise, Li Wei wouldn’t have come to him clueless about everything.
Li Wei replied, “Teacher, just assume I do.”
Guze nodded thoughtfully.
Looking at Li Wei, he said, “Now that I think of it, perhaps your talent isn’t inferior to Leina’s after all.”
“Keep going!”
Suddenly, Guze offered encouragement, leaving Li Wei utterly bewildered.
Watching Guze’s retreating back as he entered his room,
Li Wei murmured, “Has Teacher misunderstood something?”
