Chapter 712: Breakthrough
Chapter 712: Breakthrough
Upon hearing Xuan Pin’s words, Li Huo Wang finally understood why the other party had given him this item without reason.
“If we are allies, shouldn’t such things have been handed to me long ago? Why wait until now?” Li Huo Wang did not respond to the bait.
“You think this is a longevity pill? Is it something you can find anywhere? This thing isn’t ordinary. I spent a great deal of celestial treasures and earthly riches to forge it.”
“Stop lying. This thing is just an illusion—what exactly did you spend?”
As Li Huo Wang spoke, he turned and walked toward his carriage, with the revolving mirror beside him following in step.
“In this vast world, all things change endlessly. Who says illusions cannot be forged? To tell you the truth, in this field, you’re no match for me.”
Li Huo Wang never explicitly said whether he had put aside their past differences, but Xuan Pin didn’t need him to.
Noticing the shift in tone, he knew his goal had been achieved.
Though reluctant to admit it, the revolving mirror given by Xuan Pin truly helped Li Huo Wang greatly.
With this tool, he gained a macroscopic understanding of the entire battle situation, saving him considerable effort.
At least now they could follow the path previously cleared by the allied forces.
Though the road was littered with corpses, with only scavenging dogs and vultures remaining alive, they no longer feared sudden ambushes from enemies lurking nearby. This gave the others who had fought their way through the battlefield a brief respite.
Under these circumstances, their pace was swift, and they would likely reach the frontlines soon.
Others clearly noticed this too, as the evening meal that night was especially abundant.
In the night, Li Huo Wang, sleeping on the carriage, was awakened by Bai Ling Miao.
“There’s even fish,” Li Huo Wang said, looking at the bowl of wild vegetable fish soup, its creamy-white broth looking delicious.
“Mm, there are many rivers in Si Qi’s territory. These were all gathered by Sui Sui. She really knows how to swim—she catches the big ones specifically.”
Li Huo Wang sat at the front of the carriage, eating quickly while gazing at the battlefield filled with corpses in the distance.
Seeing the fish scales and blood crusts on Li Huo Wang’s face, Bai Ling Miao asked, “Senior Brother Li, what are your plans once we reach the frontlines?”
“We won’t go to the frontlines. That’s where soldiers belong, not us,” Li Huo Wang chewed on the fish head, swallowed it down.
“But where we’re going now…”
“Helping soldiers kill followers of the Sect of Law is useless. They don’t need one more or less. They have plenty of such people. In large-scale battles like this, the only thing we can do is one thing—decapitation.”
No matter how large the battle, there must be commanding generals. To hasten the collapse of the Sect of Law’s offensive, this might be the fastest route.
Now, the spies of the Supervisory Bureau were surely already infiltrated, and they would keep trying to gather reliable information.
The Sect of Law’s main base was still unknown, so the first priority was to quickly weaken their army.
“Is that so? But surely the Sect will send some powerful people to guard, right?”
“Yes. So now, I need to cultivate as quickly as possible to increase my chances.”
Li Huo Wang placed the empty bowl and chopsticks down, wiped his mouth, and walked into the dark forest beside him.
Bai Ling Miao didn’t follow. Over the past few days, her senior brother had always rested during the day and cultivated at night. She had grown accustomed to it.
In the woods, Li Huo Wang sat cross-legged on a smooth stone, holding his breath, shutting out all five senses.
When everything around him faded from his mind, Li Huo Wang silently pushed the divine light within him, wrapped in primordial qi, toward his chest wheel.
This process was extremely slow and arduous, like pushing a heavy boulder up a steep slope—each round harder than the last.
Gradually, Li Huo Wang forgot himself, forgot everything else. All he wanted was to push the primordial qi inside him toward the chest wheel.
It felt incredibly strange. He felt he was about to break through—but just barely short.
He wasn’t sure how much time passed before Li Huo Wang slowly opened his eyes. Noticing no changes in his body, he couldn’t help but sigh.
This kind of cultivation was something only he could do. Even if he wanted to ask a master, he wouldn’t know where to find one.
“Father, it’s dawn!” Upon hearing Li Sui’s voice, Li Huo Wang descended from the giant rock and walked toward him.
“Father, look what I caught! There’s so much food here!” Li Sui proudly held several vultures in both hands.
“The meat of these birds smells bad. Throw them away,” Li Huo Wang said, secretly glancing toward Bai Ling Miao.
“Sui Sui, later we’ll sneak off quietly. Don’t tell Auntie or Second Aunt.”
“Why? Auntie and Second Aunt are also very strong,” Li Sui looked confused.
“The next part may be complicated. I don’t want them involved.”
How many hidden assets did the Sect possess? How many allies did they secretly collude with in the various bureaus? Li Huo Wang didn’t know yet.
But one thing was certain—the Sect was now in grave danger, very dangerous.
Although Bai Ling Miao hadn’t died the last time, she had paid a heavy price, transforming into something neither human nor demon.
Knowing the next steps were perilous, Li Huo Wang certainly wouldn’t risk dragging Bai Ling Miao into further danger.
Even if she might blame him, it was better than dying.
“Oh, okay then,” Li Sui nodded.
“Shh, keep quiet. Even though Auntie can’t see, her ears are sharp,” Li Huo Wang said, grabbing Li Sui’s hand and leaving.
Just as he stepped into the woods, he suddenly heard someone calling from above, “Father? Were you talking to someone just now?”
Li Huo Wang froze upon hearing this. Looking up, he found that instead of the sky, the ground above him was inverted, hanging upside down.
And Li Sui was crouched on a branch above, ready to leap down and grab him.
Looking at the upside-down Li Sui above, Li Huo Wang then looked at the Li Sui in his hand.
He glanced at the trees above and then at the identical forest surrounding him.
The Li Sui beside him gripped his hand tighter, looking at him with confusion mixed with fear. “Father?”
In the next moment, she rapidly faded and vanished completely, leaving nothing behind.
Li Huo Wang looked at the upside-down Li Sui above, then at his empty right hand. Suddenly, he understood something.
With him at the center, the stones and trees around him began to dissolve rapidly. Li Huo Wang finally felt the pull downward, falling swiftly back onto the real ground.
Once he firmly stepped onto the water surface, he looked up again at the reflection of the ground above, which was quickly disappearing.
After a long while, when he came to his senses, Li Huo Wang realized his cultivation technique had somehow broken through his chest wheel.
