Chapter 270: Golden Bone Ring
Chapter 270 The Golden Bone Ring
With the death of the golden skeleton.
The surrounding undead also vanished one after another.
It was not something Levi did.
But rather the Dreamweaver who created the undead had retreated.
The undead he created were erased by another Dreamweaver.
Levi looked at the golden bone ring on the ground, revealing a look of confusion.
Logically speaking, dream creations leave nothing behind after death.
Why did the golden skeleton leave behind a golden bone ring upon death?
Levi thought of a possibility.
After dream creations die, they indeed leave nothing behind.
But what if the item was deliberately placed inside the dream creation by the Dreamweaver?
Levi instantly realized the other party wanted to deliver this golden bone ring into his hands.
He did not understand why the other party would do this.
What significance did this hold for him?
Or rather, what benefit was there?
Unable to kill him, so trying to recruit him?
Levi felt something was strange.
Who exactly was the Dreamweaver creating undead to attack him?
He felt it might be the Legendary Lich.
But again, he felt it was unlikely.
The Legendary Lich was at the ancient battlefield thousands of kilometers away, how could he run to the Element Tower's dream?
Furthermore, there was no evidence proving the Legendary Lich was also a Dreamweaver.
Of course, there was no evidence proving he was not either.
After hesitating repeatedly, Levi chose to pick up the golden bone ring from the ground.
He felt this thing was extremely extraordinary.
Absolutely not an ordinary item.
The golden bone ring was in the shape of a skull.
When looking at the golden bone ring, he always felt a pair of eyes was watching him from within the skull's pitch-black eye sockets.
After pondering for a moment, Levi felt the golden bone ring was different from anything else within the dream.
It just had a very special feeling.
It felt as if this thing was real.
When Levi obtained the golden bone ring, he felt this thing could be brought into reality.
He did not know if it was an illusion.
Levi hurriedly returned to the safe house.
He was blocked at the entrance by someone.
The safe house door clearly before his eyes was yet as distant as the horizon.
The surrounding houses became blurry, a path of light appeared beneath his feet, extending straight toward the sky.
Levi looked up, the path of light led outside the dream bubble.
He knew this was an invitation from the Dreamweaver.
Levi stored the golden bone ring and stepped onto the path of light.
The path of light was clearly long and far, yet he walked a few steps and arrived outside the dream bubble.
His single step seemed to cross a thousand meters.
Arriving outside the dream bubble, Levi also saw the end of the path of light.
A mage tower.
Its shape was exactly the same as the Element Tower.
Levi had long guessed the second Dreamweaver was a mage from the Element Tower.
Otherwise, the other party would not have taken the initiative to maintain the stability of the dream.
It was precisely because of his existence that the nightmares within the dream dared not wreak havoc recklessly.
Nightmares are creatures naturally born within the dream world.
Even Dreamweavers cannot eradicate them, only maintaining the dream's stability as much as possible.
Levi walked to the door of the Element Tower within the dream.
Bang!
The great door opened.
Levi walked inside.
Two figures appeared before him.
"Welcome to the Element Tower's dream."
"Eh? How is it you?"
Levi accustomed himself to the change in light, turning his head toward the person who voiced the confusion.
Seeing that person, he was also somewhat surprised.
"Teacher Jasmine, good evening."
Jasmine smiled slightly, responding to his greeting.
The man beside her was somewhat surprised, "Jasmine, you know him?"
"He is the Levi I told you about." Jasmine said.
"Levi? A new student? Truly never thought you were also a dreamwalker." The man said.
He introduced himself: "Hello, my name is Eris."
Levi said: "Hello, my name is Levi."
"Are you the Dreamweaver who just took action?" Levi asked curiously.
Upon hearing this, Eris and Jasmine laughed once, shaking their heads and saying: "How could I have such ability?"
"The Dreamweaver is Vice Tower Master, we are merely dreamwalkers."
Jasmine looked at Levi and asked: "You know Dreamweavers, have you joined other dream organizations before?"
"No," Levi replied, "but I have crossed paths with an organization called the Wandering Deity Society."
Masmine and Eris exchanged a look, and Jasmine said, "That is fortunate; the Wandering Deity Society is a neutral faction."
Levi asked in confusion, "Is there some sort of problem?"
Jasmine explained, "Many dreamscape organizations belong to the factions of evil and chaos. They view the dream realm as a lawless frontier where they can indulge every whim and perpetrate any villainy."
Hearing this, Levi nodded to show his understanding.
If one could become conscious of dreams and even manipulate them,
it would indeed be terribly easy to lose oneself within them.
Inside a dream, a dreamwalker was nigh omnipotent, a state that stripped away inhibitions and laid bare one's true nature.
The only reason Jasmine had asked was for fear that Levi might have been led astray by bad company.
Eris spoke up, "Whatever you have done in the past, the Elemental Tower will not hold against you."
"But since you are now a member of the Tower, you must abide by its regulations, even within the dream world."
"Furthermore, there are certain rules established specifically for dreamwalkers."
"The very first is that you are forbidden from encroaching upon the dream of any Elemental Tower mage at will."
...
Eris went on to expound upon the rules of the Elemental Tower to Levi.
Levi kept nodding in agreement throughout the discourse.
The restrictive clauses were numerous.
For instance, one could not violate or humiliate others within a dream.
One could not steal the secrets of the Elemental Tower within a dream.
One could not disclose the mysteries of the dream world to those who were not dreamwalkers.
After speaking for a long time, Eris turned her head to look at Jasmine and asked, "Did I miss anything?"
Jasmine shook her head and said, "No."
Eris produced a contract, proffered it to Levi, and said, "Sign this covenant. Everything we just discussed will take effect upon its signing."
Levi hesitated for a brief moment.
Jasmine said, "There is no need for hesitation. The moment you heard the rules Eris spoke of, the covenant had already taken effect."
"These are the laws established for this dreamscape by the Lord Dreamweaver."
Levi took the contract, which instantly dissolved into a streak of light, scattering and drifting into his body.
Jasmine said, "A first infraction of the rules will result in a warning."
"The second time, there will be punishment."
"What kind of punishment?" Levi inquired.
Jasmine shook her head and replied, "I am not entirely sure myself. In any case, those who have undergone the punishment are never willing to violate the rules again."
"Nor have they ever disclosed the nature of that punishment to anyone else."
"Quite mysterious," Levi grumbled silently to himself.
"Is there anything else? If not, I shall take my leave," Levi said.
Jasmine said, "Very well, you may go."
"Remember, do not mindlessly invade a mage's dream. Most people who break the rules for the first time do so by triggering this particular law," Jasmine cautioned.
Levi nodded in response, "Yes, I understand."
Leaving the dreamscape of the Elemental Tower, he returned to the safe house.
He descended back into the fourth layer of the dream world.
The covenant bound to Levi slowly coalesced, manifesting before him as a physical sheet of parchment.
Gazing at the contract paper floating before his eyes, a look of surprise crossed Levi's face.
"Does this mean the covenant is ineffective against me?"
The contract had already been entirely precipitated out of him.
Existing as he did within the fourth layer of the dream world, the rules of a covenant forged in the first layer could hold no power over him.
He withdrew from the dream world.
Levi opened his eyes, staring at the golden bone ring nestled in the palm of his hand, his expression turning into one of utter astonishment.
