Chapter 590: Wang Wei

Chapter 590: Wang Wei

Upon hearing Wang Wei's words, Li Huo Wang’s heart gave a sudden jolt. What startled him even more was the expression on Wang Wei’s face—his eyes were wild with madness.

He couldn’t fathom what had happened to him over these past days that he had changed so drastically.

After digesting what Wang Wei had said, Li Huo Wang glanced at the entrance of the restroom. Seeing no reaction from the guards, he turned his head and spoke with a grave expression:

"Wang Wei, I’m cured! There’s nothing wrong with me! Everything you saw was just an illusion! All of it!"

"This matter ends here! Don’t come looking for me again! Otherwise, don’t blame me for being unkind!"

Li Huo Wang shoved Wang Wei away and turned to leave. He never expected that the one who would follow him like a shadow would be this man.

"I have surveillance footage of you conjuring gold out of thin air! Think carefully—if I upload this to the internet, what consequences will you face?"

Wang Wei’s words froze Li Huo Wang in place. When he turned around again, his face had become twisted with fury.

Slowly, Li Huo Wang approached him, pressing his lips close to his ear and speaking in a dangerously soft voice:

"Next time, think twice before you speak. Remember, I haven’t been discharged yet. Killing someone with a mental illness isn’t a crime!"

By the end, Li Huo Wang exhaled white breath, revealing his gleaming white teeth.

Wang Wei’s skin crawled. In that instant, the atmosphere around him had shifted completely—as if the man standing before him wasn’t human anymore but a beast that fed on flesh. This man truly meant to kill him!

Yet his excitement and exhilaration overpowered his fear. He forced himself to remain calm and said, “I don’t believe you can kill me. You’re not sick—you simply possess special abilities!”

Saying that, as though afraid Li Huo Wang might bite his head off, Wang Wei took a step back and continued, “I’m not trying to threaten you. I’ve come with sincerity. I want to work with you!”

"You're absolutely insane!" Li Huo Wang’s words were cut short by footsteps outside the door.

"Now isn’t the time to talk. We’ll chat when we get a chance."

"Little Li?" When Officer Liu entered the restroom, he found Li Huo Wang washing his hands, while the old man was cleaning the floor.

"Why the rush? Can’t you see I’ve got handcuffs on my hands? It’s normal to move slowly." Li Huo Wang said, shaking his wrists and not even glancing at Wang Wei before walking out.

Officer Liu looked puzzled at the elderly man sweeping the floor, then followed after him.

In the following days, Li Huo Wang didn’t return to that restroom, nor did Wang Wei seek him out. As if nothing had ever happened.

But Li Huo Wang knew better—the matter was far from over. Wang Wei would surely come back, and he needed to prepare a plan ahead of time.

A few days later, the psychiatric ward began to buzz with festive cheer. The patients' faces carried more smiles than usual.

There was no particular reason—it was simply because the New Year was approaching. The prison area improved its meals, offering much better food and drink than before.

Li Huo Wang heard from the guards that other labor camps celebrated even more joyfully during the holidays, staging performances where inmates with acting experience would perform on stage.

However, the White Tower Psychiatric Detention Center naturally lacked such talent. During the New Year, they could only watch the Spring Festival Gala and make dumplings—traditional activities.

Soon, the Eve of the Lunar New Year arrived. Sun Xiao Qin brought Li Huo Wang to make dumplings with a cheerful smile, laughing loudly at his crooked creations.

"Son, hurry up and make some more. Later, we’ll watch the Spring Festival Gala."

"Do we really need to make so many?" Li Huo Wang shook his handcuffed hands.

"Of course! We can’t just eat all of them ourselves. We should share with others in the facility—they’re all pitiful souls."

The dumplings were soon made and taken to the kitchen to be boiled. Since knives were present, Li Huo Wang, as a high-risk individual under close protection, was not allowed near the kitchen.

Meanwhile, he followed Officer Liu to the recreation area to wait for the New Year celebration event.

Perhaps due to the holiday, only one guard remained beside him.

"Brother Liu, you’re still working during the New Year? You guys have it tough," Li Huo Wang said as he sat down on a long bench.

Officer Liu seemed dispirited. He pulled a piece of milk candy from his pocket and popped it into his mouth. "Well, what else can you expect? My job is basically sitting in jail for money. I really want to quit. Who knows what kind of madness drove me to take this exam?"

"Don’t focus only on the negatives. Sure, you can’t go home for the holidays, but you do have overtime pay that others don’t."

At exactly eight o’clock, the Spring Festival Gala began. Sun Xiao Qin brought the dumplings to the dining area.

Patients and guards alike ate dumplings while complaining about the terrible show on TV. For the first time, the ward felt like it was truly celebrating the New Year.

But just then, that familiar sensation returned. Li Huo Wang kept quiet, merely standing up and telling Officer Liu next to him that the show wasn’t good enough and that he wanted to go to bed.

Everyone concentrated in the recreation area watching the gala, leaving the ward unusually silent.

Suddenly, Li Huo Wang noticed the red light on the corner camera went out, and the door opened silently.

"So you came?" Li Huo Wang asked, lying in bed with his eyes closed, as if expecting the arrival.

The figure stepped inside. Through the corridor lights, Li Huo Wang saw his face clearly—it was none other than Wang Wei, dressed in a blue-and-white striped patient uniform, clearly disguised.

"You’re quite impressive. Even in such a tight place, you can walk in freely. You really know your trade," Li Huo Wang slowly sat up. He knew this problem wouldn’t go away without resolution.

Wang Wei wasted no time, throwing a small stack of papers onto Li Huo Wang’s bed. "This is Yi Dong’s thesis. I know what you experienced there."

Li Huo Wang picked it up and flipped through it. Most of what he had said was included.

While Li Huo Wang read the paper, Wang Wei stepped closer, his expression filled with excitement as he stared at him intently.

"Since you can produce gold, then the longevity pills that extend life must also be possible."

"Show me one right now, in front of me!"

Li Huo Wang studied him for a long moment before finally speaking. "Back when you were treating me, I was kidnapped once by some people. They believed I could conjure gold too. Did you leak information about me to them?"

He remembered once being mysteriously abducted from the psychiatric hospital, spending time as a homeless lunatic beneath a bridge.

Now, thinking back, it was unlikely that just a few people could pull something like that off. The only possibility was that someone within the hospital had helped him from the inside.

Wang Wei’s current behavior made it hard for Li Huo Wang not to suspect him.
