Chapter 557: . Impressive, just a little more and you could have killed me
Book 557. Truly formidable—just a hair’s breadth away from killing me.
Under Sara’s tempestuous, overwhelming assault of terror, Saaya had long since lost the ability to speak.
He could only widen his eyes—
watching, helplessly, as a grotesque vortex, warping the void itself, rapidly expanded before him, swelling larger and larger.
Saaya’s vision swiftly darkened, swallowed whole by blackness.
His body remained paralyzed; his mind dissolved into blank silence.
Am I truly…
going to die?
Just as Saaya braced himself for death’s arrival—
a streak of brilliant light suddenly tore through the darkness before him.
*Boom—!*
A colossal, muffled detonation reverberated across the entire battlefield.
With that sound, a figure staggered backward—*clack, clack, clack*—each step scattering torrents of white-golden sparks, flecked with traces of blood.
Terrifying force struck his form, rippling outward in invisible concentric waves.
The void behind him crumpled in layered folds—proof of the strike’s sheer, devastating power.
Saaya stood rooted in place, staring at the towering silhouette now shielding him, his expression dazed.
“Lu… Lu Saint…”
“Damn it!”
In the distance, the two Guides’ faces twisted in alarm. They lunged forward to assist—but it was already too late.
At last, the white-golden figure halted his retreat.
All could now see him clearly:
Still the same handsome young man, his entire form enveloped in resplendent, radiant white-gold light.
Yet now he appeared battered, disheveled.
His chest bore a massive, hideous cavity—a gaping wound where flesh curled inward, revealing glimpses of bone and viscera beneath.
The youth lowered his head, fixated on the ruin in his own chest, utterly motionless.
His aura had dimmed drastically; his injuries were grievous.
“Lu Saint!!”
Below, Saaya’s eyes instantly flooded with tears.
Clutching the shattered remains of Tangtun tightly against his chest, he wept uncontrollably—anguish and guilt consuming his heart entirely, leaving him helpless, trembling like a child.
The two Guides and the remaining human martial artists, witnessing Lu Saint’s state, felt their hearts plummet.
Their gazes overflowed with dread; beneath it all churned a tide of despair, surging ever closer, ready to drown them anew.
Meanwhile, among the beast-folk faction—
One by one, the traitorous martial artists erupted in ecstatic joy, freed entirely from fear, nearly leaping to celebrate.
“Hahahaha—!”
Sara roared with laughter, his face triumphant, cruel, and exultant.
Flames of orange fire surged around him, rising in relentless waves.
“Dodge? Weren’t you always so quick to evade? Why not this time?”
“In my presence, you’re nothing but a slippery clown—
and with one strike, I can cripple you beyond repair!”
Sara spoke in icy tones, his expression laced with contempt, as if utterly scornful of Lu Saint’s performance.
“To sacrifice your greatest advantage—for a mere Level Eleven? To throw away your life so foolishly… truly an idiot.”
“I believe even the great Lord of Oblivion Himself… would disdain a believer as stupid as you.”
Sara’s final words seemed spoken more to himself—and for a fleeting instant, jealousy flickered in his eyes, sharp and brief.
“It’s over.”
With that, Sara raised his hand once more.
Five trails of rule-bound galaxies reappeared around him.
Rule-energy stirred vast cosmic forces; an unprecedented pressure coalesced, terrifying and absolute.
This strike—
Sara intended total annihilation.
“Damn you! You bastard—have the guts to come at *me* instead!”
Below, Saaya, eyes blazing red, charged recklessly upward, throwing himself before Lu Saint—
only to be casually swatted aside by Sara’s sweep.
Sara had no intention of killing him yet—he wanted Saaya to witness what came next.
Far off, the two Guides exchanged a glance, their expressions hardening.
They seemed to have reached a decision—cold, resolute—and prepared to act.
Just as Sara’s final, lethal blow was about to descend, and the Guides readied themselves to seize the moment—
a sudden, soft cough broke the suffocating stillness.
*…Cough, cough, cough…*
Lu Saint, who had been staring silently at the gaping wound in his chest, now lifted his voice—and slowly raised his head.
“Truly worthy of one who has mastered and fused five fundamental rules…”
He gently traced the ragged edge of the hole in his chest, his expression contemplative, each word uttered softly, deliberately:
“How extraordinary.
Just a hair’s breadth away…
you almost killed me.”
Having spoken, Lu Sheng’s expression once again settled into serene calm.
And the grotesque, horrifying wound upon his chest—within the span of a few blinks—burst forth with frenzied granulation tissue, sealing itself with astonishing speed.
In the blink of an eye, it healed completely, even the waning aura surrounding him surging back to full vigor, as though he had never borne injury at all.
This uncanny display left every onlooker stunned into silence.
Even Sara’s gaze faltered, her voice escaping unbidden:
“How is this possible?!”
