Chapter 750: Depart
Chapter 750: Departure
“You’re helping the Fate Keeper fight against the God of Yu’er?”
Li Huowang stared at the Xuan Pin before him in disbelief, repeating his question to confirm he hadn’t misheard.
This news was far too shocking for him to process.
Upon hearing Li Huowang’s inquiry, Xuan Pin said nothing, standing motionless in silence.
“Which Fate Keeper are you helping? In the current White Jade Capital, which Fate Keeper is fighting the God of Yu’er? What exactly is going on?” Li Huowang pressed on with a series of questions.
Yet again, Xuan Pin remained silent.
“Speak up already! Just give me a hint so I can answer my own questions all by myself—how fun is that?”
Finally, Xuan Pin spoke. “I can tell you no more than this. Think back to what I’ve told you before. If you know any more, you’ll be entangled in karma.”
Hearing these words, Li Huowang felt as though someone had punched him in a pile of cotton—uncomfortable and hollow.
“Are you serious? Is it really possible that even the Heavenly Observing Bureau can get involved in a battle between Fate Keepers? I just don’t believe it.” Li Huowang looked at Xuan Pin with deep suspicion.
“Heh, from the tone of your voice, you think you understand me well? Or perhaps you think you understand the Heavenly Observing Bureau?”
“I’m not looking down on you, but what you’re saying is simply too outrageous.”
Regardless, this was a Fate Keeper—he had seen one before. Li Huowang didn’t believe Xuan Pin could offer much help in such a struggle over Heaven’s will.
“What you haven’t seen doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Since we can observe the heavens, we naturally have our methods. Moreover, since the sects are about to destroy the world, there must be other sects and factions who are dissatisfied with them, aiding us both openly and secretly.”
Seeing Li Huowang about to speak again, Xuan Pin waved her long sleeve. “Enough. I’ve said enough. This isn’t something you should be thinking about.”
“You should be thinking instead about how, if you take this mission, everyone must fulfill their duties and responsibilities—we can only resolve this great trouble this way.”
Li Huowang, chin resting on his hand, frowned deeply and thought for a while before extending a finger toward Xuan Pin.
“One final question—how are things above? Are we doing better or is the God of Yu’er doing better?”
“That depends on how well you complete this mission. If you succeed, the God of Yu’er won’t have much longer to perform.”
“You don’t need to doubt me. If I kept hiding, we’d still be on the same side. Besides, I gave you the Spiral Light Mirror—such a precious treasure I gave you, surely that shows my sincerity.”
“Alright, how many times do you plan to repeat the same thing? Who else is joining this operation besides me?”
“A few capable individuals,” Xuan Pin replied, pulling out a Heavenly Observing Bureau badge from her sleeve. On it were two large characters: “Bing Shuai.”
Li Huowang knew the Heavenly Observing Bureau had its own identity system. Regardless, this badge was far more prestigious than the position he once held with the Geng Flag.
“No one will be in charge of you. They’ll all follow your orders. Even if you tell them to die, they won’t hesitate.”
Li Huowang reached out and took the badge, coldly staring at Xuan Pin. “Where are they now? When do we depart?”
Xuan Pin extended her withered hand and lightly touched the Spiral Light Mirror hovering beside Li Huowang. “Go there. Once you arrive, someone will explain everything.”
Looking at the glowing point on the mirror, Li Huowang said nothing more and turned to walk in that direction.
Xuan Pin called after Li Huowang as he walked away through the bamboo grove. “Don’t worry. If you truly run into danger, I’ll come and bring you back.”
Li Huowang thought it best to rely on himself when it came to matters involving life and death.
After all, the last time he was inside the Earth Dragon’s belly, this person hadn’t helped him at all. Could it be that he hadn’t known how to act before, and now suddenly learned?
“Mm, I got it. I’ll hang up now.” As Li Huowang pressed the red dot on his phone, the call ended with a beep.
“Who was that?” Yang Na sipped her silk stocking milk tea and asked.
“Who else? A graduate student. He wants us to come over—it’s probably the matter Zhao Lei found out about,” Li Huowang answered while keeping an eye on the bustling street around him.
“Fine, let’s grab what we need and go,” she said, her eyes suddenly lighting up. She shoved the milk tea into Li Huowang’s hands and ran off toward the girl with a ponytail.
“Nao Po! Long time no see—miss me?” Yang Na greeted her best friend excitedly.
But the ponytailed girl clearly wasn’t happy. She glanced nervously toward Li Huowang, who was drinking milk tea in the distance.
Even though Li Huowang wore sunglasses today and dressed differently from before, Yang Na had watched the whole drama unfold. How could she not recognize him?
“Meng Meng, where’s the taser?”
Yang Na took the small bag from her friend and opened it to find several unopened high-voltage tasers.
Having experienced the previous situation, Li Huowang understood the importance of weapons. Though illegal ones were out of reach, he made sure to acquire as many legal ones as possible.
Zhang Xiaomeng pulled Yang Na further away and scolded her in a tone full of exasperation. “Tsk! I spent so much effort buying you those tasers—do you really not know who you’re supposed to protect yourself from, or are you pretending not to know? Why are you still tangled up with him? Stockholm Syndrome?”
“Shut up!” Yang Na lightly smacked her. “Huowang’s better now.”
“Better? That doesn’t matter—he killed someone! What kind of boyfriend can’t you find? You have to pick someone who’s gone completely insane?”
“Ugh, it’s really complicated…” After finally persuading her friend to leave, Yang Na returned with her things in hand.
Li Huowang handed the milk tea back and opened the bag to check it, satisfied and closed it again. “How much?”
“It’s not much—just a few cups of milk tea. You don’t have to pay.”
“I never said you would, nor did I say I would. These are gifts for them—they should be reimbursed by Qing Wang.”
“Oh, okay then.” Yang Na, sipping her milk tea, linked her arm through Li Huowang’s.
“No need to stick to the original price. Overcharge a bit—it’s fine. That guy has money.”
Hearing this, Yang Na, leaning on Li Huowang, burst into laughter—but despite smiling, her eyes carried a trace of worry.
Things were getting increasingly complicated. She feared the situation would spiral out of control.
The two picked up two shared electric scooters and headed toward Orange Island.
If there was one good piece of news during this time, it was that as long as Li Huowang brought Yang Na along, others wouldn’t ask too many questions. Young love was always the most legitimate excuse.
