Chapter 704: New Helper

Chapter 704: A New Ally

Such a major incident drew the attention of the orderlies quickly, who rushed over to haul the unconscious Wang Wei away. Several supervisors hurriedly stepped forward to offer their apologies.

That a patient in the ward had attempted to kill someone—especially with such near success—was a severe blow to the reputation of a psychiatric hospital. If word got out, it would be devastating.

Especially when they learned of Li Huowang’s identity, their expressions grew increasingly tense.

Though nearly killed, Li Huowang didn’t demand compensation. He simply made one request: he wanted to meet with Wang Wei. The man was key.

After all this time of hiding in the shadows, they had finally sent someone out again. Since they had encountered him now, it would be a waste not to extract useful information from Wang Wei.

For such a modest request, the staff of the Sixth People’s Hospital readily agreed. Compared to the negative publicity that could result from this incident, it was hardly worth mentioning.

Soon, Li Huowang was reunited with Wang Wei—but now, the man was bound in restraints and wore a mouth guard to prevent biting.

“There’s nothing wrong,” Li Huowang said to the nearby hospital personnel. “You can all leave. I’d like to speak with this man alone.”

The man stood at a crossroads. After all, this person had just tried to kill him.

But soon, they found a compromise. Wang Wei was locked in an isolation room, while Li Huowang spoke through the iron bars.

Even if everyone else left, there would be no risk of another incident.

Once everyone had gone, Li Huowang turned his gaze back to Wang Wei. Compared to before, the man looked even more deranged—his eyes wide open, drool seeping from his mouth, his pupils filled with bloodshot fury.

“You’re one of them?” Li Huowang asked.

Wang Wei stared at him with unblinking intensity but said nothing.

“What do you want? I’d like to talk to you,” Li Huowang said.

It was a test. No matter what their true intentions were, Li Huowang first needed to know who they were.

Whether it was the Leo alien from Qian Fu’s mouth or the group that preyed on psychic abilities described by Chen Hongyu, he found both explanations hard to believe.

He wanted to see them for himself, to identify them with his own eyes.

Of course, Li Huowang had already activated the recording function on his phone. If anything important came up, he could call the police and let others help him eliminate them.

In response to Li Huowang’s questions, Wang Wei only stared at him silently, offering no reply.

“It’s useless,” Qian Fu said from beside him. His usual madness had vanished. “He’s just a pawn. You won’t get anything from him.”

“The Leo aliens are masters of manipulation. Some of us have also been deceived, becoming puppets in their hands, controlled entirely by them.”

“If you’re hoping to gain any clues from him, it’s not going to work.”

Still, Li Huowang refused to give up. “Wang Wei, do you remember me? You treated me before. What happened after we parted? Tell me, maybe I can help you.”

“I didn’t catch what you said earlier. Can you repeat it?”

“You tried to kill me. I don’t hate you. I just want to know why.”

Li Huowang asked many questions, even sharing some of his past with Wang Wei, trying to coax a response. But no matter what he said, Wang Wei remained silent, as if truly transformed into a puppet as Qian Fu had claimed.

Compared to a few years ago, their roles had reversed—how ironic that was.

After asking so much, seeing no reaction at all, Li Huowang could only leave for now.

But just as he took two steps away, Wang Wei finally spoke. “Li Huowang, you're running away.”

Li Huowang stopped and slowly turned around. “What did you say?”

“I said you’ve always been running. You know it. You’ve always known it. You can connect to that world—you have unlimited potential!”

Li Huowang’s pupils contracted slightly. “So that’s their goal? They think I can get something from my hallucinations, so they want to kidnap me?”

He suddenly remembered something. “So the things that happened on the ship weren’t hallucinations? There really is a group like this?”

Chen Hongyu chimed in. “See? I told you they were after our psychic powers. You definitely have one too. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have come looking for you.”

“Miss Chen, let me ask him first.” With that, Li Huowang turned back to Wang Wei. “Answer me—was everything I just said true?”

Wang Wei didn’t respond. Instead, he shot back a question. “First, answer mine. When did you stop believing these possibilities? Is that your real thought—or did someone make you think that way?”

His voice rose again. “Yi Donglai! Don’t trust Yi Donglai! He’s actually hurting you!”

“Think about it! What has Yi Donglai done for you? If he truly cared, why wasn’t he there when you ran into trouble?”

“That world exists! Yi Donglai hurt you! He sealed your power! You must remember—it’s time to become whole again!”

“You’re not sick! You’re gifted! You don’t need treatment! You don’t need medicine!”

“No!” Qian Fu quickly grabbed Li Huowang’s ears. “Don’t listen to him! The Leo alien is manipulating you. Don’t stop, don’t look, don’t think!”

And so, Li Huowang was forcibly dragged out. In truth, even without Qian Fu’s help, Li Huowang would have left on his own. Wang Wei held no valuable information.

“Alright, stop covering my ears. My will isn’t that fragile. Just because someone says something, it doesn’t shake me,” Li Huowang said, shaking off Qian Fu’s hands in the hospital lobby.

He glanced at Chen Hongyu and asked, “What are your plans next?”

“You’re asking me? Didn’t you guys bring me out of retirement? Why are you asking me about this?” Chen Hongyu began picking her nose.

“Besides her, shouldn’t we get someone else?” Li Huowang asked Qian Fu.

Regardless, considering how she had saved his life just now, it was better to cultivate more allies—even if they were mentally ill.

“Yeah, let’s go find Qingwang.”

“Qingwang?” Li Huowang frowned. “Sounds like a guy’s name. Is he also mentally ill?”

“No, he’s not. He’s a student.”

“A student? A student?” Li Huowang almost thought he’d misheard. Qian Fu’s helper was actually a normal person?

“No, Qingwang is a graduate student,” Chen Hongyu added.
