Chapter 775: Good Service Attitude
"Calculating the time, they should be here by now," Deacon Liu of the chamber of commerce muttered secretly to himself.
As a deacon, he was not required to stand at the front counter, but today was exceptional; there could be no carelessness.
He maintained a private cooperation with the Four Thieves of Juxuan Island. Although his cultivation level was low, his status within the Golden Currency Chamber of Commerce, coupled with the leverage he held over the thieves, ensured they dared not harm him. Their relationship was one of equal partnership.
Of course, the Four Thieves of Juxuan Island held leverage over him as well.
According to the plan, the four thieves would come to the chamber of commerce today to deposit a coffin.
Generally speaking, the chamber would never provide services for storing a coffin; after all, it was not a funeral parlor. Thus, he had spent the entire day here, waiting for the arrival of the Four Thieves of Juxuan Island so he could receive them personally.
"Old Liu, the president has called all members above the rank of deacon for a brief meeting," another deacon called out to him.
Deacon Liu frowned, not expecting the president to call a meeting at such a critical moment. He wanted to refuse, but feared revealing a flaw; the president despised nothing more than an absentee.
What a nuisance. Once I obtain the dragon race's ultimate treasure, I shall resign.
It seemed this matter could only be entrusted to a subordinate, yet he could not explicitly command them to accept a coffin. That would be far too blatant and bound to raise questions.
Turning to a delicate young woman, he instructed with earnest emphasis, "Su Yu, you must remember that the purpose of our chamber is to serve the customers. No matter what request they make, we must satisfy them to the best of our ability. Do you understand?"
Su Yu had not expected the usually cold Deacon Liu to offer her guidance. Deeply moved, she replied hastily, "Deacon Liu, I will remember."
Deacon Liu nodded; it was well that she remembered.
"Old Liu, hurry up and move," his friend urged.
"Coming."
After a quarter of an hour, the meeting concluded. He did not question Su Yu, choosing instead to make a round through the warehouse.
"There is no coffin in the warehouse yet; it seems they have not arrived."
Returning to the front counter, Deacon Liu dismissed Su Yu. "Very well, Su Yu, I am here now. You may go back and rest."
Su Yu was an outsider after all; she could not be allowed to see the Four Thieves of Juxuan Island, lest it introduce unwanted variables.
Deacon Liu stood at the front counter. Not two minutes had passed before he saw Lu Yang and his three companions enter the chamber, carrying a coffin on their shoulders.
"Excuse me, is it possible to store a coffin here?" Meng Jingzhou inquired. Being the most familiar with the chamber of commerce, he was responsible for the liaison.
Deacon Liu thought to himself that these were unfamiliar faces, meaning they had arrived in disguise, which showed commendable caution.
He flashed a knowing smile, feigning ignorance of Lu Yang and his companions, and treated them as ordinary guests. "Naturally. This chamber provides every service within its power. Storing a coffin, is it? It can be done."
Meng Jingzhou was slightly surprised. He had not expected the East Sea branch of the chamber to possess such an excellent sense of service; he had anticipated a polite refusal.
He had already prepared himself to find an inn to house the coffin, though an inn might not agree either, but he could have tried offering more spiritual stones.
If all else failed, they would simply have to keep carrying it. He cared little for the judgment of the world, but Man Gu was rather thin-skinned.
"How many days do the four honored guests intend to store it?"
"Our plan is three days, though it is hard to say. We may extend the time depending on the circumstances. After all, we still do not know what the situation is like on the dragon race's side. How many spiritual stones?" Meng Jingzhou said casually, still uncertain how long the dragon blood mission would take.
Deacon Liu understood. It seemed they too did not know when the storm would blow over.
Hearing Meng Jingzhou ask about the price, Deacon Liu felt a sudden jolt in his heart. Accepting spiritual stones required a record in the ledger. Wait, the Four Thieves of Juxuan Island were not ignorant of the rules. Could they be using this method to imply that everyone was bound to the same fate, warning him not to dream of secretly transferring the treasure away?
"Three hundred spiritual stones."
Meng Jingzhou casually drew out three mid-grade spiritual stones.

"Ah, handle the coffin gently; what lies inside is no dead man," Lu Yang cautioned as Deacon Liu went to move the coffin.
Deacon Liu was not surprised. He smiled calmly and handled it with gentle care. How could he not know that the coffin contained the ultimate treasure of the dragon race? This object was worth more than his own life.
Having seen off Lu Yang and his companions, someone called out to Deacon Liu once more.
"Old Liu, the vice president says all members above the rank of deacon must gather to study the spirit of the previous meeting."
"Coming. Su Yu, keep an eye on the front counter."
"Understood, Deacon Liu."
A few more minutes passed, and the Four Thieves of Juxuan Island stealthily entered the chamber, carrying their coffin.
"Strange, where is Old Liu? Didn't we agree he would wait for us here?" the eldest brother wondered, baffled to find only a young girl at the counter.
"May I ask what business the four honored guests have?" Su Yu greeted them with a formal, respectful bow.
Could this be someone arranged by Old Liu? The eldest brother inquired half-skeptically, "We have come to store a coffin here. Is that permissible?"
Su Yu was on the verge of refusing when she recalled Deacon Liu's instructions regarding service attitude and satisfying the customers' needs. She put on a smile, natural and sweet. "Naturally, it is permissible."
The eldest brother concluded that this was indeed Old Liu's arrangement, otherwise the chamber would never have agreed so readily.
Allowing this young girl to deal with them was likely to prevent the dragon race from tracing the matter back to him; he was quite prudent.
"May I ask how many days the four of you intend to store it?"
"We will store it for three days first, and extend it depending on the situation later," the eldest brother estimated. The dragon race would likely search for only three or four days. If they found nothing during this period, they would inevitably suspect the treasure had been taken elsewhere, and the maritime market would no longer be so dangerous.
Of course, if the dragon race proved overly suspicious, it would matter little to leave it stored for a few extra days; he could afford to wait.
"Very well, that will be three hundred spiritual stones in total." Su Yu smiled politely. She would collect three hundred stones first; if it exceeded three days, it would be an additional one hundred per day. Such was the rule.
"We still have to pay?" the eldest brother thought to himself. What kind of arrangement had Old Liu made? To charge money for such a secretive matter?
Then, the eldest brother understood. This was Deacon Liu using the young girl's mouth to warn them that once the matter concluded, the agreed-upon benefits could not be lessened by a single fraction.
The eldest brother pulled out three hundred spiritual stones and handed them to the girl. "Your share will not be lacking."
"Right, remember to handle it gently and don't make too much noise. After all, this is something that cannot see the light of day," the eldest brother reminded Su Yu to be careful, feeling that the girl's movements were somewhat too large, which could easily draw the attention of onlookers.
"Understood."
Su Yu appeared delicate and frail, yet her strength was considerable. She moved the coffin into the warehouse with gentle care. Recalling the words of the Four Thieves of Juxuan Island, she fetched a piece of black cloth and draped it over the coffin.
"Since it cannot see the light of day, it should be covered."
Walking out of the chamber, the youngest brother asked in a whisper, "Eldest Brother, the effects of that pill are far too potent. We only have the power of the Deity Transformation stage now."
He had thought they would only drop by a single realm.
How could the eldest brother know that the black market sold rejected pills refined by the Pill Peak of the Asking Sect? Their effects were either utterly useless or extraordinarily potent.
"Everything is within the plan. This way, the dragon race will certainly never suspect us."
An hour later, Deacon Liu's meeting ended, but he did not return to the front counter.
Since the coffin was stored here, his task for the day was complete.
"Next, we simply wait for the storm to blow over. I hope everything goes smoothly," Deacon Liu murmured to himself.
