Chapter 168: 168, Refresh my understanding of Ren Xiaosu (Third update, requesting monthly votes)
Ren Xiaosu withdrew his shadow and climbed back onto the rooftop, only to find Xu Xiancu sitting there, gasping heavily, his opponent already dead, his neck twisted like a pretzel.
Ren Xiaosu looked toward a distant skyscraper, waved at it, then spoke to Xu Xiancu: "Let’s go back to our place for a shower and change of clothes. If you want to go to 178 Bi Lei, we’d better eat a proper meal before setting off."
Xu Xiancu said, moved: "Thank you!"
"A gratitude from Xu Xiancu, +1!"
At that moment, Ren Xiaosu truly wanted to tell Xu Xiancu, "Why don’t you just stay? Just say thanks every day..."
But Xu Xiancu continued: "I can’t linger here. Once this fight is over tonight, the Bi Lei might be sealed off even tighter. It won’t be practical for me to leave later, so now is the best time."
Ren Xiaosu sighed: "Won’t you wait a bit longer?"
"Staying would only burden you," Xu Xiancu said earnestly: "Ren Xiaosu, we’ll meet again if fate allows!"
Ren Xiaosu thought for a moment and nodded: "Perhaps we’ll meet again at 178 Bi Lei. Take care!"
With that, Xu Xiancu left without looking back. As for how he’d escape the Bi Lei, it seemed no trouble for a former private military officer like him.
By now, hurried footsteps echoed from the distant streets—apparently, the Bi Lei’s forces were arriving soon.
Ren Xiaosu now sincerely hoped the factions within the Bi Lei would clash soon. When they did, everyone would be too busy tearing each other apart to bother with him.
After Ren Xiaosu and the others left, the Order Department’s security team finally arrived, sealing off the scene and promptly notifying the Li Clan.
The battle traces were unmistakably abnormal—this was no ordinary fight, but a clash between supernatural beings.
Moreover, the fire emblem marks on the victims’ clothes made it clear to the Order Department that this was beyond their jurisdiction.
In fact, they already knew something was amiss lately: the blood-soaked Fourth Psychiatric Hospital, the explosion caused by Huosheng Company’s pursuit of supernatural beings—these events combined made it obvious that meddling would be suicidal.
After all, the Order Department was composed of ordinary people with small-caliber firearms. Those might deter petty thieves, but against supernatural beings, they’d be slaughtered.
On the rooftop of the distant skyscraper, Yang Xiaojin had just been collected by a firearm, while Luo Xinyu leaned on the railing, curious: "Don’t you find it strange? Though this wasn’t the main force of the Dawn Group, that kid killed so effortlessly. Was our assessment of him too low?"
"Hmm," Yang Xiaojin gazed at the distant battlefield, lost in thought: "It was a bit unexpected. I thought his combat prowess wasn’t that high, but he actually took on three alone. Though I didn’t see the alley fight, if Xu Xiancu faced only one, then Ren Xiaosu must’ve faced three."
"Five people is standard for the Dawn Group—they always prefer outnumbering their foes," Luo Xinyu said idly: "This time, they messed up. They’ll probably learn a lesson: numbers can’t make up for absolute power against supernatural beings."
"I originally planned to give him an escape route," Yang Xiaojin added, surprised: "I didn’t expect him to plan on wiping out the entire Dawn Group."
"That kid’s got a killer instinct," Luo Xinyu said: "You could tell from his eyes on Jing Shan Road. Anyone who poses a threat, he instinctively wants to eliminate. Supernatural beings from the wilderness are usually harsher than those in the Bi Lei."
"He’s just trying to survive," Yang Xiaojin said: "It’s a product of his environment."
"Why are you defending him?" Luo Xinyu laughed: "He’s already formidable. With Chen Wudi, whose combat strength is unknown, by his side, they’re a strong team. Should we draw Li’s and your Yang Clan’s attention to them, to divert some focus?"
"They just want to live peacefully in the Bi Lei. Don’t stir up trouble for them," Yang Xiaojin said calmly.
"Hahahaha," Luo Xinyu laughed, though she hadn’t meant it seriously—just testing the waters.
Yang Xiaojin remained composed: "It’s odd, though. No one knows his true abilities yet."
"Don’t you know what his power is?" Luo Xinyu asked curiously.
"How would I know?" Yang Xiaojin shot her a glance.
"You two are so close. Didn’t he tell you?" Luo Xinyu chuckled: "Classmates, one a study committee member, the other a class monitor..."
Yang Xiaojin glanced at her: "Li’s combat forces are arriving. Let’s go."
"Fine, fine," Luo Xinyu opened a shadow gate and whisked Yang Xiaojin away in a flash.
That night, even Yang Xiaojin and Luo Xinyu were surprised by Ren Xiaosu’s strength—they’d guessed he was supernatural, but not this powerful.
During his fight with the Dawn Group, Ren Xiaosu felt something off. They seemed so flamboyant, not particularly strong, yet they acted so arrogantly.
But there was a misunderstanding. The other side was actually quite renowned—their squad had already captured three supernatural beings.
Ordinarily, this team was the main force of Huosheng Company’s second tier.
...
That night, the Li Clan unexpectedly declared martial law across the entire Bi Lei, and during this critical period, they even imposed a curfew—anyone caught outside after 10 PM would be arrested as criminals!
Originally, the Li Clan didn’t want to spread their forces. They aimed to protect their research, the most pressing matter.
But incidents in the Bi Lei were increasing. Even the most patient couldn’t sit idly by.
In truth, Luo Lan’s constant provocations were meant to pressure the Li Clan into splitting their forces.
And Ren Xiaosu’s battle that night finally pushed the Li Clan over the edge.
Before dawn, large squads of soldiers patrolled the streets, stopping to question suspicious individuals.
Private forces and the Order Department had halted all leave, and a third of Li’s combat sequence was deployed. The entire Bi Lei suddenly felt like it was preparing for war—the once-loose string now taut.
In the shop, Ren Xiaosu sensed the tense atmosphere outside. The Bi Lei seemed to hold the ominous feeling of an impending storm.
