Chapter 407: 'Algorithm' Optimization, Desire for Knowledge

After a playful scuffle, the two set aside the topic. Once the initial excitement of encountering a relic from another world had faded, Avia began to contemplate the practical application of the machine.

"If we could study its internal structure, could we use similar techniques to replicate it in the material world?"

The girl pried open the laptop Wang Yu had duplicated, her eyes fixed on the dense maze of circuit boards, lost in thought.

"I don't think so. I’ve tried using Void energy to reconstruct such things in the material world, but it’s impossible. Some of the materials simply don't exist here, or perhaps the underlying rules of this world differ from those of my own in ways I haven't yet grasped. Replication is out of reach for now."

Wang Yu shook his head. He had considered this, but the physical laws of this world were fundamentally different from Earth's. He hadn't noticed when he was weak, but as his strength and experience grew, he realized that applying Earth’s technology here was a fool’s errand.

"Indeed. Besides, the Sky Mechanical City actually possesses similar artifacts—the magic circles in their libraries, for instance. While they may lack the efficiency of a computer, they can achieve the same functions if the complexity is sufficient."

Avia rested her chin on her fist, musing. It seemed this computer, while intellectually invaluable for understanding Earth, was limited in its direct utility, as it could only function within the Void.

"Still, this is a great start. Being able to bring the computer out means I am drawing closer to the secrets of this door. Perhaps this gateway truly leads to another world."

Patting the wooden door, Wang Yu felt a surge of optimism. Though the dream of turning the computer into a practical tool had stalled, he felt he had found the path forward.

He would continue to reinforce the door until a significant change occurred; perhaps then, he would learn more.

"No... I actually think this computer has pointed us toward a rather meaningful direction."

Not entirely agreeing with Wang Yu, Avia turned her gaze toward the Lady of the Night and the Tree of the Night Sky in the distance, her voice tinged with excitement.

Much like the theories Wang Yu had mentioned before, if this world were willing to invest the effort, it could likely develop technology similar to computers. However, why bother with air conditioning when you have Frostbolts and Fireballs? There was no need to delve into such things when magic could achieve the same ends.

Earth had developed its technological tree largely because individual human potential was capped, forcing humanity to look outward toward weapons and inward toward the microscopic precision of electronics.

"So, what we can truly utilize is the superior 'algorithm' within this computer to 'optimize' the Lady of the Night, freeing up more 'computing power'."

A spark flickered in Avia’s eyes.

The idea that had been taking shape in her mind was now crystallizing. She had found the answer to how they could put Wang Yu’s computer to use.

Having played with "Void programming" alongside the Lady of the Night and helped her optimize the Tree of the Night Sky, Avia had figured out a way to further develop the goddess.

"You mean, even if we can't fully deconstruct the computer's principles, we can integrate its structures into the Tree of the Night Sky to replace the calculations that currently rely entirely on the Void?"

Wang Yu was half-understanding. As a native of Earth, he could grasp the concept. He watched the Lady of the Night, who was currently playing cards on her own laptop and doing a terrible job of it. If this worked, her power would likely increase—though he wondered if she would become any "smarter."

In simple terms, the Tree of the Night Sky served as the Lady of the Night’s "external brain," or perhaps her "subconscious." She only needed to set simple parameters, and the tree would handle the rest.

Connecting believers, distributing power, distinguishing the strength of faith—all these functions were performed by the tree, relying on the Void as an omnipotent processing machine.

Avia’s previous optimization had allowed the tree to perform these tasks with less Void energy, essentially installing a primitive "algorithm." Now, with the computer...

"Hmm... although a single computer's processing power might not compare to the Tree of the Night Sky—given the heat, latency, and various bugs that limit its potential..."

Wang Yu nodded thoughtfully. He increasingly viewed the Lady of the Night as a mere mascot; the tree did all the work while she spent her days slacking off.

"But this is the Void!"

Avia spread her arms with a radiant smile, finishing his thought.

Yes, this was the Void. The limitations of the computer vanished here. By consuming a negligible amount of Void energy, they could bypass the machine's flaws. Freed from physical constraints, its performance would skyrocket. This would undoubtedly be the most powerful "algorithm" they had ever commanded!

"So, shall we try it?"

Wang Yu felt a sudden urge to act. The insane idea of replacing the functions of the Tree of the Night Sky with a few "hacked" computers was incredibly alluring.

"The general approach is no different from the previous optimization. Lady Darkness herself has an incredible capacity for compatibility, so we really just need to connect the computer to the Tree of the Night Sky."

The girl was the expert here; her previous work had given her ample experience. Wang Yu couldn't help but marvel at how convenient the Void truly was.

"What is your opinion?"

Wang Yu approached the Lady of the Night, who was still preoccupied with her cards, to seek her input.

"I'll listen to you two."

Her answer was simple, whether born of her obsession with the game or her absolute trust in Wang Yu and Avia.

"Alright, let's give it a go."

They brought the computer to the Tree of the Night Sky. Avia wiped the drive clean, leaving only the essential system software, and merged it into the tree.

"Is this... going to be alright?"

Wang Yu watched in concern as the massive tree began to flicker like a malfunctioning old television screen. He knew little of the Void or deities and didn't understand what was happening.

"It’s fine. The tree is simply changing its form. It is composed entirely of the Lady of the Night’s power."

"The reason it was so massive was that it required that much power to maintain connections with so many believers. It seems it no longer needs such a grand stature to perform those tasks."

Avia remained calm; the change was exactly as she had predicted. Besides, watching Wang Yu panic was one of her small pleasures.

A vast tide of pure blackness receded from the tree—the Lady of the Night’s power—flowing outward to submerge into her "Divine Kingdom."

The sheer volume of dissipated energy was staggering, completely engulfing Avia and Wang Yu. Yet, the darkness was gentle toward them; even while fully immersed, they could see their surroundings clearly.

"Good grief, it’s shrunk quite a bit."

When the energy released from the tree had finished dissipating, the new form of the Tree of the Night Sky was revealed. It bore no resemblance to the towering giant it had once been.

A computer, identical in appearance to Wang Yu’s laptop, sat there. Comically, it was connected to a massive tower case the size of a person, and the whole setup hummed with a low vibration.

It wasn't small by computer standards—it was oversized—but compared to the original tree, it was minuscule. Yet, this single machine now performed all the duties of the former giant.

The computer was far from simple; it was a "supercomputer" optimized by the Void, incapable of overheating, breaking, lagging, or malfunctioning.

"Let me see."

Wang Yu stepped forward, conjured a table and two chairs, and picked up the mouse to test the new system. He still held administrative rights.

The screen lit up, and data cascaded down in a blur too fast for him to follow. He could only discern that it related to believers, the "Midnight Library," and the "Void Chatroom."

Abandoning the clumsy manual control, Wang Yu opted for the mental interface he was used to. It felt no different.

The scrolling text stopped, displaying the prayers and communications of the believers. Wang Yu could see Elliot discussing trade goods with another merchant leader.

"What about this?"

Avia leaned in and clicked the mouse. The screen changed to a neat, indexed catalog of all the books in the Midnight Library. If she wished, she could access any of them instantly.

"The combination of two worlds' technologies, realized in a place like this."

Watching Avia navigate the new system, Wang Yu felt a sense of awe. The fusion of this world's supernatural power with Earth's logic was truly extraordinary.

"But this only makes me more curious about what the Void really is, and how the gods—who are so closely linked to it—came to be, and how they wield such power."

Beyond his surprise, his desire to uncover the truth behind this "all-too-convenient" existence grew stronger than ever.
