Chapter 336: Robbery is Also a Technical Job (Bonus Chapter 18 for Average Subscriptions)
"First up, an old pro is taking you out for a major heist. Who's in?" The Fleeca Job was an absolute must, though it clearly required only a pair of hands.
"Just one spot?" Song Qingfeng's face fell in disappointment.
"Count me in!" Su Tianji said, eager to give it a try.
"Then you go ahead, Sister Su," Song Qingfeng shrugged. "I'll practice my driving first."
Once Boss Fang extended the invitation to Su Tianji, the job officially commenced as Lester arrived at Fang's newly purchased apartment.
Lester was a portly fellow with round-rimmed glasses and a cane, bearing a striking resemblance to a chubby penguin.
Yet no one would ever suspect that such a man was a master hacker and a cunning old fox—responsible for orchestrating not only the various special contracts for online players, but also the major operations in story mode, including that fateful event nine years ago.
As an introductory job for the online mode, it required no intellectual heavy lifting from the players, for Lester had already devised a flawless and meticulous blueprint from the very start.
As he so eloquently put it: "There's no risk involved. Unless you get caught or shot."
"Boss, what exactly are we doing?" Su Tianji asked, still somewhat bewildered by the situation.
"Robbing the rich to help the poor," Boss Fang replied. "Come on, let's just follow this fat guy."
Parked outside was a small blue sedan. The moment Su Tianji laid eyes on the vehicle, she immediately claimed the driver's seat, declaring grandly, "I'm driving!"
"Can you even handle it?" Boss Fang looked at her with pure skepticism.
"Are you questioning my abilities?!" Su Tianji slammed her foot on the accelerator, and the sedan shot forward like an arrow. "Keep your eyes wide open and watch this!"
"Hey! I'm not even in the bloody car yet!" Lester had only just opened the rear door when the car lurched forward, nearly sending him face-first onto the pavement.
Watching the sedan speed away, he was already cursing up a storm.
"...Could you pay a little more attention?" Cold sweat trickled down Boss Fang's face as he watched Su Tianji put the car in reverse a moment later, picking up a sputtering, swearing Lester.
"Boss, where to?" Su Tianji steered onto the road, evidently clueless about their destination.
"Phone navigation!" Boss Fang cast her a look of utter disdain. "Have you even played story mode? Don't you know how to use GPS? Pull up your phone, search for the Fleeca Bank, and just follow the route."
Boss Fang was forced to teach this great cultivator, who knew absolutely nothing about modern technology, how to use a GPS.
"It can do that?" Su Tianji fished out a smartphone that resembled a black brick, finding it utterly miraculous. As she started the route, she indeed saw a highlighted path mapped out on the screen.
"What are you guys playing?" Veterans like Nalan Hongwu would occasionally glance over at their old acquaintances, and this time, his gaze caught upon this bizarre piece of machinery.
"Grand Theft Auto V," Su Tianji said, waving the smartphone. "The boss is taking me to rob the rich and help the poor."
"The boss?"
"Taking you to rob the rich and help the poor?"
Curiosity piqued, several people strolled over just to watch.
Nalan Hongwu also stood behind them to spectate; after all, he hadn't started his own gaming session yet today, so there was no rush.
"Boss, why aren't you playing story mode?" Liu Ningyun asked with a frown, realizing that Boss Fang wasn't using any of the three main protagonists, but rather a custom-made character, with a long-haired beauty sitting right beside him.
"Because this boss is an old pro," Boss Fang replied, looking rather pleased with himself.
Though Boss Fang was an experienced hand, the one behind the wheel was Su Tianji, a novice driver. What followed was a thoroughly terrifying spectacle—on a massive downhill mountain path, the small sedan drove straight off the cliff.
"Ah—!" Back when they used a keyboard and mouse, it didn't feel like much, but experiencing the visceral weightlessness firsthand nearly gave them a heart attack. "Do you even know how to drive?!"
Fortunately, there was another highway directly below. With a resounding crash, nearly all the car windows shattered into pieces. Had they not been wearing seatbelts, they likely would have met their end right then and there.
In the back seat, Lester was foaming at the mouth: "..."
The spectators behind them: "..."
Restarting the checkpoint and bumping along the way, they finally arrived at the Fleeca Bank.
Lester spoke: "I've just patched into their security cameras with my phone. Take a look."
"Small place, security is pretty lax," he quipped. "The employees won't give a damn about this sort of thing, and the customers are probably wondering how to turn this whole ordeal into a movie script."
"Why does this place feel like a..." Su Tianji murmured, "...a money house? Boss, didn't you say we were robbing the rich to help the poor?"
"Have you ever seen anyone richer than a money house?" Boss Fang asked.
Su Tianji blinked, momentarily stunned. "Then who are we helping...?"
Boss Fang shot her a disdainful look. "Look at yourself—wearing a cheap T-shirt and jeans, no car, no house, with barely a few pennies in your pocket. Who do you think?"
"Hahahahaha!" Standing behind them, Nalan Hongwu laughed so hard he could barely catch his breath. "Elder Su was actually tricked by the Fang kid into robbing a bank?"
"This is your idea of robbing the rich to help the poor? Hahaha!" An Huwei also wandered over to watch the fun.
"What's so funny?!" Su Tianji huffed coldly. "What's the big deal? It's just a bank. Let's get one thing straight first, how much do I get as my cut?"
Boss Fang's face was a picture of contempt. "You managed to kill our strategist inside the car just by driving. How much do you think you deserve? If this were reality, having a teammate like you..."
"You'd drag the whole squad into the grave." Boss Fang shrugged. "Robbing is an art form, you know!"
"..." Boss Fang's words cut deep. Su Tianji silently resolved to show him what she was truly capable of in a moment.
Lester quickly bypassed the security system and gained access to all the camera feeds. The phone displayed: "Those safety deposit boxes are right behind a security door. We want box number 167."
The details were absurdly thorough.
Practically every single step was mapped out, and on the technical front, he provided immensely powerful support: "I've written a rather amusing little program. It should take care of most of the heavy lifting for you."
Next came the tutorial on how to use this hacking software. This was clearly the crucial part; without Lester's technical expertise, it would be impossible for Boss Fang to pull off a major heist.
This version was far more complex than the original game, but it was nothing Boss Fang couldn't handle.
With the reconnaissance complete, certain details and preparations were left to Paige, an assistant Lester had brought in. Boss Fang and Su Tianji were clearly meant to be the muscle—for instance, stealing a Kuruma.
It was a highly practical armored vehicle, an absolutely essential step of the plan. Without an armored car, the two of them could never make it out alive.
"Why don't we liberate one from a group of troublesome Koreans? We'll leave obvious clues behind and let them take the fall." It was clear Lester had anticipated every subsequent step with meticulous precision.
"Got a gun?" Boss Fang inquired.
"Of course." Su Tianji brandished a small pistol. "That black fellow gave me one."
"Stock up on ammo," Boss Fang said with grand bravado. "Two pistols against an entire regiment. Feeling confident?"
Su Tianji: "..."
