Chapter 103: Shapeshifting Spell
Chapter 103 Transfiguration
"Levi pays his respects to the Master of the Tower."
Having spoken, Levi remained rooted to the spot, unmoving.
Torresta, too, remained still for a long time.
Gazing at Torresta's back, a knot of tension tightened in Levi's chest.
Why had he summoned him here?
The longer Torresta maintained his silence, the more anxious Levi grew.
He felt the weight of an invisible pressure pressing down on him.
It was suffocation incarnate.
Suddenly, Levi realized something was amiss; why was he feeling this way?
Even when facing Orn, he had never felt such overwhelming dread.
Snapping back to his senses, Levi hastily reined in his thoughts.
Sinking into a meditative trance, he cut off his stray thoughts and forced himself to calm down.
Seeing him regain his composure,
Torresta finally spoke.
"To maintain clear consciousness under my spiritual pressure—not a bad performance, though your reaction was a bit slow."
Hearing this, Levi snapped out of it, realizing this had been Torresta's test.
Torresta said, "It seems you are not a high-tier mage reincarnated to cultivate anew."
"To become a first-tier official mage at such a young age, your talent is indeed astonishing."
Upon hearing this, Levi understood the purpose behind Torresta's test just now.
It was to determine whether he possessed true genius or if he was a reincarnated soul.
With a hint of surprise, he asked, "Can people truly reincarnate?"
Torresta replied, "Since a world of the dead exists, there will always be those who escape the realm of death to live another life."
Levi fell into deep thought.
If the people of this world generally accepted the concept of reincarnation and cultivation,
then he need not worry too much about his own transmigration being exposed.
Torresta asked, "Are you willing to become my disciple?"
Levi pondered for a moment before saying, "If I may be so bold as to ask, what spells does the Master specialize in?"
Torresta replied, "Spiritual spells."
Levi said, "Thank you for your favor, Master, but I fear I may not be suited to cultivate spiritual spells."
The extraordinary trait of his Fire Element Body dictated that cultivating fire spells would make him far stronger than cultivating any other element.
To abandon strength in pursuit of weakness would be highly unwise.
Torresta suddenly chuckled, "Ha ha ha..."
"What else are you trying to hide, kid?"
Levi looked at him in confusion, "What do you mean, Master?"
Torresta said, "You have awakened a second extraordinary trait on the spiritual side, haven't you?"
Levi was utterly astonished.
Even the magical stele had failed to detect his basic mana control trait.
Yet Torresta, without doing anything, had seen right through him.
Just as Levi was about to offer an excuse,
Torresta spoke, "Do not be in a hurry. Although your talent is high, becoming my disciple is not that easy."
"I am no ordinary spiritual mage."
Levi froze slightly at those words.
He saw Torresta stand up and turn around.
As Torresta turned to face him, Levi was shocked to discover that the man looked exactly like himself.
Torresta raised his right hand, and a fireball rapidly expanded within his palm.
Whoosh!
The fireball, swollen with gathered power, shot directly toward Levi.
Levi instinctively dodged.
Bang!
The fireball exploded, and a burst of flames engulfed Levi's figure.
In that instant, Levi felt the searing, burning sensation of the fire element.
Then he realized something was wrong; why hadn't his invisible armor activated?
"An illusion?"
Levi steeled his heart, calmed his mind, and stood absolutely still.
A moment later, the blinding light of the explosion vanished, and everything returned to how it had been.
Torresta was still sitting in his original spot, his back turned to him.
Levi remained in his defensive posture of retreating and dodging.
"An illusion spell?"
Torresta said, "It is not merely an illusion; this is a spell of my own creation, Transfiguration!" "Transfiguration can mimic an enemy's abilities, whether they are spells or battle techniques."
Levi was puzzled, "But that is still just an illusion."
Torresta smiled, "It seems you still do not understand."
A fireball manifested out of thin air and shot toward an empty patch of ground nearby.
Bang!
The fireball exploded, leaving a scorched black mark upon the earth.
"This is your Fireball spell," Torresta said.
Levi walked over to the blackened area and reached out to touch it; the ground had cracked.
Clearly an illusion, yet it had caused real damage.
What on earth was the principle behind this?
Could Transfiguration truly be more than just an illusion?
The ability to mimic others—this is simply too monstrous!
Torasta said, "I will teach you the Art of Illusory Form. Only when you master it will you be worthy to become my disciple."
Li Wei looked up in surprise.
"Why?"
Torasta replied, "I created this Art using my own extraordinary traits. No one else in existence can learn it except me."
"I don't want this art to vanish with my death."
Li Wei understood.
Earlier, Torasta’s testing of him had been for this very reason.
He smiled inwardly—jokingly, was there any spell he couldn’t master?
Li Wei said, "Thank you, Master of the Tower."
A spellbook flew from Torasta’s hand and settled into Li Wei’s.
"This book can only be used by you," Torasta said.
Li Wei nodded. "I promise I won’t give it to anyone else."
Torasta let out a chuckle. "Haha..."
He knew Li Wei had misunderstood, but chose not to correct him.
"Go back and study the Art of Illusory Form. When the day comes that you’ve mastered it, return to me."
"Until then, you may say you are my disciple."
Li Wei looked up at him.
After a moment’s thought, he grasped the meaning.
The title of Torasta’s disciple would help him resolve many troubles ahead.
But if he failed to master the Art, he’d possess only the name, never the true privileges of a disciple.
With genuine gratitude, Li Wei said, "Thank you, Master of the Tower!"
Leaving the sixth floor, Li Wei returned to his chamber.
On the way, he met Teacher Guze.
Seeing Li Wei holding a spellbook, Guze was surprised. "How did you manage to take out a spellbook?"
Li Wei replied, "This was given to me by the Master of the Tower."
Guze’s expression turned astonished—he hadn’t expected the Tower Master himself to be involved.
Torasta hadn’t left the sixth floor in years.
Unless summoned by Torasta, no one could ascend to that level.
Guze had been in the Tower for thirteen years and still hadn’t laid eyes on its master.
Snapping back to reality, Guze said, "Seize this opportunity. Don’t let it slip away."
Li Wei smiled slightly. "Yes, I understand."
Since the spellbook came from the Tower Master, Guze didn’t ask what spell it contained.
Li Wei hadn’t spoken of it, so neither would he—no need to cause discomfort.
After parting ways, Li Wei went straight to his room.
He opened the spellbook and studied the magical formula within.
After a long while, new words appeared before his eyes.
[Art of Illusory Form (Zero-tier)] 0/10000
Li Wei paused, slightly taken aback.
"So the Art of Illusory Form truly differs greatly from ordinary spells."
"It feels somewhat similar to the Great Dream Soaring Heaven Technique."
"Torasta relied too heavily on his extraordinary traits when creating this Art. As a result, it has transcended the boundaries of magic and become a supernatural ability."
Thinking this, Li Wei once again realized how extraordinary the creator of the Invisible Armor Spell must have been.
That spell depended on no extraordinary traits whatsoever.
Even an apprentice mage could unleash its full power.
The Invisible Armor Spell was truly the pinnacle of zero-tier magic.
Li Wei grew even more puzzled—where exactly had Oren obtained such a spell?
