Chapter 115: The Mysterious Fire Mage Reappears, A Legend of the Realm
"Absolute Defense—Perfect Shield Counter!"
The Ant King struck down with all its might.
Thud!
A terrifying force exploded from the shield, the sheer power of the Ant King itself.
Thump, thump, thump!
The Ant King was hurled backward by its own strength, tumbling several times before halting.
Witnessing this, the crowd froze in astonishment.
Then, a chorus of gasps and cheers erupted.
"Holy crap! That's insane!"
"To actually blow the Ant King away—I declare that the ultimate shield counter!"
"Ridiculous! A counter usually depends on the power gap, right? This makes no sense!"
The onlookers cheered, believing victory was within reach.
Lena’s heart, however, sank; she knew their chances were slim.
That single blow had drained half of the battle aura within her body.
Though the Ant King had been knocked over by its own force, it sustained little actual harm.
Boom, boom, boom!
Amidst the bombardment of arrow rains and spells, the Ant King rose inch by inch, its eyes burning with fury.
It was thoroughly enraged.
Thud, thud, thud!
With a flurry of heavy footsteps, the Ant King charged once more, fiercer than before.
Clang, clang, clang!
The incoming arrows struck the Ant King, only to ricochet harmlessly off its impenetrable carapace.
The armor could not be pierced.
Seeing that the attacks of the others were merely scratching the surface, Lena realized that continuing the fight was utterly hopeless.
"Retreat!"
She cried out.
The Ant King slammed viciously against her shield.
Crash!
Using the momentum, Lena flew backward over ten meters, cast aside her shield, and turned to flee.
"Phew!"
She blew a whistle, and her warhorse came galloping toward her.
Leaping onto the steed, she spurred it into a wild dash.
"Go! I'll lure the Ant King away."
"Yah!"
Lena squeezed her legs tight, and the warhorse beneath her instantly surged forward.
Clip-clop, clip-clop!
It raced swiftly toward the flank of the camp.
Crash, crash, crash!
The Ant King overturned every obstacle in its path, pursuing her relentlessly.
Seeing this, the others began to withdraw one after another.
Under the current circumstances, it was impossible to sustain the battle.
The Ant King was simply matchless.
It would take at least a squad of Tier-3 professionals to have any hope of slaying it.
As the Ant King pursued Lena into the distance, the swarm instinctively turned to follow its steps.
Suddenly, a Golden Anteater burrowed out from the ground.
Swoosh!
The Golden Anteater used its tongue to grab the bag on its back, dumping all its contents across the path.
Plants emitting a pungent, irritating odor scattered over the dirt.
The encroaching Iron-Eating Ants instinctively halted.
They hesitated, refusing to advance.
In the blink of an eye, the Ant King was far away, leaving the confused Iron-Eating Ants spinning in circles.
A moment later, they turned and began to gather around the few remaining Tier-2 Iron-Eating Ants.
"Shadow Servant, let's go."
Li Wei emerged from the wooded hills and climbed onto the back of the Golden Anteater.
The Golden Anteater swiftly gave chase in the direction the Ant King had gone.
Intercepting the swarm had been Li Wei's doing.
Now that the Ant King was isolated, it was the perfect opportunity for him to strike.
Outside the mine, Li Wei could take flight; even if a single blow failed to kill the creature, he could easily retreat.
After a long pursuit, Li Wei finally caught sight of the Ant King and Lena.
Lena's warhorse was nowhere to be seen.
She was using the surrounding terrain to constantly dodge the creature's assaults, her situation critical.
Taking in the scene, Li Wei instinctively scanned the surroundings.
"Is Orne here?"
The memory of their previous encounter was still fresh in his mind.
Crash!
Lena was struck by the Ant King, flying back over ten meters and snapping two large trees before coming to a stop.
"Cough, cough, cough!"
Lena's helmet tumbled off, a trail of fresh blood leaking from the corner of her mouth.
She struggled to her feet, her expression grim as she watched the Ant King draw near, step by step.
"It seems Orn isn't here this time!" Li Wei's cloak turned crimson, glowing with an eerie blue light from within.
Whoosh!
He shot into the sky.
Raising his right hand high, fiery elements gathered in his palm, coalescing into a blazing sphere.
The sphere shifted from red to orange, then deep orange—like a miniature sun, blinding and fierce.
Cradling the little sun, Li Wei soared toward the Ant King.
Boom!
Leina dodged the Ant King’s attack; a massive tree beside her exploded under its strike.
The Ant King twisted its head, fixing its gaze upon her.
Drool dripped from its jaws.
Drip.
It struck the ground, corroding stone—melting it instantly, releasing wisps of acrid white smoke.
Leina stared at the monstrous, invincible Ant King before her, eyes burning with resolve.
She was about to unleash the hidden power sealed within.
It would cost her dearly—but there was no time to hesitate.
Rustle-rustle!
Suddenly, a violent flapping echoed through the air—a cloak thrashing wildly in the wind.
Leina looked up. A figure in crimson robes hovered midair.
Blue light shimmered across the Ant King’s body.
In the next instant, the beast was wrenched uncontrollably into the sky.
It thrashed desperately, the blue glow fading fast, its ascent slowing, beginning to falter.
Li Wei hurled the fireball in his hand.
It streaked toward the suspended Ant King.
Leina watched, awestruck, as the robed mage in crimson raised his right hand—seizing the sun from the heavens.
Then, in his palm, a radiant miniature sun ignited.
It launched toward the Ant King.
The beast swung its forelimbs, slashing at the oncoming orb.
Kaboom!
Instantly, the fireball erupted with terrifying force, expanding violently, consuming everything nearby.
A devastating shockwave radiated outward, rolling clouds of mist flattening trees below.
Fierce winds howled. From the epicenter, trees toppled like spokes, felled in all directions.
Within a ten-meter radius, every tree vanished—reduced to scorched charcoal.
Blinded by the explosion’s searing light, Leina squeezed her eyes shut, turning her head away, unable to face the inferno’s heart.
Her face twisted in shock.
Her mind reeled.
What level of power was this?
Thud!
A heavy impact rang out from the blast’s center.
Gritting her teeth, Leina forced her eyes open.
There lay the Ant King, blackened and broken, crashing to the earth, grievously wounded.
Most of its body had been blown apart, charred remnants smoking in ruin.
Yet the ant race’s monstrous vitality kept it clinging to life.
“Sssss…”
The Ant King hissed, summoning its minions—but none came.
It had strayed too far from the swarm long ago.
As the flames cleared, Li Wei gazed into the haze, watching the mangled creature struggle to rise—and he frowned in surprise.
He hadn’t expected it to still be alive.
“This resilience is truly remarkable.”
“But it ends here.”
He reached out with an empty grasp—casting telekinesis.
A surge of blue light enveloped the Ant King, lifting it once more into the sky.
The beast writhed, but its limbs were gone, reduced to shattered stumps—powerless.
Leina could only watch, helpless, as the once-almighty Ant King—now gravely wounded—was seized and carried away by the mysterious master.
Her soul trembled.
"Who is he? So strong!"
Flight. A single strike that crippled the Ant King. Carrying it off into the sky…
Everything she thought she knew about mages crumbled.
Once, she believed mages were shrouded in mystery and supreme might.
But after war, after seeing their true capabilities—
she had come to see them as no different from other awakened beings.
The mystique had faded.
Until today.
Now, it was as if she stepped into a new world—witnessing a deeper, forgotten magic.
The true mystery of mages.
