Chapter 184: Chance Encounter
Chapter 184 A Chance Encounter
The steward led Lwei to the Mage Instruction Corps.
He stood at the door, extending a hand to invite Lwei inside.
"Mage Lwei, Lord Allen is just inside, you may enter."
"Thank you."
"No need for thanks, it is what I ought to do."
"If there is anything else, Mage Lwei can find me anytime."
"If there is nothing else, I shall take my leave first."
"Mm."
The steward turned and left.
Lwei walked into the courtyard of the Mage Instruction Corps.
Upon entering was a spacious plaza, where many mage apprentices were practicing spells on the square.
For a Circle Mage to use magic, one must first learn the spell, then inscribe it into a spell slot.
Seeing many mage apprentices fail to cast spells, Lwei couldn't help but recall the scene of learning Fireball back then.
His heart was filled with emotion.
Phicia, who was instructing the mage apprentices, saw someone enter and subconsciously turned her head to look.
Discovering it was Lwei, her face showed a look of surprise.
"Practice on your own for now, ask me if there is anything you don't understand."
Having said that, Phicia walked over towards Lwei.
She smiled and greeted him, "Mage Lwei, a rare guest indeed, how did you come here?"
Lwei smiled and said, "Phicia, I am here to find Archmage Allen."
Phicia teased, "I thought you were here to find me, making me happy for nothing."
Lwei chuckled, saying nothing.
He knew Phicia was just joking.
Phicia pointed to a door not far away and said, "Chief Instructor Allen is inside, you just go over there."
Lwei nodded, "Thanks."
Crossing the playground, Lwei walked into an independent small courtyard.
Before seeing Allen, he heard voices first.
"Lyle, what are you doing?"
Allen's tone sounded somewhat angry.
"Teacher, rest assured, I will handle it myself."
"I am leaving, Teacher, you need not worry about me."
"Lyle, it is still time to turn back now."
"It is too late, through normal cultivation I will never surpass him."
After Lyle finished speaking, he walked towards the outside.
He bumped into Lwei at the doorway.
Both halted their steps, four eyes meeting.
Sharp met sharp.
Strange glints flashed in both their eyes, thoughts differing.
Lyle suddenly smiled, "Mage Lwei, long time no see."
Lwei smiled and said, "Lyle, do you have time later? I have something to ask you."
Lyle showed a look of surprise, "Oh? What is it?"
"Some private matters," Lwei said.
Lyle said with regret, "Then that is too bad, truly unfortunate, today I have matters to leave Maple Leaf City, might not return recently."
Lwei paused slightly, nodded and said, "That is indeed a pity."
"Then I wish you a smooth journey."
"Thank you for Mage Lwei's kindness."
The two brushed past each other.
Two shadows overlapped, the shadow moved imperceptibly.
No one noticed.
Lyle walked a few paces, glancing back at Lwei's retreating figure.
The corner of his mouth rose slightly.
"Hehe..."
Allen stood in the room, turned to look at Lwei, somewhat surprised, "Lwei, why have you come?"
Lwei said, "I have some matters to find Archmage Allen."
"Oh? What matters? Come, sit down and talk first."
Allen invited Lwei into the room to sit and chat.
Lwei discussed a few points regarding spell cultivation with Allen.
The topic shifted, turning towards Lyle.
"Mage Allen, Lyle is preparing to leave Maple Leaf City recently, do you know what he goes to do?"
Allen was somewhat surprised, asked subconsciously, "Why do you ask this?"
Lwei said, "I originally had some matters to ask him for help, he said no time."
"Oh, whatever your matter, I can also help you," Allen said.
Lwei shook his head and said, "A small matter, no need to trouble Mage Allen."
"He said he wants to leave for a while, cannot return in short time, is he going somewhere?" Lwei continued to press.
Allen said, "Isn't Maple Leaf City a bit chaotic recently? I let him go back to Polar Night City to avoid it."
Lwei's expression moved, asking, "Do you know what Lyle has been doing recently?"
"I heard some not so good rumors."
Allen showed a look of surprise, asking, "What rumors?"
"That Lyle is very close with some nobles, helping nobles do matters not fit for the light of day," Lwei said casually.
Allen shook his head and said, "It should be rumors, Lyle has always stayed within the Mage Association cultivating diligently, no time to mess around with nobles."
"After being defeated by you last time, he really redoubled his efforts, and now he has already become a Tier-One Ring Mage."
"During this time, he should have had no time to go out, always cultivating, otherwise he wouldn't have broken through to Tier-One so quickly."
Li Wei smiled and said, "Then congratulations."
After chatting for a few words, Li Wei stood up to bid farewell.
"Mage Allen, no need to see me off, I am leaving."
"Take your time, come visit often when you have time."
Li Wei walked two steps, reached the doorway, and suddenly halted his footsteps.
He turned his head to look at Allen and asked, "Does Mage Allen have any news regarding the Evil God cultists?"
"Last night the Mage Tower was attacked by Evil God cultists; today there is a high reward for news on the cultists, searching the entire city for the Black Cultists."
Allen glanced at Li Wei and said, "I haven't heard anything for now; if I knew, I would certainly tell you."
"Then many thanks to Mage Allen."
Allen watched Li Wei's receding back, his gaze profound.
Li Wei walked along the road.
When he entered the gate, he heard the dispute between Allen and Lyle.
At that time, he suspected Allen knew about Lyle using the Blood Sacrifice Ritual.
Now it appears Allen may know, but knows little.
He assumed Lyle was merely using the Blood Sacrifice Ritual himself to enhance his power.
At least one matter can be confirmed.
Allen did not conspire with Lyle.
This point was also within Li Wei's anticipation.
Allen only recently broke through to Tier-Four, becoming an Archmage.
The future is bright.
There was absolutely no need to stain oneself with such evil rituals as the Blood Sacrifice.
Li Wei departed from the City Lord's Mansion.
He raised his head and gazed toward a direction.
That was the direction where the Shadow Servant was.
The Shadow Servant followed Lyle's shadow away.
Li Wei hurried toward the direction where the Shadow Servant was located.
Lilia sat in the guest room of the City Lord's Mansion, eating pastries and drinking tea, distracted.
"Li Wei, when will you come to take me away?"
Sitting here, she felt extremely uneasy.
She always felt the servants around were staring at her.
She subconsciously touched the cat ears hidden beneath her hat.
"It shouldn't be discovered, right?"
Lilith transformed back into Lilia, and her cat ears reappeared.
She was in a state of sheer panic now, terrified of being discovered as a half-beast.
With food and drink available, she still could not sit steady.
Li Wei had long since forgotten about Lilia.
He tracked the location of the Shadow Servant and found Lyle.
Lyle had not left Maple City.
He arrived at a small manor.
Li Wei stood outside the wall, peering inside.
"Which noble's manor is this?"
It looks like merely a minor noble.
There were not even guards at the entrance.
Seeing this, Li Wei directly donned the Cloak of Invisibility and entered unseen.
