Chapter 351: Heart Turbidity
Chapter 351: The Heart-Turbid
Seeing the blade about to pierce the Twin Gods, the copper coin sword in Li Huowang’s hand instantly lengthened, the coins linking into a line as they whipped away Hong Da’s rusty saber like a long lash.
"Wait!" His expression exceptionally grave, Li Huowang rushed over at once and barred the path between the two factions. "Everyone! She is not the Heart-Turbid! She is my wife!"
Lowering the decayed wooden ruyi in his hand, the Prothonotary asked with some doubt, "Your wife? This house does not believe it! Have your lady take off her red bridal veil, lest some Heart-Turbid is trying to slip through under false pretenses."
Before Li Huowang could even agree, Shentu Gang gave the leather drum at his waist a gentle tap with his hand, and the Twin Gods immediately struck back in response, the drumming echoing as if they were negotiating something.
When the drumming ceased, the Twin Gods reached up with one hand and tore the red bridal veil straight off.
"Oh, Holy Mother! What on earth is that! Brother Er, is this truly your wife?" Looking at the terrifying visage of the Twin Gods, where a human face and a beastly face were melded together, the others were clearly startled out of their wits.
Li Huowang had no time to worry about them; instead, he pulled the Twin Gods a few paces away and asked with a heavy expression, "Why are you here? Where is Miaomiao? Did she follow you?"
The Twin Gods first shook their head, then leaned in trembling, wrapping both arms tightly around Li Huowang’s waist in a death grip. Within those feline beast-eyes, which were three times larger than a normal human's, shone a fanatical, obsessive love. "Husband... your concubine missed you."
Sharp fangs nibbled delicately against Li Huowang’s neck, and two tongues twined and slithered out from within, continuously licking and stroking his throat.
"Have you had enough!" Bracing her straight with both hands, Li Huowang stared deathly at her with a grim face and said, "I have no time to mess around with you right now. It is very dangerous here, leave immediately!!"
"Husband, are you worried about me?" The Twin Gods’ gaping, bloody maw split all the way back to the roots of her ears.
His expression exceptionally grave, Li Huowang stepped closer, first cradling her head, then staring into the largest eye on her face, enunciating each word: "Leave here! Right now!!"
"Alright." A long tongue swiped across Li Huowang’s face, and with a bizarre smile on her visage, the Twin Gods turned and departed from the village.
"Mother?" The voice by his ear made Li Huowang’s complexion look even uglier. "Shut up, she is not your mother!"
"Brother Er, she is truly your lady?" Tuoba Danqing was so shocked that he even stopped rolling the two patinated walnuts in his hand.
Before Li Huowang could speak, the spirit-medium named Shentu Gang spoke up, his tone exceedingly unfriendly. "What? Do you fucking have an issue with that?"
After speaking, Shentu Gang jerked his chin toward Li Huowang. "The big sister is not bad. Don't let her down."
"Oh dear, oh dear, alright, alright, let's move quickly. Did you all come here to perform official duties or to go on a spring outing?" With an anxious expression, the Prothonotary began to urge them impatiently.
Li Huowang cast a glance in the direction where the Twin Gods had vanished, collected his mind, and followed the Prothonotary and the others into the village.
There was no telling if that woman would listen to him; he had better finish the job quickly and leave this place, lest Miaomiao get dragged into it.
The Prothonotary’s golden abacus began to clack once more, clicking in tandem with the sound of Tuoba Danqing rolling his walnuts, echoing continuously within the village.
Li Huowang put aside the stray thoughts in his heart, remaining vigilant at every moment for the Heart-Turbid that might appear.
As they walked, a collapsed earthen courtyard appeared on their left, and beneath a heavily fruited pomegranate tree stood several figures.
After careful discernment, Li Huowang discovered those were not humans, but rather vines and weeds gathered into human shapes, trimmed immaculately beside it.
Just as Li Huowang was wondering if these figures were created by the Heart-Turbid, the two small rusty sabers in Hong Da’s hands had already been hurled over, directly mincing those humanoid plants into shreds that flew all over the sky.
"...Ah..." An extremely shrill scream rang out from the depths of the settlement.
"Go! Keep up!" Shentu Gang, who had done nothing the entire time, began to move, charging toward that direction with huge strides.
As he charged, he also violently slapped the leather drum at his waist with his hand, beginning to perform his spirit-medium dance.
The soldier-summoning incantation in his mouth was completely different from either Li Zhi's in the past or Bai Lingmiao's before, his tone sounding exceptionally overbearing and domineering.
"By imperial decree from above, the ghosts and gods descend to the capital, devouring demons and swallowing monsters, peace to the four quarters!! Invoke the immortals and the immortals shall respond, invoke the gods and the gods shall listen!!"
Suddenly, Li Huowang felt as though all the colors in his surroundings began to fade.
A layer of goosebumps involuntarily rose across Li Huowang’s body; he knew something was coming, but he did not know what it was.
This spirit-medium named Shentu Gang was clearly out of the ordinary, possessing a strength perhaps akin to when Danyangzi was still alive; there was no telling where the Prothonotary had invited him from.
"Er Jiu! Lease my saber!" One of Hong Da’s rusty sabers was thrust before Li Huowang, and Li Huowang nodded, swiftly taking hold of it.
The screaming abruptly died down, but the Prothonotary and Shentu Gang had clearly locked onto the Heart-Turbid; one beat the drum while the other clicked the abacus, the sounds continuously echoing throughout the entire village, causing the whole place to seem to begin to twist and warp.
Although that Heart-Turbid had still not shown itself, it was plain to see that they had already joined in battle.
Under such circumstances, Li Huowang’s full arsenal of lethal moves was clearly of no use.
Rather than anxiously fretting here, Li Huowang felt he might as well try the only thing he could currently do; he bit through the pad of his finger, writing in sweeping strokes upon the yellow paper.
He did not know if the talisman's divination could play a role under these conditions, but he might as well treat a dead horse as a living one.
Committing to memory the fissures that split across the cranium he brought along, Li Huowang began to scan his surroundings continuously, attempting to find a similar pattern.
Accompanied by all sorts of din, as Li Huowang looked on and on, his gaze suddenly focused on the rusty saber in his hand.
At this moment, the direction pointed straight by the tip of its blade happened to be a spiderweb on a stone well in the distance.
And that spiderweb, broken through by something, happened to be identical to the pattern he had divined.
"Could it be that this rusty saber given by Hong Da also has the ability to enhance divination?" Li Huowang drew his weapon, slowed his pace, and leaned toward the edge of that well.
Carefully picking away those vines and brambles with the rusty saber in his hand, Li Huowang looked down into the well.
In the next instant, his pupils instantly shrank to the absolute smallest; standing in the mire within the well was a person!
Just as that person noticed the light overhead and abruptly snapped their head up, Li Huowang hurriedly averted his gaze to avoid falling prey to the opponent's art.
His heart racing, Li Huowang violently turned his head and shouted loudly to the others, "Quick! There is a..."
Speaking up to this point, Li Huowang froze. "What was I about to say just now? What is here?!"
Hearing the voice, the others cast their gazes toward Li Huowang, and at this time Tuoba Danqing spoke up, asking with great astonishment, "Brother Er, what are you doing standing by the well holding a rusty saber?"
"A rusty saber?" Li Huowang’s gaze swept across Tuoba Danqing, the Prothonotary, and Shentu Gang one by one.
"Yeah, where did this rusty saber come from? When did it get into my hand?"
