Chapter 105: Unlucky Immortal Fairy

The Immortal Fairy stiffened her expression. "Junior, how dare a mortal address this seat by her immortal name! You shall address me as the Immortal Fairy!"

"So, Immortal Fairy, is your name truly Huang Doudou?"

The Immortal Fairy’s face fell. "My parents gave me this name. It's not as if I can just change it."

Yun Zhi interrupted their fruitless banter. "Speak up then. What exactly did you do to get yourself entangled with an immortal after being out for a mere two months?"

The Immortal Fairy corrected Yun Zhi's phrasing. "Watch your wording. I am not entangling him. The way you say it makes me sound like some resentful woman pining after a faithless lover!"

The only response the Immortal Fairy received was Yun Zhi’s cold gaze. The Immortal Fairy thought it over; she had only just revived, her immortal soul was weak, and she knew nothing of the outside world, so there was no need to provoke an enemy.

Yet, she was a dignified immortal after all, a figure who had once stirred up storms in the ancient era. She had to maintain a modicum of backbone, adopt a sterner attitude, and warn the other party that she was no pushover.

"As you wish, Ma'am."

Lu Yang glanced at the now obedient Immortal Fairy, met his Eldest Senior Sister’s chilly eyes, and honestly confessed everything they had gained over the past month or so.

"We didn't really do much. It was just that Meng Jingzhou and Mangu found me, saying there was a tiger demon in the mountains of Yanjiang County causing trouble for the locals, and that killing it would earn us contribution points. The three of us talked it over, figured it was a guaranteed profitable mission, and went."

"The slaying of the tiger demon went smoothly. While taking inventory of the spoils afterward, we discovered the tiger demon had ties to a demonic cult. We followed the clues to find the cult, hoping to eliminate a few cultists and rid the people of a menace."

"Later, we heard the demonic cult was recruiting, so we smoothly joined in to test the waters. We didn't expect our luck to be so good that all three of us got in."

"Once inside, the local cult leader thought highly of us and appointed us as deacons."

"Though our bodies were in the demonic path, our hearts belonged to the righteous path. During our time in the cult, we uncovered subtle clues showing that the local cult leader had secretly set up a Reverse Lifespan Array to break through his core and form a nascent soul. After a heroic struggle and employing a few underhanded tricks, we successfully killed him."

"Just then, higher-ups from the cult came to inspect the place. They felt the three of us had clean backgrounds and sharp wits, so they promoted us to branch leaders and sent us back to our own Seeking Dao Sect to act as moles."

The Immortal Fairy listened from the side and laughed. "What a foolish demonic cult, actually sending you back as moles. What is the name of this cult? If I ever encounter them, I shall mock them thoroughly."

"The Immortal Cult. They worship you," Lu Yang said.

The smile froze on the Immortal Fairy’s face.

Lu Yang continued, "The people of the Immortal Cult told us that back in the ancient times, when the Anonymous One refined the stars into a continent, the Immortal Immortal saved the human race. They claimed that by chanting the title of the Immortal Immortal along with the immortal name, one could revive the immortal to save humanity once more."

"The three of us were bored on our way back, so we tried to guess what the Immortal Immortal was actually called. We were also worried that if we really revived an immortal it would be hard to clear up the mess, so we changed 'Immortal Immortal' to 'Immortal Fairy'. And as you can see, Eldest Senior Sister, I ended up calling her to life."

Yun Zhi gave a soft grunt of assent. "The experiences of you three are indeed rich. Successfully infiltrating the Immortal Cult and even rising to branch leaders is truly a great merit. The cult's selection process has many merits, being able to distinguish between orthodox and demonic. For you to enter the Immortal Cult was no easy feat."

"I have also heard rumors of the Immortal Cult attempting to revive the Immortal Immortal, though I did not know the specific method. I never expected you to stumble upon success by sheer accident."

Yun Zhi turned her gaze upon the Immortal Fairy, who was currently frowning in deep thought. "And you? What do you have to say?"

The Immortal Fairy shook her head. "I have never heard of any Immortal Cult, nor do I know anything about some ancient Anonymous One refining stars, and I certainly don't recall saving the human race."

"The era I lived in was called the Heavenly Mandate Prosperity by the people, meaning heaven pitied us and the true mandate resided with me. I was born of the human race, attained the immortal Dao fruit during that prosperous era, and became an immortal. Because of the unique ability of my Dao fruit, people called me the Immortal Fairy."

Yun Zhi explained calmly, "The Heavenly Mandate Prosperity is what we commonly refer to as the ancient era."

The Immortal Fairy continued, "Aside from me, there were four others who became immortals at the time. Later, I know not who ambushed me from behind and killed me thoroughly, and so I died completely."

"Just as the Immortal Cult said, as long as someone calls out our title and immortal name, I can be revived. I just don't know why it was falsely passed down as the 'Immortal Immortal', delaying my revival until now. To this moment, I still don't know how long I have been dead."

The Immortal Fairy felt quite aggrieved herself. She had only just revived and wanted to show off her power before a junior, giving him a good scare so he would be obedient. Instead, the boy had immediately called his Eldest Senior Sister over. And that wasn't all—this Eldest Senior Sister was ridiculously strong, suppressing her directly.

To whom could she complain?

Why did she have to encounter someone this powerful right after reviving?

After listening, Yun Zhi analyzed, "It may not necessarily be a false rumor. It could be that someone with ulterior motives wished to revive you but was unwilling to incur karma with you. Thus, they used the hands of the Immortal Cult to call out your title and immortal name, intentionally misdirecting them to call you the 'Immortal Immortal'. Once the cult tried every name and found it still incorrect, they would guess whether they had remembered the title wrongly. In this way, it is the Immortal Cult that revives you and bears the karma, having nothing to do with the person behind the scenes."

The higher a person's cultivation, the more they valued karma, believing that karma controlled everything in the shadows.

Speaking to this point, Yun Zhi frowned slightly. Now, it was not the Immortal Cult incurring karma with the Immortal Fairy; Lu Yang had blundered into it, shouldering this monstrous karma himself.

"As for how long you have been dead," Yun Zhi paused, then asked, "You truly do not know who refined the stars?"

Her tone remained calm, but Lu Yang detected a hint of gravity within it, indicating that his Eldest Senior Sister attached great importance to this question.

The Immortal Fairy shook her head, looking utterly bewildered. "I don't know. What is the situation now? When I was alive, everyone lived on stars. Did someone actually refine the stars into a continent?"

Yun Zhi nodded. "Before the Great Xia Dynasty, there was the Great Yu Dynasty. Before the Great Yu Dynasty, there was the Great Gan Dynasty. And before the Great Gan Dynasty was the Heavenly Mandate Prosperity you spoke of, which we call the ancient era."

"Both Great Gan and Great Yu existed for one hundred thousand years before being replaced. Great Xia has also existed for one hundred thousand years. Some say this is a curse from ancient times—that each dynasty can only exist for one hundred thousand years, after which it must collapse, allowing a new force to rise and establish a new dynasty upon the ruins."

"At the end of the ancient era, an immortal refined the stars into a continent. The entire world changed its appearance from then on, becoming what is now the Central Continent."

"In other words, you have been dead for at least three hundred thousand years."

The Immortal Fairy was astonished. "That long? If I had known, I would have deposited my spirit stones into a money plaza. Just how much interest could that have accumulated?"

Lu Yang was speechless.

Fairy, is your focus perhaps a bit misplaced?
