Chapter 579: . The fate of Saya, the shy, reserved, good-tempered O'Neil Turing (1)
Book 579: Saya's Destiny, the Shy, Timid, and Good-Tempered Onon Turing (1)
The young man stood tall and straight, his features handsome and radiant.
He was the most textbook definition of a Starry Sky Human.
His black hair had grown slightly long, and the strands over his forehead fell loosely, partially veiling his eyes.
He simply stood there at his own leisure.
Yet, this dim and gloomy void seemed suddenly bathed in light.
He was as arresting and brilliant as a sun that would never extinguish.
Lu Sheng.
Huang Ji’s pupils contracted violently.
Given his own personality, he had basically been coasting along during the recent Protector’s War.
But he still recognized this figure—the one who had slaughtered a Level 13 general beast, the one who had dared to fling a fist at a Level 14 entity.
Now, Lu Sheng stood quietly before him.
The oppressive energy radiating from his form crashed against Huang Ji's body, wave after wave, like the tides of the starry sky.
He felt an uncontrollable urge to tremble; fear, like the tentacles of an exotic beast, gripped his heart with a ruthless squeeze, leaving him near suffocation.
"Lu... Lu Sheng?!"
Looking at the figure who had materialized out of thin air, Saya was also thoroughly stunned.
He could hardly believe his eyes, almost suspecting that his vision was playing tricks on him.
Lu Sheng gave Saya a slight nod, then without casting a single glance at Huang Ji, he faced another direction.
"May I ask Lord Hai Jidao—what is the prescribed punishment for attempting to murder a compatriot on the Alien Space Battlefield?"
Only then did Saya and Huang Ji realize there was a third person present.
Clad in a jet-black combat suit, with snow-white hair, a gaunt face, and a cold demeanor.
It was none other than Hai Jidao, one of the three Level 13 powerhouses of the Hundred Great Star Zones Battlefield.
Faced with Lu Sheng's query, Hai Jidao pondered briefly before quickly replying, "The Military Court of the Hundred Great Star Zones will grant him the most impartial verdict. In all likelihood, it should be banishment to the Abyssal Rift Space."
"Then I shall trouble you with it."
Lu Sheng nodded with great courtesy, releasing his grip on Huang Ji in the process.
Before the latter could even harbor a single thought, he was seized by the neck by another large hand and led away, his face painted in absolute despair.
Now, only Lu Sheng and Saya remained in the void.
Looking at Saya before him, a slight ripple stirred in Lu Sheng's heart.
His acquaintance with Saya was not particularly deep.
Strictly speaking, they could not even be considered friends.
At best, they were teammates who had traveled together for a stretch of the journey and found each other reasonably agreeable.
However, there were certain qualities in Saya that were rare and precious.
Lu Sheng still remembered how, when they encountered the very first Level 13 exotic beast upon entering the Alien Space Battlefield, Saya had desperately held the head of the stone-man, Dunton, in his arms.
If this trial in the Alien Space Battlefield had not concluded so abruptly and carelessly, and had things unfolded along a normal trajectory, perhaps he and Saya really could have become good friends.
Discerning Saya's constraint and tension in his presence, Lu Sheng gave it some thought and chose to break the awkwardness himself.
"How is Dunton doing?"
"His recovery is progressing quite well. The medical standards at the battlefield base are far superior to those within the inner starry sky. It's estimated that in less than half a month, he will be completely healed."
Saya answered rapidly, as though replying to a family elder or a superior's interrogation.
"That is good."
Lu Sheng nodded and said, "Once he recovers, please bid him a simple farewell on my behalf."
"Alright."
Saya nodded subconsciously, but soon, as if just registering the words, he snapped his head up and asked in some astonishment, "You're leaving?"
"Yes."
Lu Sheng’s gaze swept casually across the surrounding void, and he replied with a touch of sentimentality, "Some say I am not suited for this place right now. Actually..."
Lu Sheng’s gaze suddenly snapped back to Saya, and shifting his tone, he said, "I believe you aren't suited for this place either."
"Uh..."
Saya froze, and very quickly, his handsome face flushed crimson.
"Is it because my strength is simply too weak? I can't be of any help, and I always drag others down..."
Saya started with shame, which then devolved into a thick layer of self-deprecation and lamentation.
"Last time it was Dunton, this time it's you. I truly am a useless piece of trash... Ha ha..."
Saya lowered his head, his entire being steeped in despondency.
"No. It is not a question of strength."
As the words echoed in his ears, Saya slowly raised his head to look at Lu Sheng.
Lu Sheng was looking back at him.
"Your talent should not be squandered here. If you were within the inner starry sky, you could do far better."
Lu Sheng offered a metaphor, saying, "If the day ever comes when humanity and the exotic beasts wage an all-out war, I believe you would make a far better logistics and support specialist than a frontline warrior."
Saya stared blankly, somewhat dazed.
Lu Sheng spoke with an earnest, open expression: "My martial intuition tells me that you ought to return to your original position, to do what you are best at."
It is what I am most interested in, and what I excel at the most.”
“Uh...”
Saya opened his mouth, momentarily at a loss for words.
If anyone else had spoken these words to him, he would have paid them no mind, if not outright scoffed.
Please, a random search on the Star Net would yield tens of trillions of similar pieces of chicken soup for the soul.
Yet, the one saying this to him right now happened to be Lu Sheng!
Who was Lu Sheng?
The most brilliant genius in the history of the Hundred Great Star Zones battlefield, whose radiance caused even Arnon of the Turing family to pale in comparison.
In an instant, something within Saya’s heart seemed to be ignited.
And it showed every sign of burning brighter and fiercer.
“Think it over carefully yourself, I will put in a word with the Chief Star Marshal.
If you truly wish to leave, you will by no means be treated as a deserter.
...
Even,”
Lu Sheng winked at Saya and said, “you might even manage to pass off as a hero.”
Every veteran who officially retired from the alien battlefield was a hero of the starry sky, deserving of respect from any race within it.
Hearing these words from Lu Sheng, a sudden burst of light erupted in Saya’s eyes.
His entire being seemed somewhat stirred with excitement.
Lu Sheng, however, merely gave him a faint smile, patted his shoulder, and then vanished into the void like a fading beam of light.
“Goodbye, Saya.”
Saya instinctively reached out toward that dissolving light, only to grasp at nothing.
In the end, he stood dazed on the spot, lost in a melancholy daze.
The words Lu Sheng had spoken to Saya were no mere chicken soup of encouragement.
They were, for the most part, entirely true.
This was a conclusion he had reached upon a whim when he went to bid Saya farewell, after seeing Saya’s background profile handed to him by Haigidao, and subsequently returning to the Dream Space Universe to query it using the power of the Universe Origin.
The result deduced by the Origin Power.
Was that Saya would become an extremely successful businessman in the future.
He would even expand his family business beyond the Celestial Serpent Galaxy, making an immensely massive material contribution to the struggle between the human race and the alien beasts of the Celestial Serpent Galaxy.
Although the deduction of the Origin Power did not represent the literal future, it was the most probable future derived from existing information.
From this, Lu Sheng could glean at least two points.
First, Saya was indeed a genuine talent.
Second, certain qualities Saya possessed had indeed not escaped Lu Sheng's discerning eye.
That was enough.
What Lu Sheng did was merely to lend him a hand along the way.
A simple effort, so why not?
Afterward, Lu Sheng went to visit the rockman, Downton, who was currently soaking in a medical pod.
Just as Saya had said, Downton’s condition was stable, and his recovery was progressing quite well.
Lu Sheng had initially wanted to seek out Monroe as well.
But considering he had once nearly beaten him to death with a single punch, Monroe might not care to see him.
Thus, he abandoned the idea.
He did not have many acquaintances on the alien battlefield.
The brief trial ended with a farewell that possessed a modicum of ritual.
That very day, Lu Sheng boarded the spaceship leaving the alien battlefield.
Accompanying him was a person named Arnon Turing.
That was a green-haired, dark-skinned youth who was shy and bashful.
Upon meeting him, the youth appeared slightly nervous and uneasy, yet he still took the initiative to greet him.
Very warm, and possessed of a very good temper.
Only later, when Haigidao, who traveled with them, took the initiative to inform him, did Lu Sheng find out.
It turned out that this Arnon Turing was actually the super genius with the most outstanding talent in the history of the Hundred Great Star Zones battlefield prior to him.
Likewise an owner of an immortal-grade bloodline.
And traditionally, he had always been renowned for his aloof character, explosive temper, and being extremely difficult to get along with.
