Chapter 716: A Simple Hero Story

Above the city, crumbling into a landscape of ruins, eyes turned upward to a colossal tear in the sky, from which gargantuan battleships began to emerge.

Even the lowliest foot soldiers brandished horrific energy weapons, firing pale blue beams that could pierce clean through an entire skyscraper with a single blast.

Claiming to be part of the "universe's immune system" sent to eradicate disorder and free will, the Chitauri were a genuinely terrifying nightmare of an evil legion.

Using the Tesseract procured by Loki to open the portal, they flooded into the skies over Earth in an endless, unyielding stream.

Their vessels possessed the supple, undulating forms of fish, resembling gargantuan deep-sea whales soaring through the heavens.

Every single one of these ships was easily the size of an aircraft carrier.

More frightening still, this alien technology was far more complex than simple machinery.

Forests of high-rise buildings were sliced open by their razor-sharp fins as easily as bean curd, and with each sweep of a massive tail, countless structures collapsed like falling dominoes.

These bizarre vessels, half-mechanical and half-biological, were like cosmic behemoths taking flight, ruthlessly dismantling the city while soldiers on small skiffs rained down a dense, locust-like swarm of destructive light, slaughtering every living creature in sight.

Six superheroes stood directly beneath that roaring portal.

The film evidently eschewed traditional conventions that initially framed heroes as a weak, helpless minority.

Instead, it highlighted their immense power through a brilliant undercurrent of humor.

To the point where the onlookers, watching passively, could not help but marvel at the humans of this "Earth."

"How can there be humans this powerful on this 'Earth'?!" shouted Elder Thorg, the dwarf leader.

"And there is more than one!" Whether it was the unfathomable energy generated by Iron Man's arc reactor or the Hulk's pure, terrifying strength that could overpower a god...

Even those slightly below them, like Hawkeye and Captain America, were forces to be reckoned with.

They had initially assumed Thor, being a god, would serve as the sole primary force, only to realize now that nearly every one of them was a main pillar.

Now, watching these heroes assemble to confront the crisis hand in hand.

Despite never having seen the previous installments, the patrons of the new Canglan City shop found themselves growing utterly exhilarated.

At the same time, an intense curiosity bloomed regarding the heroes' pasts—just what kind of history had forged them into figures of such immense power?!

They were no longer watching with the same dread they held for evil deities, a mix of fear and curiosity akin to modern audiences viewing a horror film.

"Call it, Captain."

Deep within the cosmic void beyond the portal, a mothership countless times larger than the battleships loomed in the profound darkness, still deploying an unending stream of vessels.

"Listen up! Until we can close that portal, our priority is containment!"

"Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything, call out patterns and strays."

"Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything that gets outside three blocks, you turn it around or you turn it to ash."

Orders were handed down in succession, and of course, the God of Thunder was not left out.

"Thor, you gotta try and bottleneck that portal. Slow 'em down!"

As the film reached its crescendo, the audience from another world became entirely spellbound.

"Hulk!"

With a deafening, thunderous roar, that massive green form launched like a cannonball, shattering the pavement and instantly crushing the airborne soldiers in his bare hands, the powerful energy beams from their skiffs failing to even scratch his thick skin!

It seemed nothing could withstand that sheer force; metal, stone, and the battleships carrying the Chitauri legions were all smashed to splinters by those two massive, iron fists!

In the sky, storm clouds surged as countless lightning bolts wove a massive web of destruction, thick pillars of lightning striking fiercely at the portal under the command of Mjolnir, detonating the newly arrived giant vessels into a raging cloud of fire within the blink of an eye, sending a meteor shower of burning debris raining down!

Thunderous light intertwined with fire, looking as though countless magnificent fireworks were blooming across the sky.

Elsewhere, as Barton unleashed arrow after arrow, airborne skiffs erupted into fireball after fireball, flame and light weaving through the cityscape as the artistry of explosion met destruction, staging an otherworldly spectacle of speed and fury.

It was, without a question, a magnificent visual feast.

"Wow!" A group of elves, dwarves, and knights found themselves thinking... how could watching a war feel this incredibly satisfying?!

"Nom nom nom!" Jiang Xiaoyue took a massive bite of potato chips bought from "My Space," watching *The Avengers* with absolute relish.

Evidently, the players from the old shop were a bit more composed, yet they remained thoroughly entertained by this novel and humorous film.

Unexpectedly, a hand reached into the chip bag beside her, snatching a handful.

"Xiaoyue, this original flavor isn't that great. Why didn't you buy the cucumber flavor?" Owner Fang remarked as he chewed.

"You say it's not great after eating it all!" How infuriating! Stealing this princess's chips every single day!

By this time, the battle was drawing to its final act.

Though the Chitauri legions entering Earth through the portal had been decimated multiple times, the ships deployed from the mothership in the void remained relentless, seemingly infinite.

More and more skiffs swarmed like a heavy black cloud, surrounding the Hulk in a tight formation as energy beams poured down like a torrential rainstorm.

Even the energy of an arc reactor could not endure a war of this magnitude indefinitely; after downing several cosmic behemoths of the Chitauri fleet, Stark's power reserves were beginning to run dangerously low.

It was at this moment that the military deployed their most terrifying weapon.

A white missile, trailing a long plume of flame like a rocket, soared toward the city—a nightmare belonging to both humanity and its foes alike.

The power of a nuclear warhead, especially when backed by a level of technology far superior to the world Owner Fang lived in before his crossover, was undeniably more devastating.

No one, friend or foe, would be spared.

Watching Iron Man intercept the missile's trajectory alone, ultimately pushing it to alter its course and guiding it through to the other side of the portal, the audience perhaps finally understood the meaning of a "hero."

A journey with no return, a price that ordinary souls could scarcely ever bring themselves to pay.

From humor to passion, and ultimately to tragic heroism, yes, this was a very simple story of heroes.

It might indeed be a very basic superhero movie, but simplicity possessed its own virtues; at least everyone understood its humor, laughing along, and grasped the core message it intended to convey.

On the other side of the portal, nuclear fusion turned the entire mothership into a sea of flames, dissolving it forever into the void.

"Ah! So this 'Iron Man' didn't actually die?!" Several elves cried out in pleasant surprise, watching the final scene.
