Chapter 99: Tier 1 Telekinesis
Chapter 99: First-Order Object Control
Levi deduced the technique of object control within his dreams.
After several failures, he successfully forged its rudimentary shape.
He cast the spell.
A pale blue glow of mana enveloped a nearby chair.
Using his spiritual force, Levi channeled his mana to lift the chair.
It felt somewhat strained.
Controllability plummeted drastically.
Next, Levi relentlessly deduced new magical models.
After dozens of attempts, he finally constructed a reasonably satisfying model.
A sphere of blue light cocooned a table.
Under Levi’s control, the table rose and began to dance through the air.
With a mere thought, the room rapidly expanded into an open clearing.
The airborne table accelerated continuously, moving faster and faster.
Whish!
The speed reached thirty meters per second.
This was already comparable to the velocity of a Fireball spell.
At its fastest, a Fireball could only travel at forty meters per second.
Bang!
The table smashed into the ground, instantly splintering to pieces.
Broken wooden planks flew in all directions.
The attack range, however, far exceeded the Fireball spell, reaching a staggering one hundred meters.
Ordinary archers could not shoot nearly that far.
Beyond a hundred meters lay the domain of extraordinary marksmen.
Though the attack range was vast, accuracy vanished past fifty meters, leaving hits to mere luck.
Levi cast the object control spell once more, attempting to control his own body.
The mana surged out, but the moment it enveloped his flesh, it returned to his core, rendering his body uncontrollable.
He felt a pang of disappointment.
He could only settle for the next best thing: soaring by manipulating an object.
With a thought, a large wooden plank materialized before him.
Levi cast the spell, directing the plank to float upward.
Then, he stepped onto it.
As his foot pressed down, the plank began to sink.
Levi hastily increased his mana output.
A moment later, the mana velocity stabilized, and the plank bore his weight.
Standing in the center, he cautiously commanded the plank to lift off.
The plank rose inch by inch, and he gradually breathed a sigh of relief.
"Flying by manipulating an object is a success."
"I can fly!"
He did not fly high, fearing a fall.
After drifting through the air for a while, he looked upward.
With a shift of his mind, the roof receded rapidly into the heights.
Levi guided the plank higher and higher, wanting to see if the dreamscape had an end.
Did the object control spell have an altitude limit?
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Whether the dream had an end, Levi did not know.
By the time he climbed to a hundred meters, half his mana was spent.
Continuing upward to two hundred meters, his mana was almost completely depleted.
Whish!
With his mana exhausted, the plank lost its power and plummeted straight down.
Levi’s body dropped half a meter before stopping mid-air.
This was his dream; here, he was omnipotent.
"The spell has no altitude limit; the only limitation is my own mana."
"As it stands, my entire reserve allows me to fly about two hundred meters up."
"No, it should be more than two hundred meters."
"Flying straight up requires constant mana output to accelerate against gravity, but flying horizontally allows for reduced output once momentum is gained, relying on inertia."
Levi’s mind stirred, his mana refilled completely, and a chair appeared behind him.
He sat upon it, using object control to guide the chair into flight.
This time, traveling a thousand meters consumed only about thirty percent of his mana.
Levi kept flying until his mana was spent and he fell.
Ultimately, he reached a conclusion.
During horizontal flight, his total mana could cover a maximum of three thousand five hundred meters.
"This is the distance when flying alone; if carrying others, the consumption will be greater, and the distance shorter."
"The magical model for object control can still be refined. Next, I must find ways to increase speed and reduce consumption."
Levi landed on the ground, and seeing the Shadow Servant, inspiration struck. "The spell cannot affect myself because the mana returns to my body the moment it touches skin."
"If something could block that return, wouldn’t it work on my own body?"
Levi thought of the Invisible Armor.
He activated the Invisible Armor and cast the object control spell once more.
This time, the Invisible Armor was dyed a brilliant blue.
A smile spread across Levi’s face. "It worked!"
"Once again, the Invisibility Armor—truly my salvation!"
He slowly lifted into the air, then accelerated.
Forward, backward, sharp turns, sudden stops, seven hundred and twenty degrees of spinning in midair, flying upside down...
Li Wei tested every possible maneuver of flight.
After experiencing it all, he realized that controlling his own body in flight was far freer and more convenient than riding upon an object.
At the very least, there was no fear of falling.
Touching down on the ground, the blue glow around Li Wei dissipated.
The soil beneath formed characters:
[Telekinesis (First Tier, Minor Mastery)] 106/10000
"Now I have offensive spells, defensive spells, control spells, and flight spells—all within my grasp."
A smile spread across Li Wei’s face.
By the standard of a traditional mage, the number of spells Li Wei had mastered was rather few.
Yet he valued practicality and efficiency above all.
Spells he didn’t need—he simply couldn’t be bothered to learn.
Take Ice Arrow, for instance—he hadn’t used it in over a month.
Shadow Touch, though, saw occasional use, mainly because he often needed to replenish Shadow Elements for his Shadow Servant.
Even so, its actual usage remained rare.
Night was only halfway through. Li Wei glanced at his Shadow Servant and decided—to take him into the dream of Hansha City.
It was time the servant grew stronger.
First tier, high level—no longer sufficient.
Li Wei intended to train him up to second tier.
"Shadow Servant, let's go."
Leaving the safehouse, they arrived at the mist-laden River of Dreams.
Li Wei looked up. The sky still hung with one hundred and eight stars—distant, unreachable.
He had once wondered what those stars might represent.
But they were too far away, beyond his reach.
He drew his gaze back, focusing on the present.
They reached the nightmare vortex of Hansha City.
Now shrunk to the size of a palm, it signaled the approaching end of the city’s nightmare dream.
Li Wei entered without delay.
Activating Great Dream Soaring Art, a powerful suction surged from the vortex beneath his feet.
In an instant, he was violently pulled into the dream.
Though the vortex appeared no larger than a hand, once inside, it expanded to the scale of an entire Hansha City.
Size lost meaning here.
Small wasn’t truly small; large wasn’t truly large.
Whoosh!
Li Wei materialized atop the city walls.
The walls had crumbled into ruins, parts already swallowed by the dream fog.
The mist was devouring the city.
Li Wei summoned his Shadow Servant and layered two Invisibility Armors upon him.
"Go. Hunt the nightmares freely."
Hearing this, the Shadow Servant trembled with excitement, transforming into a streak of black light that shot forward.
Boom!
He crashed into a house. When he emerged again, a nightmare core was clutched in his hand.
"Tonight, you may devour every nightmare core you obtain."
Without hesitation, the Shadow Servant swallowed the core whole.
Li Wei leapt from the wall, descending like a feather, drifting gently to the ground.
The nightmare was nearing its end. Within the dream, nightmares indulged in their final frenzy—demons dancing wildly.
No longer confined to orc forms, all manner of monsters now roamed free.
"Roooar!"
One nightmare transformed into a dragon over seven meters tall, spewing torrents of flame, harvesting the essence of nightmares.
