Chapter 30: Battle on the Verge of Breaking Out
Chapter 30: Battle at the Breaking Point
On the dark red Gobi, the silence was shattered by the arrival of a group of uninvited guests.
The students of Class 1, Grade 3, took about half a minute to gradually recover from the violent, soul-twisting aftereffects of subspace teleportation.
Qian Duoduo stopped retching, but his face remained as pale as paper.
Shi Potian’s tightly furrowed brow slowly relaxed.
The other students also steadied themselves one by one, gripping their weapons tightly.
During that half-minute, their homeroom teacher, Wu Shangfeng, stood like a silent iron tower at the very front of the formation.
He did not urge them on, only silently guarded, his sharp gaze sweeping every corner of the wasteland like the most vigilant sentinel.
Only when everyone had basically regained their mobility did he speak, his voice as steady as ever.
“The discomfort of subspace teleportation mainly stems from your mental strength being unable to fully withstand the spatial tearing and the impact of the information torrent during cross-dimensional travel. This discomfort will gradually diminish as your mental strength improves. Generally, once you reach the fourth-level martial artist and your mental strength is strong enough, you can completely immunize yourself from the side effects of subspace teleportation.”
He raised his wrist, where a dark gold terminal glowed, and tapped lightly on the light screen.
Instantly, all the students’ terminals received a file.
It was a detailed three-dimensional map of the gamma-7 planetary mining area.
On the map, a vast, complex mining area was clearly marked.
Scattered around the mining area were many destroyed mining facilities and living camps.
And their mission target, the area marked by a crimson light spot, was located at the core of the entire mining area—the main mine shaft.
“Our mission is to enter this mining area and clear all the greenskins from the main mine shaft.”
Wu Shangfeng’s voice echoed across the empty Gobi. “Time limit: eight hours. Within eight hours, no matter what tactics or means you use, you must eliminate all greenskins in the target area.”
His gaze swept over every young but tense face.
“Also, I don’t want to see any casualties.”
After issuing the order, Wu Shangfeng stepped back and said no more.
He handed over command entirely to these fledgling newcomers.
The students exchanged glances, and for a moment, no one spoke.
After a brief silence, a tall, handsome youth stepped forward from the group.
His name was Chu Lan. He ranked just behind Shi Potian in the high school entrance exam and was recognized as the second-in-command of the class.
“Fellow classmates,”
Chu Lan’s voice was clear and confident as he looked around. “Since Teacher Wu has given us command, we can’t act like a bunch of scattered sand. I suggest that for this operation, I take on temporary coordination and command. Does anyone have any objections?”
The surrounding students, including the top-ranked prodigies, instinctively looked toward Shi Potian in the front row.
Shi Potian still wore that cold, stern expression. He simply looked calmly at Chu Lan, saying nothing and raising no objection.
His nature was not one to seek the spotlight in such situations.
Seeing that Shi Potian had no comment, the other students naturally had no objections either.
“Good.”
Seeing no opposition, Chu Lan continued, “I just looked at the map. Inside the main mine shaft, the tunnels are narrow and complex, and the terrain is extremely unfavorable for us. If we rush in recklessly and get surrounded by greenskins or blocked in some narrow passage, we might end up in a situation where one greenskin holds the pass and ten thousand cannot get through. Then our tactical advantage will be completely lost.”
“So, I suggest we first lure the greenskins out of their lair. Lead them to the open plain outside the mining area, and then encircle and annihilate them.”
“As for how to lure them out,”
A confident smile curled at the corner of Chu Lan’s mouth. “It’s simple. Just send a team to charge to the mine entrance, launch a probing attack, then feign a rout and retreat. Low-level greenskins are extremely aggressive and have low intelligence. They absolutely cannot tolerate any form of provocation and will surely swarm out to chase us.”
“Once they’re lured out, all of us will split into dormitory units to encircle and cut them off. Remember, we are not fighting alone. Every dormitory squad must stay in contact, support each other, and coordinate.”
Chu Lan’s tactical thinking was clear and logical, and it quickly won everyone’s approval.
“Our dorm will carry out the luring mission.”
Chu Lan volunteered, looking at his three roommates. They all nodded simultaneously, with no trace of fear on their faces.
The plan was set.
Under Chu Lan’s command, all the students quickly arranged a huge, pocket-shaped ambush formation on the open Gobi. Qin Feng, Shi Potian, and Qian Duoduo were positioned on the left flank of the formation.
Everything was ready.
Chu Lan made a “prepare” gesture to everyone, then, like four arrows released from a bowstring, he and his three roommates dashed toward the distant mine shaft, which loomed like the gaping mouth of a giant beast.
Everyone held their breath, waiting silently.
About ten minutes later, a violent explosion roared from the mine entrance in the distance, followed by the crisp clang of weapons clashing.
Soon, the figures of Chu Lan and his three companions could be seen fleeing back in disarray from the direction of the mine.
“It worked! They’re chasing us out!”
Chu Lan’s voice came clearly through the team channel to everyone’s ears.
Almost the moment his words fell,
“WAAAGH!!!”
A chaotic, savage roar that seemed to tear the sky itself erupted from the depths of the dark mine.
Then, the ground began to tremble slightly.
A torrential green flood, like a breached dam, surged out of the mine!
It was over a hundred greenskins of various shapes and sizes.
They brandished rusted, crude-looking cleavers and axes, letting out meaningless, bloodthirsty howls.
Their crimson eyes burned with chaos and brutality, fixed unerringly on the “fleeing” Chu Lan and his team as they charged fearlessly.
Their charge had no formation, like a herd of enraged beasts, knowing only the most direct way to rush at their prey.
Among this green torrent was one particularly massive greenskin.
It stood two meters tall, its skin a deeper, darker green, muscles knotted like rock, dragging a huge butcher’s knife as wide as a door panel.
It was the leader of this small tribe.
Behind this small warband followed several crude “war wagons” cobbled together from scrap metal, spikes, and unknown mechanical parts.
Some of these wagons ran on tracks, others on mismatched wheels. Their bodies were daubed with red paint in crude patterns of giant fangs and skulls.
On top of the wagons were mounted “big shootas” assembled from metal pipes and springs, looking like they might explode at any moment.
These were the products of the greenskins’ “Waaagh! power.”
They looked like a pile of ridiculous junk, but everyone knew that these crude war machines could unleash deadly, irrational force in the coming battle.
The green tide roared and surged, charging with a savage momentum that seemed to destroy everything, straight into the ambush circle laid by the newcomers.
The number of greenskins far exceeded the students’ expectations.
Chu Lan’s expression shifted slightly.
“Stick to the plan. Fight!”
The Greenskins and the students clashed together, a terrifying battle on the verge of eruption!——
Wu Shangfeng stood quietly in the distance, watching the battlefield before him, his eyes like those of a hawk.
He was confident he could easily protect all the students.
Of course, he would not act rashly.
And on Wu Shangfeng's wrist, a terminal launched a drone, which floated up into the sky, overlooking and recording the entire battle scene.
At Qiming No.1 High School.
Inside a vast martial arts hall.
The principal of Qiming No.1 High School, along with a dozen teachers, sat inside, watching the images on the large screen.
The images were precisely the scene of the Greenskins and the students erupting into battle.
“I wonder how many promising talents this batch will yield.”
The principal murmured to himself.
