Chapter 687: Warsong Gulch, the First Battlefield Journey Begins
The entire internet cafe was already buzzing with excitement, and once such a marvel was discovered, word naturally spread like wildfire.
Of course, to them, this was simply par for the course.
At that moment, a good number of players in the old shop were engrossed in Nalan Mingxue's live stream.
"Didn't they say there were elves? How come we haven't seen any?"
People had gathered in the stream quite early on, clearly finding great bliss in slurping down instant noodles while watching the broadcast at this hour.
A reply soon flickered across the bullet screen.
"Maybe they haven't logged on yet, what's the rush?"
"They're on! They're on!"
Nalan Mingxue opened her friends list, and the names of several elves lit up one after another.
"Are you all up this early too?" Sera offered a friendly greeting.
The long-distance communication in this system version of World of Warcraft was quite similar to the original, appearing in text format within the interface that could be summoned.
"Yes, no classes this morning," Nalan Mingxue's reply came swiftly.
"Classes?" Sera found it rather strange. "Are you still studying at an academy? Little kids, teehee!"
Many players from the old shop were watching the stream, and the bullet screen instantly erupted with activity:
"Hahaha, little kids!"
"Is this an elf? The way she talks is so amusing!"
"Grandmaster Chuxue, ask her how old she is. She doesn't look any older herself!"
"She looks even younger than Grandmaster Chuxue, hahaha!"
The stream was filled with mirth so early in the morning.
Nalan Mingxue sent a message back: "My friend says you might be younger than me."
"How is that possible?!" Sera replied boastfully. "This elf has lived for over a hundred years! You can call me Big Sister Sera!"
Perhaps many women cared deeply about the matter of age, but the exception lay with most young maidens, who instead fretted that they were not yet mature enough.
Though a century was a grand age to a human, for an elf, it was merely the equivalent of being a teenager.
"Over a hundred years old would be called an Auntie at least where we come from (manual doge)," Nalan Mingxue's reply arrived shortly.
On the bullet screen:
"Grandmaster Chuxue's razor-tongue trait remains unchanged."
"An auntie? I reckon the elf is about to start cursing."
"Does this mean we can call Elder Su 'Auntie Su' too?"
"Are you serious, person upstairs? Careful, or Elder Su might instantly manifest behind you and blow your head off."
"I'm not afraid, I'm actually her senior brother..."
"Pfft... did we just fish out the Sect Master of the Liuyun Daoist Palace?"
"..." Sera typed back while hastening toward the Undercity. "You can go ahead with your quests, I'll be there shortly."
"No need, we're lost here too. Let me study it first."
"Alright then..."
...
While the few of them were wandering about the Undercity, over on the other side, Mr. De of the Orc race was playing with immense gusto. A gray tail peeked out from behind his clothes, wagging back and forth. "This Orgrimmar is simply too vast. I'm feeling a bit dizzy from all the turning; let me look at the map for a moment."
"Where is Mr. De?"
Someone inquired via the magical letter interface, for not every viewer tuned in every day, and clearly this individual had missed yesterday's broadcast.
"Has he returned to the Orc Kingdom?" — from "The Greatsword of Korima"
"This is a recently released secret realm. It seems to be a giant secret realm specially crafted by the 'Blizzard Workshop' over on the Eastern Continent. The person above definitely wasn't here yesterday." — from "The Eye of Observation"
"Heavens! This is a secret realm too?"
"Does the Eastern Continent have such a mega-scale production workshop as well? But why is the style so similar to an orc city?" — from "The Greatsword of Korima"
"This is an orc city! Every race has their own city in the secret realm!" — from "The Eye of Observation"
"Really? This city looks exactly like a real one! Are you certain there are many cities like this?"
While they were discussing animatedly, Mr. De wandered for quite a while, guiding his new viewers through a vast sweep of Orgrimmar's scenery. "I seem to be in this... Valley of Honor? There are so many military officers here, it looks like some important stronghold, but they didn't stop me from entering. Will there be some relatively important quests?"
"Let me ask these soldiers." Mr. De was an orc warrior bearing a two-handed sword, currently controlling a small level-ten-or-so orc as he stepped into the Valley of Honor.
The surroundings were filled with tent-like structures constructed from iron and giant stones. "They seem to be talking about a... battlefield? I suppose this is the place where they deal with those Alliance folks."
"Should I join?" Mr. De mused. "Though it looks dangerous, resurrection is possible here, and those officers seemed to say I'll only be matched against opponents of the same level. Shall I go in and give it a try?"
"Are we about to see Mr. De slaughtering all sides?" — from "White Tulip"
"An opponent of the same level, does that mean an opponent of equal strength? Then what is there to fear?" — from "The Greatsword of Korima"
"Orcs fear nothing! Fighting wild beasts all the time is boring. I feel there's finally a chance to display Mr. De's prowess and let them witness the might of the Orc race's sword techniques." — from "Wolfhead"
"That depends on whether Mr. De is playing or Mr. Kobold. Mr. Kobold might just make an embarrassment of himself." — from "The Knights of the Sky Sea"
Mr. De's viewers divided him into two personas: one was the powerful Mr. De, and the other was the embarrassing Mr. Kobold. Though they were in fact the same person, whenever Mr. De made a blunder, the viewers would declare that he was "being controlled by the embarrassing kobold."
At this moment, all the viewers saw that Mr. De had agreed to join this battlefield.
In World of Warcraft, one could join the first battlefield, known as Warsong Gulch, upon reaching level ten to serve one's faction. Though the system version of the game had been made as realistic as possible, since it was a game after all, certain conveniences for players remained unchanged.
Take the battlefield for instance: Warsong Gulch was a small-scale battlefield that naturally did not require too many people, so it utilized a setting similar to the dungeons in Dungeon & Fighter. Each group of Alliance and Horde players entering the battlefield belonged to a separate, isolated instance.
The battlefield of the current stage of the system's World of Warcraft was divided into tiers for every five levels, meaning you would not encounter opponents five levels higher than you. For players, experience points were rewarded regardless of victory or defeat, making it an absolute prime location for tempering combat techniques.
"It seems there's still a wait?" At this juncture, though many players had reached the required level, not many had discovered the battlefield.
"Hmm...?" Mr. De suddenly felt his body grow light, as though he were being teleported to some unfamiliar place. "I'm in! I seem to have entered this battlefield! Let's see what a battlefield in World of Warcraft is truly all about."
Before his eyes lay a modest stone chamber, with quite a few other players around him, who had evidently also discovered this battlefield mode and joined immediately.
...
At the Jiuhua City shop.
"Hmm...?" At this moment, Nalan Mingxue cast a strange glance at her surroundings.
On the bullet screen:
"Where is this?"
"How come she looks like she's been teleported to another place?"
Nalan Mingxue said, "I seem to have been teleported to another place, it looks like I've entered some Warsong Gulch? That officer was just introducing this to me, how did it happen so fast?"
