Chapter 474: Legendary Weapon: Frost Staff
Chapter 474: The Legendary Weapon, Staff of Frost
Reminded by the Ice Queen, Levi also realized that time was pressing.
They had to set out immediately.
After a moment of contemplation, Levi looked up at the Ice Queen and said, “I can help you stop those people from awakening the Ice Emperor, but it must be after I reach the Time Secret Realm.”
The Ice Queen nodded and replied, “Agreed.”
“In any case, if that group sees the Time Secret Realm, they’ll likely be unable to resist its temptation. They’d probably enter it first before attempting to awaken the Ice Emperor.”
Levi had one lingering doubt.
He asked, “According to what you’ve said, the Time Secret Realm can only be entered once every thirty-three years. Then why are there so few legends about it?”
The Ice Queen answered, “Firstly, very few know of its existence. Secondly, not everyone is capable of accurately pinpointing the moment when the midnight sun transitions into polar night.”
“I myself can only estimate that it will occur roughly seven days from now, but as for the precise timing—I don’t know either.”
“Others’ calculations are even more off—sometimes differing by days or months. More often than not, the legends of the Time Secret Realm have already been lost, with only fragments surviving among the snowfields.”
The reason the Ice Queen could calculate such an accurate timeframe was because she had lived through countless cycles of polar day and night, always keeping track of their rhythm.
Ordinary humans did not possess her longevity.
Two full cycles of polar night and day were equivalent to a human lifetime.
Realizing how urgent things were, Levi immediately began considering setting off toward the Abyss of Eternal Frost.
There wasn’t much time left.
“If that’s the case,” Levi said, “then I should prepare to head for the Abyss of Eternal Frost.”
The Ice Queen replied, “In that case, let Gusewei accompany you. In the Abyss, she can offer considerable assistance.”
“Huh?” Gusewei looked surprised.
She hadn’t expected the Ice Queen to send her along with Levi to the perilous Abyss of Eternal Frost.
That place had long been considered a forbidden death zone in the Far North Ice Fields, where no living being had ever dared to tread.
All native inhabitants of the Far North knew well the terror of the Abyss.
Even the frigid aura seeping from it rendered the surrounding thousand-mile region uninhabitable.
No creature could survive in such extreme cold for long.
Only the Ice Emperor, ruler of the Far North, might possibly endure the abyssal chill.
Hearing Gusewei’s startled exclamation, the Ice Queen turned her gaze toward her.
Gusewei met the queen’s icy-blue eyes and instinctively lowered her head. “Y-yes, Your Majesty.”
The Ice Queen smiled faintly. “You needn’t be too nervous. Take the Staff of Frost with you. With it in hand, you’ll be able to handle most dangers.”
“But… isn’t the Staff of Frost your symbol of authority? How could I…” Gusewei stammered in shock.
The Ice Queen chuckled. “As you yourself just said, it’s merely a symbol. Do you think I still require the Staff of Frost to maintain control over Vorldred City?”
“No, I didn’t mean that!” Gusewei quickly corrected herself.
“Enough. Just take the staff. Otherwise, I won’t feel at ease letting you go to such a dangerous place.”
“At least with the Staff of Frost, you’ll have some protection.”
Rising to her feet, the Ice Queen extended her right hand. A shimmering blue light materialized before her.
She reached out and grasped the glow. As it faded, a translucent blue crystal staff emerged—the legendary Staff of Frost.
The Ice Queen handed it to Gusewei, who accepted it with both hands.
“I swear I will not disappoint Your Majesty,” Gusewei declared solemnly while holding the staff.
The Ice Queen shook her head gently. “No. What I hope for most is that you prioritize your own safety and return safely.”
Gusewei tightened her grip on the Staff of Frost and looked up at the queen, seeing genuine concern reflected in her usually emotionless eyes for the first time.
Sensing the heavy atmosphere, Levi stepped forward with a smile. “Don’t worry. With me around, we’ll definitely make it back safe and sound.”
Gusewei cast him a sidelong glance, thinking he clearly underestimated the perils of the Abyss of Eternal Frost to speak so confidently.
Even the Ice Queen herself would face risks venturing there.
Still, she said nothing more. All she could do was hold tightly to the Staff of Frost.
This was the Ice Queen’s legendary weapon—a staff imbued with immense power that greatly amplified ice-based spells.
Its strength was especially overwhelming within the Far North Ice Fields and the Abyss itself, far surpassing ordinary legendary weapons.
With the Staff of Frost in hand, Gusewei could stand against even legendary beings.
Her current situation somewhat resembled that of the elder of fire elementals—both relied heavily on external artifacts to wield near-legendary strength.
Yet compared to the fire elemental elder, Gusewei’s personal abilities remained significantly weaker.
Levi and Gusewei left the palace and encountered Guze outside.
Looking at Guze, Levi felt a pang of melancholy and helplessness—they had barely reunited before having to part again.
However, if this journey went smoothly, upon returning to the Ice City, he could spend however long he wished with Guze.
Monis watched in astonishment as Gusewei walked out carrying the Staff of Frost.
“Is that… the Staff of Frost?”
She couldn’t quite believe her eyes.
Gusewei nodded gravely. “Her Majesty has entrusted me with an important mission. I’ll be away for some time. Please look after things here, Monis.”
Upon hearing this, Monis composed herself and simply nodded. “Understood.”
Since neither Gusewei nor the Ice Queen disclosed the details of the mission, Monis didn’t pry further.
Such discretion was expected of a subordinate.
Guze stared curiously at Gusewei, then glanced at Levi, guessing the truth.
He asked, “Are you two going together?”
Levi nodded. “Yes. Teacher, forgive me—we’ve only just met again, yet we must part once more.”
Suppressing his inner reluctance and worry, Guze smiled warmly. “Don’t say that. Go ahead without hesitation. When you return, we’ll talk properly about everything you’ve experienced since my departure.”
Levi grinned. “Of course. We will.”
Then turning to Gusewei, he added, “Please take good care of my little sister.”
“Brother! What are you talking about? Clearly, I’m the stronger one—it should be me taking care of *him*,” Gusewei protested indignantly.
Guze knew better than anyone that Levi’s true strength couldn’t be judged by appearances alone.
Smiling knowingly at Gusewei, he said, “Right, right. Then please do take good care of my student.”
"Humph, I will keep a close eye on him,"
Gusewei glanced at Levi and said.
