Chapter 476: Diving
Chapter 476: The Descent
Hand in hand, Li Wei and Gusewei flew down into the depths of the Absolute Zero Abyss.
He continuously released his spiritual perception, remaining vigilant for the onset of any freezing torrents.
To achieve this, he had to endure the stinging bite that the ultra-low temperatures inflicted upon his consciousness.
Li Wei felt as though his very sea of consciousness was on the verge of being frozen solid by the chill.
Fortunately, a blazing sun hung within his spiritual sea, dispelling the freezing encroachment on his mind.
Sensing a sudden, drastic drop in temperature below, Li Wei hastily pulled Gusewei toward the adjacent cliff wall.
Without a word, Gusewei cast her magic instantly, causing ice crystals on the rock wall to extend and form a sealed igloo.
The two flew inside, and the entrance of the ice structure sealed completely shut.
The moment it closed, the howling of a freezing wind, resembling the wails of ghosts, echoed outside.
It was as if the lingering souls of creatures that died in the bitter wind had never dispersed, enduring its erosion day after day.
Just thinking about it made the chill feel as though it would freeze one's soul.
Even without dwelling on such thoughts, Gusewei felt her own soul turning to ice under the wind's influence.
The freezing wind of the Absolute Zero Abyss had achieved a level of harm that transcended into the realm of laws.
The two took refuge within the igloo until the roaring of the wind finally died down.
Just as Gusewei was about to open the igloo and head out, Li Wei held her back and said, "Wait a moment, let me restore some mana."
He brought out a magic stone and absorbed its energy to replenish his mana.
The magical energy within the Fire Spirit Bead necklace had to be saved for critical moments.
When there was no urgency, it was better to use magic stones for recovery, even if it was a bit slower.
Gusewei nodded, and she too began to meditate, drawing in the surrounding ice elements to restore her mana.
Once both of their mana reserves were completely full, they continued their descent.
After flying for a while, Gusewei asked, "How deep have we flown?"
Li Wei replied, "It should be well over ten thousand meters by now."
Gusewei looked down into the void and said, "But we still can't see the bottom of the Absolute Zero Abyss."
Li Wei searched his past memories for information regarding the planetary mantle.
He spoke, "It is still early. The earth is far deeper and thicker than we imagine; its depth is even more staggering than the height of the sky."
For a planet, ten thousand meters did not even scratch past the surface crust.
Though he did not know exactly how deep the Absolute Zero Abyss truly was.
Li Wei was already prepared to keep flying downward indefinitely.
According to the Snow Queen, even upon reaching the edge of the Absolute Zero Abyss, to arrive where the Secret Realm of Time lay.
One would still have to press onward without pause for two days and two nights.
Li Wei would not be surprised even if the Absolute Zero Abyss were several thousand kilometers deep.
Of course, if the location mentioned by the Snow Queen required traveling horizontally for a distance, then the depth might be significantly less.
Deep within the earth at ten thousand meters, the surroundings were completely pitch black, devoid of any light.
Even the auroras in the sky could not penetrate this far down.
It was truly a darkness where one could not see their own hand before their face.
Li Wei and Gusewei could only rely on their spiritual perception to determine each other's position.
After flying a bit longer, Gusewei asked out of curiosity, "Why is the range of your spiritual perception so vast?"
"Clearly my rank is higher than yours, yet my perception range is so much smaller. How do you do it?"
"I believe my spiritual power is considered strong even among fifth-tier mages."
Focusing on sensing the freezing currents, Li Wei answered casually, "Talent, I suppose."
Hearing this, Gusewei felt a slight pang of envy.
Previously, no one had ever been able to flaunt their talent in front of her.
Ever since she was rescued from a blizzard by the Snow Queen at the age of eight and brought to the Ice and Snow City, Gusewei had displayed an unparalleled talent for ice magic.
That was why she could become the Holy Maiden of the Ice and Snow City at such a young age.
Although the Snow Queen possessed a long lifespan and required no successor to her rule.
The Ice and Snow City still needed a Holy Maiden.
After all, it was impossible for her to attend to every matter personally. The Holy Maiden was akin to her avatar, handling things that were inconvenient for her to face directly.
This person had to be someone she trusted absolutely.
Raised and nurtured by the Snow Queen from childhood, Gusewei had earned that absolute trust to become the Holy Maiden.
Recalling the past, Gusewei could not help but lose herself in thought for a moment.
Suddenly, Li Wei's shout echoed in her ear, "Watch out!"
Gusewei was slightly bewildered, "Watch out for what?"
Very quickly, an extremely fast object entered the range of her spiritual perception.
The moment the object appeared, she had no time to make any reaction.
A loud thud resounded from her side, and an ice-blue frost magic shield materialized around her.
Crack!
Under the impact of that mysterious object, the fifth-tier frost magic shield developed noticeable cracks.
This meant its destructive power had already reached the fifth-tier level.
With a solemn gaze, Li Wei scanned the surroundings; though he could see nothing, he knew there were many more around them.
"Be careful, there is more than one."
Gusewei felt a lingering dread and asked fearfully, "What on earth is that?"
The mysterious object had slid away after striking Gusewei's frost shield, vanishing into the darkness.
The speed was too fast; Gusewei had absolutely no time to intercept it, nor could she see clearly what the attacker was.
Li Wei's spiritual perception range was larger, allowing him to barely discern the shape of the mysterious object.
However, because it could not be seen clearly, he did not know what it truly was either.
"It feels somewhat like a piece of ice," Li Wei said.
Gusewei glanced around, then looked upward and said, "Could it be fragments of ice blown down by the freezing currents?"
Li Wei shook his head and said, "Probably not. I feel like that thing is alive."
"Alive?" Gusewei revealed a look of astonishment.
Levi's eyes narrowed as he shouted, "It's coming again, from the right this time!"
He reached out and yanked Gutherwei, pulling her out of the mysterious object's trajectory.
Had it been an inanimate object, Gutherwei would have successfully evaded it by now.
Yet, within Levi's perception, the streak of ice curved sharply, turning to pursue Gutherwei.
Levi was just about to strike and intercept it for her.
In an instant, mysterious objects flooded his spiritual awareness from all directions, hurtling toward him.
"Damn it!"
Levi cursed silently.
He had witnessed the destructive power of these attackers; if he were struck by so many, he might lose his ability to fly and plunge into the abyss.
Gutherwei realized the gravity of the situation as well.
She hurriedly cried out, "Let me handle this!"
"Absolute Zero! Coffin of Frozen Ice!"
The frost staff in Gutherwei's hand erupted with a brilliant, icy-blue light.
A sixth-tier spell that normally required a lengthy incantation.
Was unleashed by Gutherwei in a mere fraction of a second.
The frozen coffin enveloped them both, sealing them safely within its impenetrable walls.
The sixth-tier Coffin of Frozen Ice was exponentially sturdier than the fourth-tier Crystal Ice Coffin.
The mysterious objects slammed into the structure, sending the frozen coffin rocking violently and hurtling through the air.
In the fleeting moment of impact between the objects and the coffin, Levi and Gutherwei finally saw what they were.
Gutherwei gasped in horror, "Ice souls!"
