Chapter 685: Craving for More

It is worth mentioning that during this specific period, because of the Level 60 version of Dungeon Fighter Online, a considerable number of players had already graduated from the Abyss and had nothing left to strive for, and even those who had not graduated were not far behind, so a fair number of players from the original Dungeon Fighter Online were also trying out World of Warcraft.

This was precisely what caused the spectacle where a good number of players could be seen in every single starting zone.

In World of Warcraft, although one could still resurrect after death, it was not nearly as convenient as in other games.

In this regard, it bore a slight resemblance to Diablo II.

After players died, they chose to release their spirit, and their soul would regenerate in the nearest graveyard, but it was merely a spirit; if they wished to continue playing, they had to retrace their steps, locate their own corpse, and possess it once more.

Should they abandon retrieving their own corpse, an angel would be watching from beside the spirit, and by speaking with it, the player could be resurrected. However, this came with a certain penalty of durability loss and a state of resurrection sickness.

Within that state of weakness, it was naturally impossible to perform quests and level up.

And so... when the elf maiden Thera opened her eyes once more, she found herself appearing in a world where everything around her was a blanket of ash and white, with a colossal, illusory silhouette of an angel standing right beside the graveyard.

Previously, when a large group of people had teamed up to do quests together, she had clearly never died, so seeing such a sight now caused Thera to panic slightly: "Where am I?"

Furthermore, she felt as though her body were like a spirit itself, empty of any strength or weight.

Her surroundings were entirely unfamiliar, and added to the fact that the world was completely monochrome grey and white, this particular elf was already beginning to lose her bearings.

"How did your World of Warcraft turn into this?" Several elves nearby also removed their virtual headsets and looked over.

"I don't know either..." Thera said with a face full of melancholy, "It just turned into this after I died a moment ago... and I feel like I've turned into a ghost, but aren't the Forsaken supposed to be dead in the first place... how can you die a second time?"

"It seems to say that I either have to run back to find my corpse, or I can only resurrect right here, but I'll be weakened..." Thera said, "I think I'll just resurrect here, the Undercity looks so far away..."

"Alright then." The other few elves of the elven squad spoke up, "We will familiarize ourselves with the environment in this Undercity first."

The Snow Dove Squad of the elven race had about a dozen members in total, though at present, only six had broken away from the main elven force to try out this strange race of the Forsaken, led by Queen Sylvanas.

Of course, there were also a few elves who were not part of the Snow Dove Squad, making a grand total of about a dozen people.

They did not all huddle together to level up; those traveling alongside Nalan Mingxue and her companions amounted to six people in total, including two female elves, Lorin and Ice, besides Thera, along with two male elves, Roger and Sloan, besides the captain.

However, at this moment, Nalan Mingxue and the others could not tell who was who either, only recognizing that the more mature-looking elf was the captain, while the lively one who had just plummeted down the elevator shaft was Thera.

In truth, the elves could not quite make head or tail of names like "Nalan Mingxue" and "Lan Yan," which sounded exceedingly strange to them, but it did not matter much; having only met today, even if there would be plenty of mix-ups where they failed to recognize one another in the process, there was no need to fuss over it in a virtual world like a game, and sometimes it was actually rather amusing.

"Should we take a stroll around this Undercity first?" Lin Shao suggested.

"We have the same intention." Captain Lancer spoke up, "As newcomers, I think we ought to get our bearings first."

He opened the magic map in his hands; while the original version displayed the map in the upper right corner of the screen, in the system version of the game, every player possessed a magic map that could automatically chart the general terrain of the surroundings and mark the positions of teammates, quest acceptances, and the locations of turn-in NPCs.

The system version of the Undercity was clearly grander in scale than the original; even though the Forsaken were not a race renowned for their numbers, it still possessed its residential quarters, and there were even vast multitudes of Forsaken dwelling within the Undercity, as well as ordinary undead who, just like the players, had awakened from Deathknell, whereas the original version had none.

The entire Undercity was constructed beneath Lordaeron, extending in all directions; its subterranean area was even several times larger than the ruins of Lordaeron Keep, resembling a luxurious underground kingdom.

"According to the instructions of the Deathknell magistrate, we should be going to find that..." The elven captain Lancer looked at the map, "Find that what's-his-name... Bisuo, who is supposed to meet us in this city?"

Lan Yan also scanned the map at this time: "If we walk along this direction, we should arrive, right...?"

Ten minutes later...

"Why aren't we there yet? Is there no path through here?"

Twenty minutes later...

Several people stared at the map: "It's clearly right here, isn't it...?"

An hour later...

"Uh... we're lost..." A group of people stared at the map with faces full of utter bewilderment.

"It seems... there is another level beneath this Undercity?"

...

"Thera, have you arrived yet?" Lorin, another female elf of the elven squad, inquired.

Turning her head to look: "Why are you still in the graveyard!?"

At this moment, a prompt popped up on everyone's screens: Your time has reached its limit.

"..."

...

"Ah, that weakness... not long after I walked out of the graveyard, I was spotted by monsters and died so many times, I couldn't beat them at all." Thera logged off with extreme reluctance, complaining, "How can it be like this!?"

"How did it go on your end...? It's been so long, are you all already many levels ahead of me?" Thera said somewhat despondently.

"We got lost..." The faces of several elves turned dark, "..."

Soon after they logged off, a batch of players who were still waiting in line and spectating also got their heart's desire and played World of Warcraft.

"There really are so many people in this mystic realm..." Elder Cywi also logged off, clicking her tongue in amazement, "I have never seen a mystic realm with so many people before."

It was not just them; the dwarves, the mages, and even a multitude of mercenaries also began to discuss it involuntarily after stepping out of the shop doors.

"You couldn't even have imagined it before!" Dwarf Elder Thor shouted at that white-haired, white-robed mage, Adolf, as he walked out the door, "That majestic Ironforge, although it is different from our cities, I guarantee you will fall in love with it at first sight! You can imagine, beneath those snow-capped mountains, lies the fortress that our kinsmen carved out of the very heart of the mountain, and within the mountain's womb, countless industrious dwarves are busily at work, that kind of feeling..."

"You ought to go see Stormwind City!" Adolf laughed, "Those standing heroic statues, the bustling Trade District, the quiet and elegant Mage Quarter with its violet roofs... Oh right! There is also the Brewfest, do you know about the Brewfest?"

As they walked along the streets of Canglan City, Grand Mage Adolf gestured with his hands: "Speaking of fine wine, I think you absolutely cannot miss the Dalaran Noir in Stormwind City. It has a unique flavor and a mellow taste; you must go and have a taste."

Although they had already logged off and were now walking out of the shop doors, they still left with their desires unfulfilled.
