Chapter 747: Miracle! (Asking for Monthly Tickets)
At that moment, I understood: we were not called transcendent and holy because we were powerful, but because we stood above those weaker than us, who looked up to us and bestowed upon us the title of ‘Saint.’ Yet when faced with an existence far stronger than ourselves, we too grow weak, we too despair, and we lose our composure just like ordinary men. Transcendence and holiness are nothing more than an ignorant, foolish joke.
“For we are still but mortals, still the weak ones.” Despair saturated the entire battlefield. Perhaps one day, a divine miracle would descend once more from the Peak of the Gods—the supreme zenith of the continent—to drive these horrific monsters away, but that no longer had anything to do with them.
His arm trembling, the Sword Saint Wilson propped his body up with his blade, struggling to rise from the ground.
This man, who had always maintained a flawless aristocratic composure, was now in such a wretched state, his body covered in shocking, gruesome wounds: “...But we are already the absolute pinnacle of power...”
The edge of his sword swept through the air, leaving a flurry of brilliant, floating blossoms of blood. That rapier, which looked as though it were meant only for noble decoration, still unleashed a terrifying might in his hands.
They, the remaining commanders of the various nations, charged time and again, only to plunge into a deeper despair with each successive assault.
Yet all of this vanished the moment that newly arrived demon spirit was severed cleanly into two halves.
It was like... a declaration of war.
Yes, a declaration of war.
He did not even dare to imagine who else on this battlefield, or across this entire continent, would possess the audacity to declare war by slaying a commander of the Shadow Legion.
Not just him—even the remaining leaders of the Shadow Legion were momentarily frozen in sheer bewilderment by this spectacle.
Meanwhile, everyone within the Grand Council Chamber of the Allied Nations stared at the scene, completely dumbfounded.
Just who on earth was that?!
Suddenly, they heard the distant, rumbling thunder of hooves, and along the far horizon, a peculiar host gradually came into view.
They were distinctly partitioned: there were beastmen of various forms, stout and sturdy dwarves, well-equipped elves, and a group of figures clad in white hoods who looked neither entirely like mages nor fully like warriors.
The most conspicuous among them was the young man at the very front; he possessed no flying mount, but stood directly upon his sword, yet his speed surpassed that of any airborne magical beast.
“Eh—! Those look like my people!?” Within the council chamber, from the seats belonging to the elven race, a figure draped in a magnificent, pale-green braided gown let out a cry. Those eyes, as beautiful as the mirror-lakes of the Silver Moon Forest, widened as they stared intently at the image projected by the magic.
“I think I see Elder Thork!” From the dwarven seating, a majestic and stocky dwarf, clad in robes of magical beast fur with a rugged and heroic countenance, chimed in.
“If I may speak frankly,” Saint Durance spoke up, “if I were you, I would recall them immediately. Going to reinforce them now is no different from seeking death; even the chance to cover their retreat has long since passed.”
Up in the sky, the grandest figure seated upon the back of the demonic dragon—who had refrained from striking thus far, supervising the entire war like some demon god—likewise noticed the anomaly on the other side.
But... the mortal allied forces, who did not belong to the divine kingdom, were already utterly routed and broken. They possessed more than enough energy and strength to turn around and deal with these fellows who, in everyone’s eyes, were vastly overestimating themselves.
“What do they think they are doing!?” At this time, the other Saint-level powerhouses who had previously participated in the battle had already retreated and were currently taking part in this meeting regarding the establishment of a new defensive line.
The Sword Saint Cleous snorted coldly, “We didn’t see a glimpse of them earlier, and now they choose to rush over? Did they make this special trip just to throw their lives away?”
He was clearly displeased by their failure to arrive in a timely manner.
Furthermore... what we, so many Saint-level powerhouses, failed to accomplish, do you ragtag, colorful misfits think you can pull off? Are you trying to humiliate me?!
“Forgive my bluntness,” the World Mage Hermadon smiled, “I have no intention of belittling the elven and dwarven armies, but judging by the prior circumstances, I still believe they might not last five minutes.”
“...” Actually, we think so too.
At this moment, the Dwarven King and the Elven Queen felt exactly that way deep down.
What in the world are you trying to do? How can anyone make sense of this maneuver?
And right now, the two armies were on the verge of clashing.
“Shield Wall!” A sudden shout echoed from the heavens. At this time, Command had already shifted to Owner Fang, who clearly intended to temporarily unify and dispatch these beastmen, elves, and dwarves; only Owner Fang was capable of achieving this.
Differing from the original game where a glowing shield would light up above their heads, the thick ‘Qi’ within their bodies surged into the shields in their hands, instantly transforming into a blinding white light—a colossally thick shield that resembled a solid wall!
Immediately afterward, they witnessed a scene that forced them to doubt their very eyes.
Boom! Boom! Boom...!
Obstructed by that thick, wall-like colossus of a shield wall, the Shadow Legion—surging like a torrential flood that none had previously been able to withstand—was entirely halted outside the barrier. Even that terrifying black deluge seemed to have struck an insurmountable dam, coming to a dead stop!
“Blizzard! Blizzard!”
As the mages in the rear chanted, the air suddenly began to solidify. The temperature, plunging to freezing point, rapidly condensed the moisture in the atmosphere. The rain clouds in the sky swiftly froze into thick blocks of ice which, accelerated by gravity, crashed down into the ranks of the Shadow Legion like a barrage of falling meteors. Whether in the sky or on the ground, no one could evade such a dense assault.
The beastmen warriors who followed surged forth like tigers released from their cages, the great hammers and giant axes in their hands bearing a fury that seemed intent on cleaving primal chaos itself as they slaughtered their foes.
“How is this possible...!?” The defeat within five minutes that they had anticipated did not occur; instead, they actually witnessed this crowd they had deemed a ‘rabble’ seizing the upper hand!
Furthermore... where did so many beastmen come from?!
Hadn't the Beastman Kingdom been nearly annihilated?!
For the human allied forces deep within their death match, such a sight was nothing less than a glimmer of dawn glimpsed through the pitch-black darkness of despair.
“Comrades, pull yourselves together!” the Sword Saint Wilson roared. “Though we do not know who is aiding us, there is no doubt that this is a powerful army. Rouse your spirits! Do not let them look down on us!”
“Keep close! We fight our way out!”
“Kill!” Having endured utter despair, they finally beheld hope at this very moment. Bearing an unspeakable excitement within their hearts, they fought frantically to break the perimeter.
Yet how arduous was it to traverse the entire battlefield? They would likely perish on the spot long before completing such a grand feat.
Owner Fang naturally noticed the situation on this side as well.
“Healers, pay attention and keep close! Push through!”
This army was like a sharp arrow, piercing straight into the enemy’s heart!
Yet just as they were about to converge with the remaining human allied forces, Saint Durance let out a cold laugh: “Is this commander a pig?”
If they had maintained their previous formation, they might still have a chance to win, but now they had actually disrupted their own lines?!
Moreover, they had allowed everyone to fall into an encirclement by an enemy that vastly outnumbered them!
“Boss, the situation doesn’t look good...” Everyone watched their surroundings with anxiety.
“Young people will be young people.”
“Fools!”
At this moment, even the figures high in the sky within the Shadow Legion wore cruel smiles: “His head is mine.”
“Ah...” Owner Fang nodded.
Suddenly, everyone witnessed a spectacle they would never forget for the rest of their lives: the dark clouds in the sky seemed to be forced open by a brilliant light, and a silhouette seemed to step forth from within the radiance. Holy light spilled across the earth, its sacred splendor banishing all calamity and suffering!
Figure after figure inexplicably pushed themselves up from the ground, all fatigue and agony seemingly vanishing into nothingness.
In this split second, the soldiers of the human allied forces actually birthed a subconscious urge to prostrate themselves in worship—it was a shock born from the depths of their souls!
Beholding this scene that mirrored a divine miracle, everyone within the Grand Council Chamber of the Allied Nations instantly stood up from their seats in sheer shock!
The smile on Saint Durance’s face froze entirely.
It was a terror they had never experienced before!
