Chapter 485: Absolute Defense

Chapter 485: Absolute Defense

"What is that?"

"A dragon!?"

"Why would a dragon appear here?"

The few people on the ground who were preparing to awaken the Ice Emperor were all stunned by the sight of the sacred dragon soaring through the sky.

This was even more shocking than seeing the Ice Emperor himself.

Seeing the Ice Emperor had merely brought unexpected awe at discovering such a colossal creature still existed in this world.

But seeing the sacred dragon brought shock beyond reason—an extinct species reappearing in the mortal realm.

One was an unprecedented surprise.

The other defied all logic.

The leader, cloaked entirely in black robes, was the first to react. From the moment he saw the sacred dragon until his response, less than five seconds passed.

He shouted loudly and urgently, "Stop gawking! Hurry up—they might be here to disrupt the ritual!"

The black-cloaked leader had long heard rumors that the Snow Queen of the Ice City intended to sabotage their plans.

She had ways of obtaining their top-secret schemes.

Naturally, he also had means to learn what she was planning.

They were sworn enemies.

Under the urgent urging of the black-cloaked leader, the others quickly snapped out of their stupor and hurriedly accelerated their work.

Levi stood behind Saint Xi; none of them could see him.

He looked down below, his pupils shifting into vertical slits of golden hue.

Those were dragon eyes.

With his enhanced vision, even across thousands of meters, Levi could clearly discern what the group was doing on the ground.

He observed the ritual formation patterns they had carved into the earth.

Without turning around, Levi said to Gusewei, "They're still preparing the awakening ceremony for the Ice Emperor. We still have time to stop them."

Gusewei replied with delight, "Ah, that's wonderful news."

Her gaze sharpened. Though she couldn't make out the figures clearly, her mind had already locked onto several targets.

Raising her Frost Staff, Gusewei declared, "In that case, shall we directly use a wide-range spell to destroy their ritual formation?"

Levi nodded and said, "Then I'll leave it to you."

There was almost no fire element present here. To unleash fire spells of equal potency as outside, he would expend far greater energy.

Conversely, Gusewei’s ice-based magic would gain further amplification within this place.

This was her domain.

Gusewei cast a remarkably powerful ice spell, one so potent she needed to chant incantations to assist its casting.

"Spirits of ancient ice wandering this world, heed my call..."

After a lengthy period of spell chanting, the Frost Staff in Gusewei's hand brimmed with tremendous power that even made Levi feel a chill run down his spine.

"Icebound World!"

This spell had reached near-forbidden levels.

When released under normal circumstances, it could instantly freeze an entire city, transforming every building, human, and object into ice sculptures.

Within the Abyss of Extreme Cold, the might of Icebound World intensified further.

Levi sensed that this force threatened to obliterate the entire icy cavern.

Icebound World did not simply freeze things—it froze living beings and then shattered their life essence, killing them utterly.

Even magical arrays would be frozen solid by this overwhelming force.

To prevent the awakening of the Ice Emperor, Gusewei gave everything she had.

This was already the highest-level spell she could cast.

Beyond this lay forbidden spells—realms inaccessible to sixth-tier mages.

Levi too could not cast true forbidden spells. He only managed to elevate his spells' effects to match those of forbidden ones through various methods.

"Absolute Defense!"

Buzz!

A beam of golden light emerged from within the icy cavern, forming a shield wall that blocked Gusewei’s Icebound World spell.

Even a near-forbidden level spell could not penetrate that golden barrier.

Upon witnessing the familiar golden radiance, Levi wore an expression of astonishment.

"Absolute Defense?"

He found it hard to believe. That was Rena's extraordinary trait—Absolute Defense.

The most formidable knightly supernatural ability.

Famed for being able to withstand attacks from forbidden spells.

"Rena?"

Levi stared in shock at the person who had invoked Absolute Defense.

As he got a clearer look at the man, Levi let out a breath of relief. It was a middle-aged man with a thick beard.

Not Rena.

Thankfully, it wasn’t Rena.

No—in fact, it never could have been Rena.

How strong was Rena? There was no way she could show up here.

Levi fixed his gaze upon the bearded middle-aged man who possessed the same supernatural trait as Rena.

Thoughts began swirling in his mind.

The man’s strength seemed not yet legendary, but certainly close.

Perhaps a peak sixth-tier knight, or possibly a semi-legendary knight.

Semi-legendary referred to practitioners who had stepped onto the path toward legend but hadn’t fully achieved it.

Such individuals were essentially legendary knights.

It was just a matter of time.

However, there were many semi-legendary professionals in the world who died before completing their journey to becoming true legends.

Those who failed to ascend remained bound by mortality, living no longer than a century or so.

If one couldn’t become a legend before their lifespan expired, they could only carry regrets into death, lying forevermore in their coffins.

Therefore, ordinary factions could never bear to send sub-legendary powerhouses out on missions.

They would only have them try every possible means to seize the time, finish the legendary path, and break through to the legend realm.

Settling down for a few decades in exchange for a legendary powerhouse presiding over them for four to five hundred years.

For any faction, this was an extremely worthwhile bargain.

Unless it was a supreme, top-tier power like the Church of the Holy Light.

Only they would not care too much about sub-legendary experts.

In the eyes of the Church of the Holy Light, a sub-legend was nothing at all, and even a legendary powerhouse amounted to little.

Only gods were worthy of their attention.

Levi was immensely curious about the bearded middle-aged man's background; what kind of faction did the man belong to?

That they would actually willingly dispatch a sub-legendary knight to such a dangerous place.

Guthrie saw that the Frozen World spell was actually blocked, unable to get anywhere near the ritual array.

Anxiously, she cried out, "Levi, what do we do?"

Levi also felt a massive headache; the strongest knightly transcendent trait, "Absolute Defense," was no mere empty boast.

Rumor had it that a sixth-tier knight using Absolute Defense could block the attack of a forbidden spell.

Of course, this was limited to protecting oneself.

It was impossible to completely block it off the way he had blocked the Frozen World spell.

But it was still enough to prove the immense power of the Absolute Defense transcendent trait.

Helplessly, Levi said, "There is no other way, I will just have to try it myself."

Relying solely on high-powered spells made it difficult to break through Absolute Defense.

Levi could only find a way to take another path.

To use the power of laws and see if it could shatter Absolute Defense.

The mid-level fire law was a power of laws, and legendary-grade holy power was also a power of laws.

In the palm of Levi's hand, a fireball completely constructed from holy power appeared.

The fireball shot toward the knight in the state of Absolute Defense.

In theory, legendary-grade holy power could ignore all defenses below the legendary realm.

He just did not know whether it would be effective against Absolute Defense.
