Chapter 595: Medicine

Chapter 595: Medicine

In the cafeteria of Kangning Hospital, patients dressed in blue-and-white striped hospital gowns were eating lunch. Among them was Li Huowang, though he had not yet begun to eat.

“Didn’t Yi Donglai communicate with his junior brother? Could there be some mistake?” Looking at the one meat dish and one vegetable dish on his tray, Li Huowang had no appetite at all. His mind was filled with the words Wu Cheng had just spoken.

If not for hearing them clearly, he might have thought he’d misunderstood.

“Just eat first. After you finish, we’ll see what he plans to do.” He stirred the food into his rice and swallowed it quickly, slurping noisily.

Lunch passed swiftly. Li Huowang returned alone to his ward, sat on a chair, and waited for Wu Cheng’s arrival.

He decided to observe first—what exactly did Wu Cheng intend? If things didn’t seem right, he would call Yi Donglai to confirm.

The wait was longer than Li Huowang had expected. It wasn’t until two-thirty in the afternoon that the door finally opened.

“Sorry, I just had a meeting over there and it took a bit longer,” Wu Cheng said with an apologetic smile, brushing his slightly disheveled hair aside as he entered with his tablet.

“No problem. Shall we start now? What should I do?”

“No need to worry. You don’t have to do anything. This is just a simple talk therapy,” Wu Cheng instructed Li Huowang to lie down on the bed, while he himself sat on the stool beside it.

Li Huowang complied. Just as he had settled his nerves, Wu Cheng’s next words made his skin tingle. His right hand instinctively gripped the hilt of the spine sword. “Do you miss that world from time to time?”

“No.”

Wu Cheng nodded upon hearing this and tapped his tablet. “Good. Now close your eyes and relax as much as possible.”

“Very good. Now recall everything from your hallucinations—the vivid details of that other place.”

“……”

“Now forget about modern life. You can no longer feel anything here. You are back in that world, back in Shangjing.”

A trace of struggle appeared on Li Huowang’s face. His hands clenched tightly. He felt his whole body buzzing, as if it were about to split apart.

“Now open your eyes. You’re completely back in this world. Surrounding you are your senior and junior brothers and sisters.”

Li Huowang suddenly opened his eyes wide. With the spine sword in hand, he slashed fiercely at the man before him. “What the hell are you trying to do!”

Wu Cheng was clearly startled by Li Huowang’s raised voice. He gently pushed down the hand reaching toward him. “Li Huowang, you can’t act like this. You won’t pass the evaluation.”

“Wu Cheng, what are you talking about?! Why are you going against Yi Donglai?!”

Li Huowang threw off the blanket and stood up, glaring furiously at him.

“Because I need to confirm whether your illness has truly healed. If your symptoms reappeared so easily, it means your condition hasn’t fully recovered,” Wu Cheng said naturally.

“My illness is cured! I don’t need any more treatment! I’m normal now! My behavior and actions are normal!”

Wu Cheng looked regretfully at Li Huowang on the bed. “Li Huowang, your voice is getting louder again. This test was discussed with Senior Brother Yi.”

Frustrated, Li Huowang gritted his teeth. “Give me your phone. I need to call Yi Donglai!”

“I’m sorry, but not right now. Except for weekly contact with immediate family members, no outside contact is allowed within the hospital. That’s the rule.”

Li Huowang stared at him with unfamiliar eyes, as if the friendly Wu Cheng from earlier that morning was someone else entirely.

“Yi Donglai! Your senior brother! My previous attending physician! Even calling him isn’t allowed?”

“Sorry, but I’m very principled. Rules are rules. Sit down quickly. Let’s continue. Rest assured, I’m doing this for your own good.”

“No! I won’t do it!” Li Huowang answered decisively. “My illness is cured! This kind of testing will only make things worse.”

“Unless you let me speak to Yi Donglai directly—let him personally tell me that such a test is necessary! Otherwise, I won’t cooperate with your treatment!”

Hearing this, Wu Cheng shook his head in disappointment. “If you refuse treatment, your discharge date will be indefinitely postponed.”

With that, Wu Cheng left with his tablet, leaving Li Huowang alone in the ward.

Li Huowang’s lips were sealed, his expression grave as he paced the room. The more he thought, the more suspicious Wu Cheng became.

They had agreed on this. Why did he suddenly change his mind? There must be something fishy!

“Unless... unless... Yes! The monk was right! This Wu Cheng might be working with Wang Wei!!” A determined glint appeared in Li Huowang’s eyes.

At that moment, Li Huowang felt as though a beast had set its sights on him. Wang Wei wasn’t acting alone—he had others behind him!

“What should I do now?” This was the question Li Huowang needed to consider. A flicker of murderous intent involuntarily appeared in his eyes.

No... No way! I can’t do this. If I kill again, I’ll really end up locked away in this psychiatric ward for life.

Thinking this, Li Huowang stared intently at the surveillance camera in the corner of the wall.

Before he knew it, dinner time arrived. As soon as Li Huowang sat down, he immediately sensed something was off. Most of the cafeteria staff were staring at him, their eyes full of caution.

Just then, the young man with bipolar disorder, who had short hair, approached Li Huowang with his tray, curiosity evident on his face.

But before he could get close, a nurse stepped forward and pulled him aside, seemingly discussing something with him.

Seeing this, Li Huowang realized that his security level had likely increased—something far from good.

Half an hour after dinner, it was time for Li Huowang to take his medicine.

But what chilled him was the appearance of a red capsule in his pills—something he had never taken before.

Holding the medicine, Li Huowang looked out the window at the outside world. Suddenly, this clean and bright new environment began to feel hostile to him.

With his back to the camera, Li Huowang shoved the pills into his mouth and drank them down with water.

In the meantime, among the pills in his fingers, he secretly discarded the new ones during a bathroom break, flushing them down the toilet.

Li Huowang lay on his bed, slowly closing his eyes, silently contemplating how to break free from this situation.

This couldn’t go on. Inside, Wu Cheng was the doctor, and Li Huowang was the patient. It was too easy for him to torment him.

“Bang!” The ward door slammed open. Six burly orderlies rushed in. “Get up! Why did you throw your medicine? Take your pills!”
